Straight Stairlift

The compact, clearance-efficient solution for West New York's pre-war walk-ups.

The majority of West New York installs use this model with the compact-profile rail — 11 inches wide with the seat folded, leaving 16 or more inches of clear passage even in a 27-inch Bergenline Avenue stairwell. The rail bolts into the stair treads, never the wall, and the folding seat, armrests, and footrest tuck completely flat when not in use. Most installs wrap in under four hours, and landlord authorization documentation is included at no charge.

Starting at $3,300 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Stairlift Service Across Hudson County

Hudson County, NJ

The pre-war walk-up buildings along Bergenline Avenue are the defining install challenge in West New York — steep stairwells, narrow clearances, and buildings that haven't been updated since the 1940s. We know which blocks have the 27-inch stairwells that need the compact rail, which buildings have the quarter-turn at the second-floor landing that requires a curved section, and which landlords we've already worked with and have authorization templates on file for. In the South End, the rowhouse stock from the 1920s and '30s presents similar geometry: original oak treads, no handrail on the non-banister side, and tight arched openings at the stair head that require a folding footrest to clear. The Hudson River Waterfront buildings are a different world — newer construction, property managers, and condo boards that we've submitted ADA accommodation packets to before. We know the process for each of them.

We also cover the immediately surrounding towns: Guttenberg (0.9 km), North Bergen (1.5 km), Weehawken (2.1 km), Union City (2.8 km), and Fairview (3.7 km) — all within 15 minutes. Every assessment in the greater West New York area is covered under our Hudson County service territory with no travel fees.

Bergenline Avenue walk-up — compact rail in a 27-inch pre-war stairwell

Bergenline Avenue, NJ Installed March 2026

A 1930s four-story walk-up on Bergenline Avenue where the common staircase measured 27 inches wall-to-wall — the tightest clearance our Hudson County team sees routinely. Two other companies had told the family it was impossible. We installed the compact-profile rail, added a folding footrest and armrests that tuck completely flat, and left 16 inches of clear passage for other residents on the non-rail side. The entire consultation was conducted in Spanish. Sra. Vargas's daughter, who lives in Union City, joined the assessment by phone and approved the quote the same afternoon.

South End rowhouse — straight rail on original 1940s oak treads

South End, NJ Installed February 2026

A 1942 rowhouse in the South End with original oak treads and an arched stair-head opening that narrowed to 26 inches at the top. The family wanted the original treads preserved — no screws in the face of the riser, nothing visible from the banister side. We bolted the rail into the tread nosings only, specified the folding footrest to clear the arched opening, and finished the installation before the family's lunch. The landlord had approved the work order six days earlier after reviewing our HIC registration and liability certificate.

Mid-Town walk-up — curved rail through a quarter-turn landing

Mid-Town, NJ Installed January 2026

A five-story pre-war building in West New York's Mid-Town section where the staircase made a quarter-turn between the first and second floor — common in older Hudson County walk-ups built before uniform staircase codes. A straight rail would have ended at the turn with no way to continue. We scanned the geometry on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads through the quarter-turn without touching the existing railing, and installed in one afternoon. The building super watched the whole installation and asked for our card for two other tenants.

Waterfront building — weather-sealed entry lift for a raised front stoop

Hudson River Waterfront, NJ Installed December 2025

A newer waterfront building in West New York with a raised front entry stoop — six concrete steps from the shared courtyard to the lobby level. Mrs. Kim's mother had begun entering through the parking-level entrance, adding two extra blocks to every trip in and out. The building's managing agent approved the outdoor installation in four days after reviewing our ADA reasonable-accommodation documentation packet. We installed a weather-sealed rail anchored into the existing concrete, with a keyed lockout that the managing agent required. Mrs. Kim's mother now uses the main entrance every day.

South End apartment — swivel-exit seat for safer top-landing exit

South End, NJ Installed November 2025

A third-floor walk-up in the South End where the top landing measured just 30 inches from the top tread to the apartment door. Mrs. Delgado's physical therapist flagged the exit point as the highest fall-risk moment on the staircase — stepping off a moving seat directly onto a small landing with no grab bar. We installed a powered swivel seat that rotates Mrs. Delgado 90 degrees at the top so she faces the hallway wall, then steps off with both feet on level ground before turning toward her door. Her landlord approved the installation after reviewing the documentation we sent the same day as the assessment.

Platform Lift

Bergenline Avenue multi-family — slim-profile rail in a renovated walk-up

Bergenline Avenue, NJ Installed October 2025

A renovated walk-up on Bergenline Avenue where Mrs. Morales uses a wheelchair after a spinal cord injury. A seated stairlift would have required transfers she cannot perform independently. We installed a vertical platform lift that lets her roll from the ground-floor entrance directly onto the platform and ride to the second-floor landing without leaving her chair. The building owner had recently renovated the stairwell with wider doorframes — the platform fit within the existing footprint with two inches to spare on each side. The property manager approved the installation on the condition that other residents could still use the staircase, which our design accommodates.

Common Questions

Everything West New York Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in West New York, NJ?

Straight rails in standard West New York walk-ups run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. The compact-profile rail we use in Bergenline Avenue and South End buildings with narrow stairwells (under 30 inches) is within the same price range — there's no upcharge for the compact spec. Curved rails for buildings with quarter-turn or L-shaped staircases run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase's exact geometry. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Is there an extra charge for handling landlord or condo board approvals?

No. We prepare the landlord authorization packet, the building insurance request, the NJ HIC registration copy, and the equipment spec sheet as part of every West New York quote. We've worked with dozens of Hudson County building owners and have templates ready for the most common building types in town. If your building requires an engineer's letter or a formal ADA accommodation filing, we tell you upfront — not after installation starts.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every West New York assessment can be conducted entirely in Spanish from the first phone call through the operating manual walkthrough. Our installer is bilingual and based in Hudson County. Every written quote, consent form, and warranty document is available in Spanish. No surcharge, no upcharge, no exception.

Do you offer financing for West New York residents?

Yes — three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and fixed-rate plans from $79/month. Approval is a soft credit pull, takes about 4 minutes, and is usually instant. Many West New York families combine financing with the VA HISA grant or the NJ MLTSS Medicaid benefit to reduce the out-of-pocket cost further. We walk through every option at the free assessment.

A word from Luis

West New York is one of the densest municipalities in New Jersey — and with only 21% homeownership, most of the stairlift calls I get here involve a landlord, a building super, or a family making decisions for a parent in a third-floor walk-up that has never had an elevator. That's a different conversation than a suburban colonial in Morris County, and I've had it hundreds of times.

Every Hudson County assessment starts with three questions: who owns the unit, does anyone need to approve the work, and how wide is the narrowest point on your staircase. The rest follows from there. Hablamos español.
