Common Questions

Everything Takoma Park Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

How much does a stairlift cost in Takoma Park?

A straight-rail stairlift starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts, custom-built for the switchbacks in Old Takoma's Victorians, start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for porch steps start at $4,000, and heavy-duty bariatric models start at $5,050. Every price includes the free assessment, rail, seat, installation, and a 5-year warranty.

Why does a curved stairlift cost more in a Takoma Park Victorian?

Many Old Takoma and Historic District homes have a mid-flight turn or switchback at the landing. A curved rail has to be laser-measured and custom-bent off-site to match that exact geometry, which is why curved lifts start at $9,000 versus $2,800 for a straight rail on a simpler staircase.

Does the price change based on how many steps I have?

Not within a standard rail length. A straight staircase in a Hillwood Manor bungalow and one in a Sligo Creek Colonial cost the same when the rail length is similar. Price only rises for a curved rail, an unusually long run, or an outdoor weatherproof install.

Is financing available for a Takoma Park stairlift?

Yes. We offer financing from $79/month with instant approval and no prepayment penalty, including low-APR and 0% options for qualified buyers. Many Takoma Park families combine financing with the VA HISA grant or Maryland's Accessible Homes for Seniors program to lower the out-of-pocket cost.

A word from Luis

Takoma Park is a town of old houses, and I love working in it. In the Historic District you've got 1890s Queen Annes with nine-inch risers and narrow treads. In Hillwood Manor it's 1920s Craftsman bungalows. Up toward Long Branch and Flower Avenue the housing turns to mid-century and multi-family, with tighter turns at the landings.

The constant is that I work around the original woodwork — nothing gets cut, nothing gets damaged. The rail bolts to the stair treads, not the balusters or the plaster walls. When the lift comes out years later, all that's left is a few fillable bolt holes. That's how you put a stairlift in a 130-year-old house and keep it a 130-year-old house.

Luis Ramírez, Takoma Park
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Takoma Park's housing is overwhelmingly historic — Queen Anne Victorians in Old Takoma, Craftsman bungalows in Hillwood Manor, pre-war Colonials along Sligo Creek. A stairlift lets you keep the home you've lived in for decades instead of moving to a single-story rental or assisted living, and it goes in without cutting a single piece of original woodwork.

Call (800) 965-0350 for a free in-home assessment. Funding help is available through the VA HISA grant (Washington DC VA Medical Center, 50 Irving Street NW), Maryland's Community Options Waiver, and the state Accessible Homes for Seniors program, which offers up to $25,000 toward accessibility work.
