Stairlift Service Across Morris County

Morris County, NJ

Madison's neighborhoods each have their own stairlift story. The Hill Section and Knollwood are full of center-hall colonials with that mid-landing turn — almost always a curved-rail job. Fairwoods, tucked near Drew University, has compact capes and ranches from the 1950s where straight rails bolt right to hardwood treads. The Bottle Hill Historic District along Ridgedale Avenue has pre-1840 homes with the steepest risers in this part of Morris County — you can't widen those staircases without a historic-preservation fight, so a custom rail is the only practical answer. Ridgedale Park and Shadylawn have split-levels with outdoor entry stairs that freeze solid in January — we install more outdoor lifts there than anywhere else in the borough.

Straight

Straight Rail on Hardwood — Bottle Hill Victorian

Bottle Hill Historic District, NJ Installed March 2026

The Andersons' 1885 Victorian on Ridgedale Avenue has the original dark oak treads — beautiful, but steep at 8½-inch risers. Mrs. Anderson, 78, stopped using the upstairs entirely after a knee replacement. Luis installed a beige straight rail bolted directly to the hardwood treads with padded brackets, no wall attachment needed. The seat parks at the bottom landing and carries her up to the second floor.

Curved

Curved Rail at Upper Landing — Hill Section Colonial

The Hill Section, NJ Installed April 2026

The Mitchells' center-hall colonial has a 90-degree turn at the top landing beneath a chandelier — a classic Hill Section layout. Mr. Mitchell, 82, needed access to the second-floor bedroom and was tired of the pull-up-the-bannister routine. Luis laser-measured the full run, and the custom-bent curved rail arrived three weeks later.

Compact Straight Rail — Knollwood Cape Cod

Knollwood, NJ Installed May 2026

The Reyeses' 1952 cape on a tree-lined Knollwood street has stone-tile treads and a narrow staircase next to a built-in sideboard. Mrs. Reyes, 75, uses a cane and had been avoiding the upstairs bedroom. Luis installed a brown straight rail that bolts to the tile treads with masonry anchors — no cracking, no shifting.

Outdoor Lift on Stone Entry — Ridgedale Park Split-Level

Ridgedale Park, NJ Installed October 2025

The Walshes' split-level in Ridgedale Park has a stone-paved entry porch with six steps — beautiful in summer, treacherous in February when ice builds up. Mrs. Walsh, 71, stopped leaving the house from December through March. Luis installed a cream outdoor stairlift with IP55 weather sealing and a rail coating that stands up to ice-melt chemicals. The rail bolts into the stone treads with stainless steel anchors.

Straight

Straight Rail on Carpet — Fairwoods Family Home

Fairwoods, NJ Installed February 2026

The Chens live in a 1960s ranch near Drew University with carpeted stairs leading to the bedroom level. The beige carpet nearly matches the lift's brown upholstery — a detail Mrs. Chen appreciated. Her father, 80, moved in last year and the stairs were the only barrier to him using the whole house. Luis bolted the straight rail through the carpet and pad into the structural treads, no sagging, no carpet damage.

Platform Lift

Indoor Wheelchair Platform — Dellwood Residence

Dellwood, NJ Installed January 2026

The Okonkwos' son uses a wheelchair full-time, and the family's Dellwood home has a long straight staircase to the second floor. Luis installed an indoor inclined platform lift — flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail — that carries the wheelchair up the full flight. No remodeling, no elevator shaft. The platform folds up against the wall when not in use. The 600 lb capacity covers both the wheelchair and rider.

Common Questions

Everything Madison Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Madison, NJ?

Straight stairlifts in Madison start at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts — common in the Hill Section and Bottle Hill Historic District where center-hall colonials have mid-landing turns — start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for Madison's split-level entries start at $4,000. Heavy-duty units with 600 lb capacity start at $5,050. Every quote includes the rail, seat, installation, and a 5-year warranty with lifetime rail coverage. Battery backup comes standard and runs the lift through a typical winter power outage.

Are curved stairlifts more expensive in Madison's older homes?

Yes, because every curved rail is custom-bent to match your exact staircase geometry. In Madison's Bottle Hill Historic District, where many homes predate 1840, staircases were built before standard building codes — each one is different. Luis does a 1-hour laser measurement on site, and the rail is fabricated off-site to match every turn and landing. A typical Madison curved-rail install runs $9,000–$14,000 depending on the number of turns and overall rail length. Measurement and fabrication take about 10 business days; installation itself is a single day.

Do you offer financing for stairlifts in Madison?

Yes — financing starts at $79/month. Terms depend on credit approval and the total install cost. A typical straight-rail install in a Fairwoods or Knollwood cape at $2,800 would run about $79/month on a standard plan. The paperwork takes about 10 minutes at the assessment visit. No prepayment penalty, and you can pay it off early without a fee.

Why do outdoor stairlifts cost more than indoor models in Madison?

Outdoor lifts need weather sealing that indoor units don't. Madison winters mean sub-freezing temperatures, snow, and freeze-thaw cycles from December through March — the motor housing, rail coating, and electrical connections all have to be IP55-rated to handle moisture and temperature swings. The rail gets a marine-grade coating that stops ice-melt chemicals from corroding the metal. Installation also takes longer because we anchor into stone or concrete exterior steps, which is more involved than bolting to interior hardwood treads.

A word from Luis

Madison has some of the oldest housing stock in Morris County, which is what makes this work interesting. The Bottle Hill Historic District along Ridgedale Avenue has homes from the 1700s — the Luke Miller House predates the country itself. Those staircases are steep, narrow, and often have a turn halfway up that a standard straight rail can't handle. I measured a Victorian on Greenwood Avenue last month where the risers were a full 8½ inches — fine in 1880, but a real problem for someone with bad knees in 2026.

The other thing I see a lot in Madison is the college-town effect — families buying near Drew or FDU, keeping a parent in the house, and suddenly the stairs between the first-floor kitchen and second-floor bedroom become the daily crisis point. The Hill Section, Knollwood, and Fairwoods all have beautiful mature homes, but almost none were built with aging in place in mind. We do a lot of curved-rail installs up there because of the mid-landing turns in the center-hall colonials. Outdoor lifts too — Ridgedale Park and Shadylawn have split-levels where the only entry is up a half-flight of exterior stone steps that ice over in February.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Madison's combination of historic homes, university campuses, and a walkable downtown off the Midtown Direct line makes it a town people don't want to leave — even when the stairs get hard. Whether it's a Victorian on Ridgedale Avenue with treads from the 1880s or a 1950s colonial in Fairwoods, the right lift keeps the whole house usable without turning the living room into a ground-floor bedroom.

Luis and the team handle the measurement, the install, and the funding paperwork — HISA for veterans through the Morristown VA Clinic on West Hanover Avenue, MLTSS for NJ FamilyCare members, and JACC for seniors 60 and older who qualify. Most Madison installs finish in three to four hours, and the rail bolts to the treads — no wall work, no drywall repair, no repainting needed.
