Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Union County

Union County, NJ

Summit packs 6 square miles with distinct residential pockets, each with its own stairlift profile. The Northside section — stately Colonials on Hillcrest and Woodland Avenues — has wide oak treads but steep rises, perfect for a straight rail. Oak Ridge, under a mile from the Midtown Direct station, holds split-levels and expanded Capes where a curved rail handles the mid-stair landing. The Memorial Field neighborhood blends pre-war two-stories with newer construction; stone and tile entryways are common here. Over in the Prospect Street Historic District, century-old Victorians have narrow, winding staircases that need a custom-curved rail measured on site. Briant Park homes near the Watchung Reservation often have outdoor porch entries — an outdoor lift holds up to Summit's wet winters.

Straight

Straight Rail on Hardwood in a North Summit Historic Colonial

North Summit Historic, NJ Installed March 2026

Mrs. Harrington, 78, had stopped climbing the oak staircase in her 1928 Colonial on Hillcrest Avenue — two falls in six months. Luis bolted a 14-foot straight rail directly into the hardwood treads. The cream seat parks at the bottom landing, tucked beside the newel post. No drywall touched, no repainting needed. She was upstairs in her bedroom that evening.

Curved Rail at the Upper Landing in a Prospect Street Victorian

Prospect Street Historic District, NJ Installed February 2026

A 1910 Queen Anne Victorian with a staircase bending 90° at the mid-stair landing, then 90° again before the top floor. Laser-measured in one hour. The custom-curved rail wraps around the half-wall and parks the brown seat at the upper landing. A chandelier hangs above — untouched. The Chens' mother now goes from first floor to bedroom without assistance.

Memorial Field, NJ Installed April 2026

A 1960s split-level with stone-tread stairs leading from the living room to the kitchen level. The staircase is tight — 32 inches wide — with a wooden sideboard at the base. Luis mounted a 12-foot rail on the tread side, keeping the sideboard untouched. The brown seat parks neatly at the bottom. Mr. O'Brien now gets to the kitchen in 28 seconds.

A Briant Park home with six stone steps from the driveway to the front porch — impassable for Mrs. Kowalski after her hip replacement. Luis installed an IP55-sealed outdoor unit on the rough stone paving. Cream seat, marine-grade aluminum rail, key-lock operation. Snow from the February 2026 nor'easter cleared off with a broom. She rides up every morning.

Common Questions

Everything Summit Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Summit?

A straight stairlift in Summit starts at $2,800 installed. That covers the rail, seat, DC motor, battery backup, and a 5-year warranty. Summit homes — especially Colonials and raised ranches — typically need 12 to 16 feet of rail. If your staircase has hardwood treads (common in Northside and Oak Ridge homes), the rail bolts directly into them with no drywall work. Financing runs $79/month through a third-party lender.

How much is a curved stairlift for a Summit Victorian?

Curved stairlifts in Summit start at $9,000. The price varies with the number of turns — a Prospect Street Historic District Victorian with three landings and a 180° bend costs more than a Memorial Field split-level with one 90° turn at the mid-stair landing. Every curved rail is custom-bent after a 1-hour laser measurement in your home. There is no stock curved rail. The $9,000 covers the rail, powered swivel seat, battery backup, and 5-year warranty.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs in Summit?

No. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts — they classify them as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in New Jersey may offer a small home-safety benefit, but the real funding paths for Summit residents are the VA HISA grant ($6,800 for service-connected veterans), New Jersey MLTSS (up to $5,000/year through Medicaid), and the JACC program's Environmental Accessibility Adaptations for seniors 60+.

Are outdoor stairlifts in Summit worth the cost with NJ winters?

Outdoor stairlifts in Summit start at $4,000 — and yes, they're worth it if you enter through a porch or exterior stoop. The IP55-rated unit handles Summit's freezing rain, nor'easter snow, and humid summers without seizing. We install them on Briant Park porch entries and Hidden Valley homes with exterior stair access. The rail and seat are marine-grade aluminum with a waterproof cover, and the key lock prevents unauthorized use. Snow and ice clear off with a broom — no special maintenance.

A word from Luis

Summit is one of my favorite towns to work in — I've installed lifts in Northside Colonials with oak treads, Memorial Field split-levels, and Prospect Street Victorians where the staircase makes three turns before it hits the second floor. The housing stock here is stunning, but those pre-war staircases were not built with aging in place in mind. Most Summit installs I do are on stairs 36 inches wide or less, with hardwood treads that need a rail bolted straight into them.

The good news: a battery-backed DC motor runs the lift for about 6 hours after a nor'easter knocks out the power — we saw that tested in the February 2026 storm. If your mom lives in one of those Oak Ridge or Canoe Brook homes near the golf course, an outdoor unit at the porch entry can get her in the front door without a single step.

— Luis Ramírez, Summit
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Summit's architectural legacy — from 1890s Queen Anne Victorians on Prospect Street to mid-century split-levels near Memorial Field — means no two staircases are alike. But every stairlift we install here gets the same treatment: a 1-hour site measurement, rail bolted to the treads (not the drywall), and a DC motor with battery backup that holds through the next nor'easter. Most jobs wrap in 3 to 4 hours.

If you're weighing options at 11pm after a close call on the stairs, call Luis directly. He knows Summit's housing stock cold — he can look at three photos of your staircase and tell you whether it's a straight or curved job, what it'll cost, and which funding route makes sense. Reach him at (908) 555-0142 or [email protected].
