Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The workhorse of Jersey City's rowhouses, brownstones, and walk-ups. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Hudson County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the compact profile leaves 17+ inches of clear passage even in a 28-inch Jersey City stairwell. Most installs wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $3,300 installed

Stairlift Service Across Hudson County

Hudson County, NJ

From the brownstones of Paulus Hook and Hamilton Park — where three-story walk-ups with original oak banisters need condo-board paperwork before any install — to The Heights, where narrow pre-war rowhouses climbing the Palisades have the steepest, tightest staircases in Hudson County, our team has mapped every block. We know which Journal Square walk-ups have 1920s tile-tread stairs requiring special bracket hardware, which Bergen-Lafayette Victorians have curved newel posts the rail must thread past, and which Downtown duplex levels a condo elevator doesn't reach. We also cover Hoboken, Union City, Bayonne, Kearny, Secaucus, and Weehawken — all within 15 minutes of Journal Square. The VA New Jersey Health Care System in East Orange is about 20 minutes west; we coordinate HISA paperwork with their prosthetics department for Hudson County veterans.

1920s Paulus Hook brownstone — rail color-matched to original oak treads

Paulus Hook, NJ Installed March 2026

A 1920s brownstone in Paulus Hook with original oak treads and a mahogany banister the family absolutely refused to alter. The condo board required 10 days' notice and an insurance certificate before any work could begin — we had the packet submitted the day after the assessment. We brought color samples, matched the rail finish to the existing oak grain, and bolted the track into the treads without touching a single spindle. Mrs. Morales's son in Manhattan said it blends so well he walked right past it the first time he visited.

90° landing turn in a Bergen-Lafayette Victorian

Bergen-Lafayette, NJ Installed February 2026

An 1890s Victorian in Bergen-Lafayette with an L-shaped staircase and a 90° turn at the upper landing — the original curved newel post made a straight rail impossible. We digitally scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the original newel post without grazing it, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the upper landing so Mrs. Santos steps off onto the hallway floor instead of the top tread. The entire consultation was conducted in Spanish — Mrs. Santos's mother needed to understand every step before she would agree to the installation.

Hamilton Park cottage — straight rail past the family sideboard on stone treads

Hamilton Park, NJ Installed January 2026

A compact pre-war home in Hamilton Park with stone-tread stairs tucked next to a wooden sideboard and a potted fern the family refused to move. The space was tight — we mounted the straight rail along the inner wall, kept the seat folded flat when parked, and left enough clearance for Mrs. DiNapoli to walk past the sideboard to her kitchen. The traditional tile-and-stone interior gave the cottage a Mediterranean warmth, and the rail's beige finish blends right into the palette.

Journal Square front stoop — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone steps

Journal Square, NJ Installed November 2025

A 1930s multi-family near Journal Square with a raised front stoop — seven stone steps from the sidewalk to the front door. Mr. Patel's father, 83, had been entering the house through the ground-floor tenant's apartment for six months because the stoop steps were too dangerous in wet weather. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor rail anchored into the existing stone paving, with a keyed lockout so only the family can operate it. His father now enters through his own front door every day.

Greenville carpeted stairs — swivel-exit seat for safer top-landing exit

Greenville, NJ Installed October 2025

A two-story home in Greenville with 14 carpeted treads and a top landing where Mrs. Jackson's husband had slipped the previous winter. The swivel-exit seat was the deciding feature — it rotates 90° at the upper landing so she stands on the hallway floor instead of balancing on the top step. Her daughter in Newark joined the assessment by FaceTime and approved the quote that same afternoon. Installed three days later.

Indoor wheelchair platform for a Downtown duplex condo

Downtown, NJ Installed September 2025

A converted warehouse duplex in Downtown Jersey City where the internal staircase between the two condo levels wasn't served by the building elevator. The Rivera's son uses a power wheelchair and needed to access both floors of the family's unit. We installed an inclined platform lift with yellow high-visibility safety edges along the indoor stairway, a fold-up deck when not in use, and a keyed call station at the lower level. The condo board approved the installation in six days after we submitted the ADA reasonable-accommodation packet.

Common Questions

Everything Jersey City Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Jersey City right now?

Straight rails in standard Jersey City homes — the three-story brownstones in Paulus Hook, the rowhouses in The Heights, the walk-ups around Journal Square — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for the L-shaped staircases in Bergen-Lafayette Victorians and the mid-landing turns in some Heights multi-families, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for front-stoop entries and porch steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Jersey City than other NJ cities?

Equipment prices are the same across New Jersey — we don't inflate quotes for Downtown or Paulus Hook addresses. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow brownstone staircase clearances, condo-board paperwork timelines, and the compact-profile rail we specify for Jersey City's sub-30-inch stairwells that wouldn't be needed in a suburban colonial. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise 'Jersey City premiums.'

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Hudson County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of families in The Heights, Journal Square, and Greenville through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Any hidden fees for condo or co-op buildings?

Our quote includes the condo-board paperwork we handle for you — we've worked with 60+ Jersey City buildings from the waterfront towers to The Heights walk-ups, so the forms are already templated. What can add cost (rarely) is when a building requires its own engineer's letter or asks us to file a formal ARB submission. If that happens, we tell you before we start — not after. Under NJ's Law Against Discrimination, condo boards must grant reasonable accommodations for disabled residents.

A word from Luis

Most Jersey City families call me after a near-miss — a slip on the narrow stairs of a Paulus Hook brownstone, a parent who stopped going to the second floor after knee surgery, a daughter in Manhattan who can see her mother's Heights rowhouse from across the river but can't be there every day.

My job is simple: get to your home within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
