Expert Stairlift Installation in Chatham, NJ

In Chatham, most of my calls are for a staircase that turns partway up, the kind built into the colonials and capes near downtown that families here hold onto rather than flip. Since homeowners here notice how the rail sits against the trim, I take the extra time on finish, so call me out to measure and I'll match it to what's already there.

1928 Tallmadge Avenue Tudor — slim-profile rail on steep original treads

Tallmadge Avenue, NJ Installed March 2026

A 1928 Tudor near the Chatham train station with steep original hardwood treads only 31 inches wide between wall and banister. Mrs. DiNapoli had slept on the sofa for three weeks after knee surgery at Morristown Medical Center. The slim-profile rail leaves 20 inches of clear passage. The beige-upholstered seat folds flat at the bottom landing. She slept in her own bed that night.

1962 Lafayette colonial — curved rail through a 90° upper-landing turn

Lafayette, NJ Installed February 2026

A 1962 colonial in the Lafayette section west of River Road with fourteen steps to the upper landing and a 90-degree turn into the bedroom hallway. Mr. Silverman has lived here since 1985. We laser-scanned the run, fabricated a single curved rail bent for the upper-landing turn, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top. His Morristown VA Clinic provider wrote the HISA prescription; the grant covered $6,800.

Fairmount Avenue 1924 cottage — short rail on stone-tile entry treads

Fairmount Avenue, NJ Installed January 2026

A 1924 cottage on Fairmount Avenue with stone-tile treads in the entry hall and a tight 31-inch stairwell typical of pre-war Chatham. The brown seat parks at the bottom landing next to the family's old wooden sideboard, and the rail anchors into the stone with masonry mounts — no tile cracking. The JACC program through Morris County covered the full installation cost.

Stanley Park home — outdoor lift on walkout basement concrete steps

A home near Stanley Park along the Passaic River with a walkout basement and eight exterior concrete steps that iced over every winter. Mr. Kovac had fallen on the steps the previous January. The cream weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom step. Components freeze-rate to -20°F and carry an IP55 seal. The battery backup ran the lift through two nor'easter outages.

Green Village Road, NJ Installed November 2025

A post-war cape on the Green Village Road corridor with a carpeted stairway to the second-floor bedrooms. The brown-toned seat matches the warm-tan carpet, and the rail bolts through the pile into the wood treads beneath — no carpet removal. Mr. Romano's son called Monday from Manhattan; we measured Tuesday and installed Thursday. He was riding it by that evening.

Hickory Tree Road home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Hickory Tree Road, NJ Installed October 2025

A home in the Hickory Tree Road area where Mr. Fitzgerald uses a power wheelchair after a service-connected spinal injury. He needed to ride his chair between garage and main floor. We installed an inclined platform lift: flat black deck, yellow high-visibility edges, white handrails, keyed lockout. The HISA grant covered $6,800 and NJ FamilyCare covered the balance. He rolls on, presses one button, rides up.

Stairlift Service Across Morris County

Morris County, NJ

From the Tudors and colonials lining Fairmount Avenue and Southern Boulevard in the borough center — 1920s and 1930s builds with narrow hardwood staircases and original plaster walls — to the larger mid-century colonials of the Lafayette section west of River Road, our crew has measured every Chatham staircase. Tudors on Tallmadge Avenue near the train station have steep stairways with tight banisters that require slim-profile rails. The Green Village Road corridor features post-war capes and raised ranches with garage-to-main-floor transitions. Properties near Stanley Park along the Passaic River have walkout basements with exterior steps. Newer construction on Hickory Tree Road and the Rolling Hill estate section has wider treads.

Common Questions

Everything Chatham Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift typically cost for a Chatham home?

It depends heavily on the staircase itself — straight run or turned. A straight-rail lift is the cheaper install nationally, but a lot of Chatham's older homes near the Belgian-block streets and the William Day House area have a bend partway up, which means a custom-built curved rail — that's a bigger job and a bigger number. We price off the actual stairway, not a flat borough rate.

Does Chatham's high home values push stairlift prices up?

Not directly — a stairlift is priced off the stairway's shape and length, not the home's value. But with median home values near $944,600, we do see more Chatham homeowners choose upgraded rail finishes to match original woodwork, and that finish work is where the price can move.

Is a reconditioned stairlift a realistic option in Chatham?

For a straight staircase, yes, a reconditioned straight-rail unit can bring the cost down and still perform well. It's a harder match for the older, turned staircases common in Chatham's historic homes, since a used curved rail rarely bends exactly right for a different house.

A word from Luis
Most of the calls I get out of Chatham are for a staircase that turns partway up, not a straight run — that's just what the older housing stock near downtown looks like. Chatham's one of the wealthier towns I work in Morris County, and I've noticed that translates into people caring more than usual about how the rail looks against original trim and molding, not just whether it works. I don't mind the extra time on finish — it's part of the job here.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Chatham homeowners and Morris County veterans have counted on us for years. Call today or submit the form above. We schedule within 24 hours and install the same week for straight-rail jobs. Curved rails take 12 days for fabrication. The Morristown VA Clinic, the Morris County Division on Aging for JACC, and NJ FamilyCare are all programs we handle paperwork for.
