Stairlift Service Across Hudson County

Hudson County, NJ

Hudson County, NJ. Hoboken is a single square mile, but staircase conditions vary block by block. The brownstones near Observer Highway tend to have the steepest, narrowest runs. Rowhouses along Washington Street between 4th and 10th vary in width by construction decade. Converted waterfront buildings often have improved clearances from recent renovations. The northwest blocks near Stevens Institute frequently have no elevator and stairs that predate 1900.

1890s Hoboken brownstone — slim rail inside a 29-inch staircase

Hoboken South End, NJ Installed March 2026

An 1891 brownstone near Observer Highway with 29 inches of usable stair width, original dark hardwood treads, and a homeowner who’d been told by two other companies the stairs were too narrow. We confirmed the slim-profile rail would clear with 4 inches to spare, bolted the rail directly to the oak treads, and positioned the seat at the bottom landing. Mrs. Callaghan had lived in this home for 41 years and had been putting this off for three. It took us under three hours.

Curved

Pre-war rowhouse — curved rail for top-landing flare

Midtown Hoboken, NJ Installed February 2026

The Orozco home is a 1910 Hoboken rowhouse with the characteristic period flare at the top landing — the staircase widens by about 8 inches in the final two treads. We laser-scanned both the straight run and the flared section, fabricated a curved rail that follows the 90-degree turn at the upper floor, and installed in a single afternoon. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the top landing and swivels so Mr. Orozco’s wife exits facing the hallway, not the stairs.

Converted three-family — compact staircase with stone treads

Hoboken North End, NJ Installed January 2026

A converted three-family rowhouse in Hoboken’s north end with a compact staircase, stone-tile treads, and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs that the family wanted to keep. We positioned the rail to clear the furniture, bolted into the stone treads with masonry anchors, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the bottom next to the cabinet. The cottage-style interior and tight dimensions required the slim-profile rail. The Fontaine family’s condo board approved via email vote in nine days.

Hoboken brownstone stoop — outdoor rail on stone-paved entry

Midtown Hoboken, NJ Installed December 2025

The Patel brownstone has a classic raised front entry with rough natural stone paving and seven exterior steps to the front door. When Dr. Patel’s mother moved in after her hip replacement, the stone steps were the primary obstacle. We anchored a weather-sealed outdoor rail into the stone landing, mounted a cream-colored seat rated for NJ’s freeze-thaw cycles, and sealed every connection point against moisture. The seat folds flat when not in use, keeping the entry’s profile clean. Natural daylight floods the covered porch area from above.

Walk-up building — straight rail on carpeted stairs to fourth floor

Hoboken North End, NJ Installed November 2025

Mrs. Benedetti has lived in the same Hoboken walk-up since 1979. The building has no elevator, and the climb from the third floor to her fourth-floor unit runs up carpeted stairs with a small landing. We installed a straight rail on that section — bolted through the carpet into the wood treads beneath, with a brown-upholstered seat that matches the carpet tones. The seat parks at the landing area, and the folding footrest keeps the stairway clear for other residents.

Platform Lift

Hoboken rowhouse — indoor wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

Hoboken South End, NJ Installed October 2025

Mr. Kaminsky is a full-time wheelchair user who cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. The family’s rowhouse has an interior stairway with orange-toned walls and a window on the landing. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip surface and high-visibility yellow safety edges along both sides. The white handrail guides the platform along the indoor stairway. Mr. Kaminsky rolls onto the platform, engages the safety rail, and rides between floors without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Hoboken Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Hoboken’s brownstones and rowhouses?

Straight rails in Hoboken homes typically run $2,800 to $5,500 installed — but only if your staircase clears the minimum width and the run is a single uninterrupted straight section. Pre-war brownstones and rowhouses frequently have a slight flare or curve at the top landing that requires a custom curved rail, which runs $9,000 to $15,000. We identify this on the first visit before you commit to anything. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service call.

Is there an extra charge for working in a Hoboken condo building?

No charge for the condo board documentation packet — we’ve worked with enough Hudson County buildings that most of the paperwork is already templated. If your building requires an engineer’s letter or a specific insurance rider beyond our standard certificate, we notify you in writing before any additional cost is incurred. The standard quote covers the install. Permit costs, when required, are billed at cost and disclosed upfront.

Do you offer monthly financing?

Yes — from $79/month through three lending partners, including 0% APR plans for qualified buyers. The application is a soft credit pull (no score impact), takes about four minutes, and approval is usually same-day. If you also qualify for the NJ JACC program or a VA HISA grant, we work through all available sources together to show you the most accurate out-of-pocket number before you sign anything.

Can I deduct the cost as a medical expense on my federal taxes?

Yes, if a licensed physician provides written documentation of medical necessity. We provide the letter template — your doctor fills it out, and the IRS classifies the installation as a qualified medical expense under Schedule A. For households that itemize, the full cost reduces taxable income, typically worth $600–$2,400 back depending on your bracket. We can discuss whether itemizing makes sense for your situation during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Hoboken is genuinely one of the more technically interesting markets I work in. The brownstone and rowhouse stock from the 1880s through the 1920s has staircases that are steep, narrow, and often built with a slight curve at the top landing — an architectural detail that was standard back then and that rules out almost every straight rail on the market. Add the condo conversion layer, where a building that used to be a three-family rowhouse now has separate unit owners and a board, and you have a permissioning environment that moves on its own schedule.

I’ve learned which Hoboken buildings have active boards, which have management companies, and which are self-managed by three owners who disagree on everything. That knowledge saves my customers weeks.
