Stairlift Service Across Dauphin County

Dauphin County, PA

Swatara Township's neighborhoods trace the arc of mid-century suburban expansion east of Harrisburg. Lawnton and Lenker Manor were built in the 1940s and 1950s — ranch homes and Cape Cods with oak-tread staircases and narrow 34-inch hallways that challenge standard stairlift fits. Rutherford Heights and Chambers Hill followed the same era with split-levels on sloping lots, often requiring custom rail bends at the landing turn. Bressler, Enhaut, and Oberlin, split from the old Bressler-Enhaut-Oberlin CDP in 2010, hold dense rows of brick twins and compact colonials where straight-rail installs are most common. Newer subdivisions — Beaufort Farms, Capital Ridge, Rolling Ridge — offer wider staircases but steeper rises. In every Swatara neighborhood, the rails bolt to the treads, never the drywall.

1950s Ranch in Lawnton — Straight Oak-Tread Install

Lawnton, PA Installed March 2026

Classic 1954 ranch on a quiet Lawnton street. Dark oak treads, 34-inch stair width, standard rise. Mrs. Miller, 76, had been avoiding the upstairs bathroom for months. The straight rail went in with five bolts through the treads — no drywall touched, no mess. She was riding it before noon.

1990s Colonial in Beaufort Farms — Curved Upper-Landing Turn

Beaufort Farms, PA Installed January 2026

A wide Colonial with a grand staircase that flares at the upper landing — 90-degree turn with two intermediate steps. The chandelier overhead complicated the clearance measurement. Custom rail bent at the factory from laser measurements on site. Brown seat parked neatly at the top floor, out of the hallway.

Compact Cape Cod in Chambers Hill — Stone-Tread Straight Rail

Chambers Hill, PA Installed February 2026

A snug 1950 Cape Cod with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs. The challenge was the tight clearance between the bottom newel post and the furniture. Luis worked the rail placement so the seat folded up without hitting the sideboard. Straight rail, no turns, standard three-hour job.

Outdoor

Outdoor Porch Lift in Rutherford Heights — Weather-Sealed for PA Winters

Rutherford Heights, PA Installed October 2025

Seven stone-paved steps up to a raised front porch. The stone was uneven, so the rail posts needed shimming to sit level. IP55 weather-sealed motor, marine-grade upholstery on the cream-colored seat. Two Dauphin County winters later — through freeze-thaw and a 14-inch snowstorm — the lift runs without a hitch.

Brick Twin in Bressler — Carpeted Straight-Rail Install

Bressler, PA Installed April 2026

1960s brick twin, wall-to-wall beige carpet on the stairs. The carpet was thick — needed a denser bolt anchor to keep the rail posts from compressing the pile over time. Standard straight run, 13 treads. Brown seat matched the carpet tone. Mr. Davis, 72, was up and down the same day.

Common Questions

Everything Swatara Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Swatara Township?

A straight stairlift in Swatara runs from $2,800 installed. Curved lifts start at $9,000 — the price varies with the number of turns and the rail length. Outdoor units start at $4,000. Heavy-duty lifts (600 lb capacity) start at $5,050. Every quote includes the rail, carriage, seat, battery backup, installation, and a 5-year warranty. We don't charge extra for the measurement visit.

What drives the price difference between a straight and curved lift in Swatara homes?

Straight lifts use stock rail sections cut to length on site. Curved lifts need a custom rail — bent at the factory to match your exact stair turn after we laser-measure your staircase. That custom fabrication is what pushes the price to $9,000 and up. Swatara's split-levels in Chambers Hill and Rutherford Heights often need curved rails because the stairs turn at the landing. Brick twins in Bressler and Oberlin have tight 180° switchbacks that also require custom bends.

Can I finance a stairlift in Swatara?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month through a third-party lender. We walk you through the application at the assessment visit — it takes about 10 minutes. Most approvals come back same-day. There's no prepayment penalty.

Are there any hidden costs I should know about for a Swatara install?

No. The quote we give you at the measurement visit is the price you pay. It covers the rail, carriage, seat, battery backup, installation labor, and the 5-year warranty. The only scenario where cost might shift is if we discover structural issues under the treads — loose treads or rot — which sometimes shows up in Swatara's older 1940s homes. But we flag that during the measurement, not on install day.

A word from Luis

I've put lifts into more Swatara Township homes than I can count — and the housing stock here tells a story. Most of what we see in Lawnton and Lenker Manor are 1940s and '50s ranches with solid oak treads and tight 34-inch hallways. Those straight-rail installs go fast — about three hours, five bolts into the treads, nothing touches the drywall. Chambers Hill and Rutherford Heights are trickier because of the split-levels on slopes; you get landing turns where the rail needs a custom bend.

The newer subdivisions — Beaufort Farms, Capital Ridge, Rolling Ridge — have wider staircases but the rise is steeper. Those homeowners tend to call us earlier, when a parent is moving in. And over in Bressler and Oberlin, where the brick twins date to the '60s, we do a lot of curved-rail work because the stairs turn tight at the landing. Every neighborhood's got its own pattern. The one thing that's constant: nobody wants to give up the second floor. They just need the stairs to stop being the thing that keeps them from it.

— Luis Ramírez, Swatara
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Swatara Township has been a working-community anchor east of Harrisburg since 1799 — long enough to see its housing stock evolve from farmhouses to post-war ranches to modern subdivisions. The one constant is the two-story home. Whether you're in a 1950s Lawnton Cape Cod or a newer build in Rolling Ridge, the stairs are central to the floor plan, and they're the first thing to become a barrier when mobility changes.

We serve the whole township — from the Susquehanna riverbank near Steelton out to the Chambers Hill ridge, from Bressler and Oberlin up through Rutherford Heights. If you need a stairlift, call Luis at (717) 564-2551 or reach him at [email protected]. He'll be at your door within two days for a free measurement and quote.
