Stairlift Service Across St. Croix County

St. Croix County, WI

New Richmond's housing stock spans 150 years of Wisconsin building — and stairlift needs shift neighborhood by neighborhood. West Side Historic District homes (1870–1911) have steep original oak staircases in Queen Annes and Foursquares — beautiful but punishing for aging knees. The East Side Historic District on Park Avenue features Colonial Revival homes from 1900–1909 with 90-degree landings that call for curved rails. Boardman (1970s–1990s construction) is dense with split-levels and narrow stairwells — straight lifts fit nearly every one. Paperjack Place, Hidden Creek Estates, and Quail Creek offer newer two-story homes with carpeted stairs and standard rise. Cattail Villas, the 55-plus community on the city's east side, has single-level attached homes — but families often retrofit the two-story they're leaving.

Straight

Original Oak Staircase, West Side Historic District

West Side Historic District, WI Installed February 2026

The Olsons' 1908 Foursquare on Dakota Avenue has the original oak staircase — tight treads, steep rise, built before modern code. Luis bolted a straight rail to the treads in about three hours. The cream seat tucks beside the newel post at the bottom landing, leaving the stained-glass window above fully visible. Battery backup tested and the motor runs quiet on the old hardwood.

90-Degree Curve, East Side Historic District

East Side Historic District, WI Installed April 2026

The Andersons' 1904 Colonial Revival on Park Avenue has a staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing under a brass chandelier. Luis laser-measured the curve on site — the custom rail arrived two weeks later. The brown seat parks at the top floor, hidden from the entryway. The dual-rail drive handles the turn so smoothly that Mrs. Anderson rides it one-handed while holding her coffee.

Stone-Tread Split-Level, Boardman

Boardman, WI Installed March 2026

The Nelsons' 1978 split-level in Boardman has stone-tread stairs leading up to the upper landing. Compact space, with a wooden sideboard near the bottom. Luis installed a straight rail along the wall side — the brown seat tucks beside the sideboard without blocking the walkway.

Stone-Paved Porch Entry, Paperjack Place

Paperjack Place, WI Installed October 2025

The Petersons' home near Paperjack Creek has a stone-paved front entry with four steps to the porch. Luis installed a weather-sealed outdoor lift — IP55-rated, marine-grade stainless rail, sealed motor housing. The cream seat handles snowmelt runoff, sub-zero mornings, and spring rain without a hiccup. Mr. Peterson cleared snow off it twice over the winter with a broom. The lift ran every time.

Carpeted Two-Story, Hidden Creek Estates

Hidden Creek Estates, WI Installed January 2026

The Johnsons' 1990s two-story in Hidden Creek Estates has carpeted stairs to the bedrooms. The brown seat matches the beige carpet — standard residential install. Luis bolted the rail through the carpet to the treads beneath, no drywall work, no rewiring. Three hours start to finish. Mrs. Johnson had been avoiding the upstairs bathroom for months. Now she uses it every night.

Cattail Villas, WI Installed May 2026

The Thompsons moved to a one-level villa in Cattail Villas, but Mr. Thompson's sister visits weekly and uses a wheelchair. The interior entry has a short staircase — four steps. Luis installed an indoor inclined platform lift with a flat black deck, yellow safety edges, and white handrail. The platform carries her chair up the incline; rated to 600 lb. Common Questions

Everything New Richmond Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in New Richmond?

A straight stairlift in New Richmond starts at $2,800 installed. That covers the rail, seat, battery backup, and installation — about 3 hours of work. If your staircase is longer than 14 feet, an extra rail section adds roughly $200–$300. Curved lifts, custom-bent to match your stair turn, start at $9,000. The quote Luis gives you during the home visit is the final price — no travel surcharge for St. Croix County, no upcharge for old-house quirks. Financing runs from $79/month.

Are there ways to reduce stairlift costs in the New Richmond area?

The main cost-cutting moves: stay with a straight lift if your stairs have no turns — even a small landing partway up usually allows a continuous straight rail. Pick a standard cream or brown seat instead of custom upholstery. Ask about the $79/month financing to spread the upfront cost. Do not skip battery backup to save money — St. Croix County winter storms knock out power often enough that battery backup pays for itself the first time the lights go out during a storm.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in New Richmond's historic homes?

Every curved rail is custom-bent to your exact staircase after a 1-hour laser measurement. The East Side Historic District homes on Park Avenue often have 90-degree turns with specific rise-and-run geometry from the 1900s — no two are identical, so there's no off-the-shelf rail. Fabrication takes about two weeks. The curved model also uses a dual-rail drive system to handle the turn smoothly, which adds component cost. The upside: the rail hugs the stairs tight and the seat parks out of sight at the top.

Does Medicare or Wisconsin Medicaid cover stairlift costs?

Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as durable medical equipment but specifically excluded from Part B coverage. Wisconsin Medicaid's Family Care and IRIS (Include, Respect, I Self-Direct) programs can cover Environmental Accessibility Adaptations including stairlifts for eligible participants who need a nursing-home level of care but choose to stay at home. The St. Croix County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) handles eligibility screenings for both programs. The VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for service-connected veterans.

A word from Luis

I've installed lifts in New Richmond since 2010. The thing nobody thinks about here is the freeze-thaw. Those brick Foursquares on the West Side — beautiful homes, but those staircases get cold. The rail needs mounting points deep enough that the metal doesn't shift when the temperature swings 40 degrees in a day. We use longer bolts and isolate the brackets from the treads so the wood can breathe.

The other call I get a lot is about those 1970s split-levels over in Boardman and the ranch homes off Paperjack Drive. Narrow stairs, tight turn at the landing. A standard straight rail almost always fits, but I measure twice because every inch matters when someone's using a walker. The rail edge can't protrude into the walking path.

And the folks moving into Cattail Villas — a lot of them plan ahead. They put the lift into the family home before they sell it, so the next owner has it or for when grandkids visit and the stairs become an issue. Smart move. The one-level villa eliminates the daily stairs, but the old house still needs one.

— Luis Ramírez, New Richmond
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Whether your mom lives in a 1908 Foursquare on Dakota Avenue with the original oak staircase or a 1990s two-story in Paperjack Place, a stairlift in New Richmond has to handle Wisconsin winters and St. Croix County's mix of old and new construction. The battery backup matters here — winter storms knock out power in this part of the county, and a lift that quits when the lights go out isn't much help at 2 a.m.

Call Luis at (800) 965-0350 or fill out the form on this page. He'll come to your New Richmond home — usually the same week — measure your stairs, and hand you a firm quote before he leaves. Most straight-lift installs in the area happen within 7 to 10 days of that measurement. Curved rails take about 3 to 4 weeks from measurement to install.
