Expert Stairlift Installation in Derry, PA

Derry Township runs 27.4 square miles along the Swatara Creek in southeastern Dauphin County, and the local economy is really one company town plus a hospital system — The Hershey Company's chocolate plant and Hersheypark on one side, Penn State's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Children's Hospital on the other. Housing here is mostly low-density suburban, with a notable exception: Harmony at Hershey on East Canal Street, a dedicated independent living, assisted living, and memory care community. For the families I meet who own their own homes and want to stay in them, a stairlift is usually the difference between aging in place and moving to somewhere like Harmony sooner than they'd choose to.

1910s Hershey worker home — straight rail on original oak treads

Hershey, PA Installed March 2026

A 1912 worker home on Trinidad Avenue in the original Hershey planned community, with 13 narrow dark-stained oak treads and a painted wood banister original to the house. We laser-measured the 14-foot straight run, confirmed the century-old treads could accept the mounting hardware, and bolted the rail tread-to-tread — wall stays untouched. The cream-upholstered seat parks flush at the bottom landing. Install ran 3.5 hours; Mrs.

1960s Oakmont split-level — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

Oakmont, PA Installed February 2026

A 1965 split-level near Waltonville and Wood Roads with a 90-degree landing mid-run. Mr. Hartman served at Fort Indiantown Gap and has lived in the house since 1990. We laser-scanned the full staircase on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the entry to the upper hallway in one continuous ride, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top floor.

Hockersville cottage — straight rail on stone tile treads near wooden sideboard

Hockersville, PA Installed January 2026

A compact older home in the Hockersville area with light stone tile treads and a narrow 34-inch stairwell. The family's wooden sideboard sits at the base of the stairs — tight quarters, traditional feel. We fitted the slimmest straight rail profile available, bolting into the tile-covered structural treads so the sideboard stayed in place. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom near the cabinet; folded, the assembly takes 12 inches of width.

Swatara home — outdoor lift on concrete porch steps

Swatara, PA Installed December 2025

A home in the Swatara area with six concrete front steps that iced over every winter. Mr. Reeves had slipped twice before his daughter called us. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom porch entry, mounted over rough stone-paved steps.

Palmdale home — straight rail on carpeted stairs, same-week install

Palmdale, PA Installed November 2025

A newer two-story home in the Palmdale area with carpeted treads in warm tan tones and a tiled foyer floor at the base. Mrs. Werner's son called on Monday, we measured Tuesday afternoon, and the install crew arrived Thursday morning. The rail mounts flush against the wall, and the swivel seat matches the carpet tones so it blends naturally on the staircase.

Platform Lift

Waltonville home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Waltonville, PA Installed October 2025

A multi-level home in the Waltonville area where Mr. Crawford uses a power wheelchair after a service-connected injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift: flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrail, keyed lockout. Capacity is 600 lbs.

Stairlift Service Across Dauphin County

Dauphin County, PA

From the original Hershey worker homes lining Chocolate Avenue and Trinidad Avenue — built in the early 1900s when Milton Hershey planned the town for his factory employees — to the newer subdivisions in Palmdale and the established ranchers in Hockersville, our crew has measured staircases across every Derry Township neighborhood. Swatara's mid-century homes feature standard straight-run stairs with narrow treads and low ceilings. Waltonville's ranch-style homes have basement stairs that need precise rail placement for tight clearances. The Oakmont area near Wood Road has older split-levels with landing turns that require curved rails. Laurel Woods' newer construction offers wider stairways that simplify installs, while the historic Hershey homes along Cocoa Avenue have steep, narrow stairs original to the 1910s construction.

Common Questions

Everything Derry Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What's a realistic price range for a stairlift in Derry Township?

Straight staircases cost less than curved ones, and most of what I see in Derry Township's low-density housing is a straight or lightly turned run rather than the tight, multi-turn staircases you get in older, denser towns. Before assuming it's out of reach, look at the PA Assistive Technology Foundation — a Mini-Loan of $100 to $7,000 at 0% interest, or a Low-Interest Loan up to $60,000 total at 3.75%, with no income limit attached.

Do I pay for the stairlift again down the road, or is it a one-time cost?

One-time purchase and install for a purchased unit. With homeownership around 63.3% in Derry Township, plenty of families here are staying put long-term and treat the lift as a permanent fixture — though a rental option exists too, which comes up more with folks recovering short-term at Hershey Medical Center before heading back to a place like Harmony at Hershey or their own home.

A word from Luis
A lot of my Derry Township calls trace back to Hershey Medical Center — someone's discharged after a hip or knee procedure and needs the stairs handled before they can go home safely. The housing stock out here is spread out and low-density, built more for single-family living than the row-house layouts I see closer to the city, so I'm usually working with a straight run or a gentle turn rather than anything tight. I tell people the same thing every time: get the measurement done before discharge day, not after, because a rushed install is never as clean as one that's planned.
