Stairlift Service Across Essex County

Essex County, NJ

Millburn Township splits into two distinct halves. Wyoming and South Mountain have the older housing stock — 1920s colonials and Victorians with the kind of center-hall staircases where a straight rail bolts right to the treads. In Short Hills, the neighborhoods shift: Deerfield-Crossroads and Glenwood are full of 1960s split-levels and expanded ranches where the stairs often make tight turns. Brookhaven and White Oak Ridge lean toward larger estates with wide curved staircases — the kind where laser measurement saves you a return visit. Old Short Hills Estates has the township's earliest homes, many with steep, narrow service stairs where a compact straight rail is the only thing that fits.

Straight

Wyoming Colonial — Straight Rail on Hardwood Treads

Wyoming, NJ Installed February 2026

1928 center-hall colonial off Sagamore Road. Dark oak treads, white risers, original banister. The staircase runs a straight 14-foot flight from the foyer to the second-floor landing. Mrs. Callahan, 78, had stopped using the upstairs bathroom after a hip replacement. The straight rail bolts directly to the oak treads — no wall drilling, no damage to the original woodwork. Seat parks at the bottom, folds up when not in use.

Deerfield-Crossroads Estate — Curved Rail at Upper Landing

Deerfield-Crossroads, NJ Installed March 2026

Custom-built 1990s estate with a grand curved staircase off the foyer. Chandelier overhead, wide treads, a 90-degree turn at the upper landing that sweeps around a half-wall. The Rosens wanted the lift on the main stair — moving the bedroom downstairs wasn't an option with four bedrooms all on the second floor. Luis laser-measured the full curve in about an hour.

South Mountain Cottage — Compact Straight Rail on Stone Treads

South Mountain, NJ Installed January 2026

Small 1940s cottage near South Mountain Reservation, stone-and-tile treads leading up from a compact living room. A wooden sideboard sits at the base of the stairs — the lift parks beside it, brown seat tucking in neatly. Mrs. Bennett, 82, lives alone and the upstairs bedroom was becoming unreachable. The straight rail gunmetal finish works with the stone treads and the cottage's modest proportions.

Outdoor

Brookhaven Porch Entry — Weather-Sealed Outdoor Lift

Brookhaven, NJ Installed April 2026

Raised porch entry on a 1970s Brookhaven colonial, rough stone pavers leading up five steps to the front door. The Nakamuras' father moved in and could not manage the porch steps in winter. Luis mounted the weather-sealed outdoor rail directly to the stone — stainless steel brackets, IP55-rated motor housing, marine-grade wiring.

Glenwood Split-Level — Carpeted Stair, Brown Seat

Glenwood, NJ Installed December 2025

1970s split-level in Glenwood with beige carpeted treads running from the family room up to the bedroom level. Tiled floor at the base. The O'Briens chose the brown seat — the upholstery tone sits close to the carpet color so the lift blends instead of standing out. Standard straight rail, 13 feet, bolted through the carpet and pad into the wood sub-treads beneath. Mrs.

Platform Lift

White Oak Ridge Estate — Indoor Wheelchair Platform Lift

White Oak Ridge, NJ Installed March 2026

Two-story estate home in White Oak Ridge where Mr. Hoffman uses a wheelchair full-time after a spinal injury. The indoor inclined platform lift carries the chair up a 17-foot straight flight — flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail. The platform folds up against the wall when not in use, keeping the hallway passable. The Hoffmans looked at a residential elevator first — $30,000 minimum and six weeks of construction.

Common Questions

Everything Millburn Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Millburn?

A straight stairlift in Millburn starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts — common in Short Hills split-levels and estate homes — start at $9,000 because the rail is custom-bent to your exact stair geometry. Outdoor units for porch or deck access start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 pounds start at $5,050. All prices include the site measurement, installation, and a 5-year warranty. No hidden fees — Luis gives you the number at the assessment and it does not change.

Are there any Millburn-specific fees or permit costs?

Millburn Township does not require a building permit for a stairlift installation — it's classified as a temporary home modification, not a structural change. There's no township inspection afterward. The only thing to check is if your HOA has rules about visible exterior equipment, which matters for outdoor lifts in neighborhoods like Brookhaven or White Oak Ridge with formal landscaping covenants. Luis can check your HOA docs during the site visit and tell you if anything needs sign-off.

How does financing work for a Millburn stairlift?

Financing starts at $79 a month through a third-party provider. The application takes about ten minutes online, and you get an answer the same day. Most Millburn homeowners qualify. If you're a veteran using the HISA grant, the VA pays the provider directly — meaning you're never out-of-pocket for the full amount and waiting for reimbursement. The financing and the grant can work together if your total is above the $6,800 HISA cap.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home in Millburn?

Yes — by a wide margin. The median home price in Millburn-Short Hills is over $2.4 million, and selling a multi-story colonial to buy a ranch in the same school district is rarely practical. A $2,800 straight stairlift, or even a $9,000 curved unit, costs less than one month of a Millburn mortgage payment. Most families we work with keep the house they've lived in for 20 or 30 years and add the lift.

A word from Luis

Millburn and Short Hills are two different beasts for stairlift work. In the older Millburn side — Wyoming, South Mountain, the colonials near Millburn Avenue — I'm usually dealing with narrow center-hall staircases from the 1920s and 30s. Standard 36-inch straight rails fit, but I measure every tread because the rise can be uneven after 90 years of settling. Up in Short Hills — Deerfield, Glenwood, White Oak Ridge — the houses are bigger, the turns are trickier, and about one in four installs needs a curved rail.

I've put lifts into colonials where the staircase does a tight 90° at the landing, split-levels with a half-flight to the kitchen, and more than a few Short Hills estates where the main stair is a showpiece — wide, sweeping, curved — and the family wants the lift on the back staircase instead to keep the front entry looking original. Every house in this township is different. That's what I like about working here.

— Luis Ramírez, Millburn
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Most Millburn installs take about three hours. The rail bolts to the treads, not the wall — drywall stays intact, no painting needed when it's done. If you're near the train line on the Morris & Essex corridor, Luis can be at your door within 30 minutes for the site visit.

Call for the free assessment. Luis shows up, measures the staircase, tells you whether it's straight or curved, gives you a price on the spot. No follow-up sales call. No pressure. Just an answer so you can make the call and move on.
