Stairlift Service Across Maricopa County

Maricopa County, AZ

Sun Lakes splits into five active-adult country club communities across three HOAs. Sun Lakes Country Club (HOA1) is the original — 2,139 homes from the 1970s, both single-family and manufactured, mostly single-story ranch layouts. Cottonwood and Palo Verde share HOA2 — Cottonwood's 2,736 homes include villa duplexes and two-story models; Palo Verde is gated with 1,073 homes from the '80s and '90s. Ironwood and Oakwood form HOA3 (IronOaks), guard-gated — Ironwood has 734 homes, Oakwood 3,285, with the newest construction through 2006. Oakwood Lakes, a waterfront section within Oakwood, has two-story homes with staircases overlooking the man-made lake. Most homes across all five communities are single-story stucco with tile roofs and desert landscaping.

Original '70s Ranch Gets Straight Rail

Sun Lakes Country Club, AZ Installed March 2026

The Morrisons bought this 1978 ranch in Sun Lakes Country Club five years ago. Dark hardwood stairs leading up to a loft space — original oak treads, well-maintained. The straight rail bolted to the treads in three hours. Cream seat parked at the bottom landing, tucks against the wall when not in use. Mrs. Morrison uses the loft as her sewing room and now gets up there without her husband spotting her on the stairs.

Mr. Schaffer had been sleeping on the ground floor pullout couch for six months before the install.

Common Questions

Everything Sun Lakes Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Sun Lakes?

A straight stairlift in Sun Lakes starts at $2,800 installed. Curved rails start at $9,000 — the custom bend adds cost because each rail is laser-measured to your staircase. Outdoor units for patio or porch steps start at $4,000 with IP55 weather sealing for Arizona conditions. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 lb start at $5,050. All prices include installation, the rail, seat, two remotes, and the DC battery backup system. Financing runs $79/month. No hidden fees — Luis gives you the exact price at the free in-home assessment.

Does Medicare or AHCCCS cover a stairlift in Sun Lakes?

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in Maricopa County offer a home-modification benefit, but it varies by plan. AHCCCS through ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care System) can cover stairlifts under policy AMPM 1240-I, but only for members who qualify for nursing-facility-level care and are approved for home and community-based services. The approval process includes a clinical assessment. For veterans, the HISA grant — processed through the Phoenix VA — covers up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities.

Are there any hidden costs with a Sun Lakes stairlift installation?

No. The price Luis quotes at the assessment is the price you pay — installation, rail, seat, remotes, and battery backup are all included. If you're in an HOA community (all five Sun Lakes neighborhoods have HOAs), there's no charge for the architectural-review paperwork — Luis handles it as a Fair Housing Act reasonable-accommodation request. The only potential extra is if your electrical outlet near the stairs needs updating; that's rare in Sun Lakes homes since most were built from the 1970s onward with modern wiring.

How do Sun Lakes stairlift prices compare to Phoenix metro?

Prices in Sun Lakes are the same as the rest of the Phoenix metro area — $2,800 straight, $9,000 curved, $4,000 outdoor, $5,050 heavy-duty. We don't charge extra for the drive from Chandler. The cost difference between Sun Lakes communities comes down to the staircase itself: Cottonwood villa duplexes tend to have shorter, simpler stairs (straight rail, lower end), while the two-story Borgata models in Oakwood with a turn at the landing need a curved rail at the higher end.

A word from Luis

Sun Lakes is different from most places I work. Five separate country club communities, each with its own housing stock. Sun Lakes Country Club has the oldest homes — 1970s builds, some manufactured, mostly single-story but a few with staircases to loft spaces. Cottonwood and Palo Verde sit under HOA2, built in the '80s and '90s — you see more two-story models with casitas there. Ironwood and Oakwood are the guard-gated side, HOA3, with the newest construction going up to 2006. The two-story Borgata models in Oakwood have a staircase turn at the landing — that's where a curved rail comes in. Most installs I do here are straight rails on the few homes with stairs, but I've done curved rails and outdoor units too. The HOA rules require architectural review for any exterior modification, but the Fair Housing Act covers stairlifts as a reasonable accommodation — I help owners with the paperwork.

One thing people here don't always think about: monsoon season. June through September, dust storms knock out power across the East Valley. Every stairlift I install in Sun Lakes has a DC battery backup that runs the lift through a typical outage. For the outdoor units on patio steps or porch entries, the IP55 weather sealing holds up to blowing dust and the occasional heavy downpour. These lifts work when the power doesn't.

— Luis Ramírez, Sun Lakes
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

If your parent lives in Sun Lakes and the stairs are becoming a problem, you're not alone — with a median age of 73.5, nearly four out of five residents here are over 65. The good news is that most Sun Lakes homes are single-story, so a stairlift install is often a one-day project on a short straight flight. For the two-story models in Oakwood and Cottonwood, we measure on site and bolt the rail to the treads — no wall work, no structural changes, and the HOA architectural review is handled as a Fair Housing Act reasonable accommodation.

Call Luis at (480) 712-3304. He'll come out from the Chandler office, measure your staircase, and give you an exact price on the spot. Same-week install is available for straight rails. For ALTCS or HISA grant applicants, he'll walk you through the paperwork at the assessment.
