Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The standard for Chesapeake’s two-story colonials — from Great Bridge to Greenbrier. Over 65% of the stairlifts we install in Chesapeake are straight rails. A single run bolted into your stair treads (never into the wall), a seat and footrest that fold flat against the rail, and a battery backup that keeps you moving when a nor’easter kills the power. Most Chesapeake installs wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $3,150 installed

Stairlift Service Across Chesapeake County

Chesapeake County, VA

From the brick colonials lining the canals of Great Bridge to the established ranches along Deep Creek, from the newer two-story developments in Greenbrier and Grassfield to the compact post-war homes in South Norfolk, our team has mapped every corridor in this city. We know which Western Branch subdivisions have the 14-step straight run with the tight newel post at the bottom, which Hickory floor plans put the laundry upstairs with no option to relocate it, and which Great Bridge homes have the exterior stone steps where an outdoor rail makes the difference between independence and a fall every winter. Because Chesapeake spans such a wide geography, we also cover the neighboring hubs — Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Suffolk — without additional travel charges.

Dark oak staircase in a 1992 Great Bridge colonial — rail matched to the original banister

Great Bridge, VA Installed March 2026

A two-story Great Bridge colonial with dark hardwood oak stairs and an original banister the family wanted preserved. We brought color swatches on the first visit, matched the beige seat upholstery to complement the warm oak grain, and bolted the rail directly into the treads without touching the banister or wall. The rail practically disappears against the dark hardwood when the seat is parked at the landing. Mr. Henderson’s mother has been riding it twice a day since install — bedroom upstairs, kitchen downstairs.

Curved

90° curved rail in a Western Branch split-level — chair parks at the upper landing

Western Branch, VA Installed February 2026

A 1980s Western Branch split-level with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing and a chandelier that every installer before us said would need to be removed. We digitally scanned the staircase, custom-fabricated a curved rail that threads past the chandelier with two inches of clearance, and mounted the brown upholstered seat so it parks flush at the upper landing. Mrs. Dawson swivels 90 degrees and steps directly onto the hallway floor. The chandelier stayed.

Stone-tread cottage stairs in Hickory — compact rail beside the antique sideboard

Hickory, VA Installed January 2026

A renovated Hickory cottage with stone tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs that Mrs. Whitaker refused to move — it was her grandmother’s. We mounted the brown-upholstered seat on the compact-profile rail, positioned the lower park point so the folded chair clears the sideboard by three inches, and drilled into the stone treads using masonry anchors rated for the weight. The cottage character stayed intact. Her daughter said it looks like it was always there.

Outdoor

Outdoor rail on stone paving at a Deep Creek raised entry

Deep Creek, VA Installed December 2025

The Carters’ Deep Creek home has a raised front entry with stone paving and four exterior steps — not enough for a ramp, too many for Mr. Carter after his hip replacement. We installed the cream-colored outdoor seat on a weather-sealed rail anchored into the stone paving, positioned so he rides from the walkway to the front door in daylight and in the dark (LED courtesy lights on the armrests). The sealed motor housing and stainless fasteners handle the salt air from the nearby Elizabeth River without corrosion. Six months in, zero service calls.

Carpeted stairs in a Greenbrier two-story — swivel seat at the landing

Greenbrier, VA Installed November 2025

A standard Greenbrier two-story with 13 carpeted treads and a residential landing that opens to the upstairs hallway. Mrs. Odom’s concern was stepping off at the top — her balance wasn’t what it used to be. We installed the brown-upholstered seat with the swivel-exit feature so the chair rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing, letting her stand on the hallway carpet instead of the top step. The rail runs along the carpeted treads without bunching or pulling the carpet. Simple install, meaningful safety gain.

Platform Lift

Indoor platform lift with safety edges for a South Norfolk veteran

South Norfolk, VA Installed October 2025

Mr. Briggs is a Navy veteran who uses a power wheelchair and needed access between the main floor and the upstairs bedroom in his South Norfolk home. We installed an inclined platform lift on the indoor stairway with a flat deck and yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides. The platform folds up against the wall when not in use so his wife and grandchildren still walk the stairs normally. The VA HISA grant covered the majority of the cost. He’s made the trip upstairs every night since install without needing to transfer out of his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Chesapeake Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Chesapeake right now?

Straight rails in standard Chesapeake homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common in Western Branch split-levels and Great Bridge colonials with L-shaped staircases — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor models with marine-grade sealing for the salt air run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Chesapeake than Norfolk or Virginia Beach?

Equipment prices are identical across Hampton Roads — we don’t inflate quotes based on zip code. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: salt-air sealing on a waterfront porch, masonry anchoring into stone treads, or historic-district paperwork. We break out every line item upfront. No surprise surcharges.

Do you charge extra for salt-air protection on outdoor installs?

No. Every outdoor install in Chesapeake ships with sealed motor housings, marine-grade rail coating, and stainless-steel fasteners as the standard Hampton Roads spec. The Chesapeake Bay and Elizabeth River salt air corrodes standard powder-coated components within two to three years. We learned that early and made sealed hardware the default, not an add-on.

Any hidden fees for HOA communities in Greenbrier or Grassfield?

Our quote includes the HOA paperwork we handle for you. The Virginia Property Owners’ Association Act and the federal Fair Housing Act require HOAs to approve reasonable accessibility modifications for residents with a documented medical need. We provide the full documentation packet at no extra cost. If the HOA requires an additional engineering letter, we tell you before we start — not after.

A word from Luis

Most Chesapeake families call after a close call on the stairs — a near-fall in a Great Bridge colonial, a Navy retiree in Western Branch whose knees finally gave out, a spouse in Deep Creek who can’t carry groceries to the second floor anymore.

My job is straightforward: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No high-pressure pitch. No hidden line items. I’ve been working Hampton Roads homes for over a decade — I know these floor plans.
