Stairlift Service Across Prince George's County

Prince George's County, MD

From the mid-century brick colonials and Cape Cods along Riggs Road — where Chillum's residential development took shape in the 1940s and 1950s — to the garden-style apartment conversions and townhomes near Chillum Road and New Hampshire Avenue, our crew has measured staircases across every part of this community. Riggs Park homes have standard straight-run staircases with hardwood or carpeted treads. West Chillum's brick split-levels need curved rails for the mid-landing turn between the entry and upper bedrooms. The Queens Chapel Road corridor has older two-story homes with narrow treads that require precise rail placement. Near the Takoma Park border, the housing stock shifts to larger colonials with wider stairways that simplify installs and accommodate heavy-duty models.

1950s Cape Cod on Riggs Road — straight rail on original hardwood treads

Riggs Road, MD Installed March 2026

A 1952 brick Cape Cod on Riggs Road that the Medina family has owned since 1978. Mr. Medina's hip replacement at MedStar Washington Hospital Center left him unable to manage the 13 hardwood treads to the second-floor bedrooms. We drove out, confirmed the straight run with a laser, and bolted the rail into the original oak treads — solid enough to accept the mounting hardware without reinforcement. The brown-upholstered seat parks flush against the wall at the bottom. Mr. Medina rode to his bedroom the evening of install day and his wife stopped sleeping on the couch.

1960s West Chillum split-level — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

West Chillum, MD Installed February 2026

A 1963 split-level in West Chillum with six steps from the front entry to the living area, a 90-degree landing, then nine more steps to the bedrooms. Mr. Davis has lived in this house since 1989 and refused to move despite his worsening arthritis. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the entry to the upper hallway without stopping, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. One ride, zero transfers. The rail tucks against the inner wall and the passage remains wide enough for foot traffic.

Queens Chapel Road colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Queens Chapel Road, MD Installed January 2026

A 1940s colonial near Queens Chapel Road with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mr. Nguyen is a veteran whose VA provider at the Washington DC VA wrote the HISA prescription. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. Folded, the seat and rail take up 11 inches, leaving 25 inches of clear passage. The grant covered $6,800 of the total cost and Mr. Nguyen was riding the lift by the following afternoon.

Chillum Road home — outdoor lift on concrete front steps

Chillum Road, MD Installed December 2025

A home along Chillum Road with six concrete front steps that get dangerously slippery in the rain. Mr. Patterson had already fallen once last spring and his daughter insisted on a solution before the holidays. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom, ready when he comes home from errands. Every component is UV-stabilized, rated for D.C.-metro freeze-thaw cycles, and carries an IP55 seal against rain, snow, and the heavy summer humidity. The battery backup kept the lift running through a four-hour power outage during a July thunderstorm.

New Hampshire Avenue townhome — straight rail, Maryland Accessible Homes grant

New Hampshire Avenue, MD Installed November 2025

A townhome near New Hampshire Avenue where Mrs. Washington's grandmother qualified for the Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors grant — $25,000 approved through the Prince George's County Housing Office. The grant covered the full cost of a straight rail on the carpeted stairs leading to the upper-floor bedrooms. We measured Monday and installed Wednesday. The swivel seat at the top lets her step off onto the landing facing the hallway. She was riding it by Wednesday evening and stopped sleeping in the downstairs recliner.

Platform Lift

Takoma Park border home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Takoma Park border, MD Installed October 2025

A two-story home near the Takoma Park border where Mr. Grant uses a power wheelchair full-time after a service-connected injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered $6,800 and the Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors program covered the remaining balance. Mr. Grant rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Chillum Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Chillum, MD?

Straight rails in standard Chillum homes — the Cape Cods on Riggs Road, the colonials near Queens Chapel, the townhomes along New Hampshire Avenue — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most split-level landing turns in West Chillum, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and concrete steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Chillum prices different from Silver Spring or Hyattsville?

Equipment prices are the same across Maryland — we do not inflate or discount based on neighborhood or proximity to D.C. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow treads in pre-war Queens Chapel Road homes, split-level landing fabrication in West Chillum, and the reinforced anchoring needed in some garden-apartment conversions with non-standard subfloor framing. Those are baseline specs, not upcharges. We list every line item on the written quote.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home?

Moving costs in Prince George's County — real estate commission, closing costs, packing, new deposits — typically run $25,000 to $45,000 given current D.C.-metro home values. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you've lived in for decades, in the neighborhood you know, near your doctors and your Metro stop. For most Chillum families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing for Chillum homeowners?

Yes. We offer 12-month interest-free financing and extended terms up to 60 months starting at $79 per month for a standard straight install. Approval takes minutes during the in-home visit. We also help you stack financing with VA HISA, Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors, or Prince George's County senior services so you pay the lowest possible out-of-pocket.

A word from Luis

Chillum families usually call after a fall or a hospital stay — a retired government worker whose knees gave out after decades of commuting on Metro, a grandmother in Riggs Park whose daughter in Silver Spring worries about her managing the stairs alone, a veteran near Fort Lincoln who came home from MedStar Washington Hospital Center and couldn't make it to the second floor.

I drive out, measure the staircase, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
