Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The standard for Norfolk’s rowhouses, colonials, and two-story homes. Over 65% of the stairlifts we install in Norfolk are straight rails. The rail bolts into your stair treads (never the wall), the seat folds flat, and the battery backup keeps you moving through nor’easters and hurricane-season outages. Norfolk installs ship with humidity-rated lubricant and a sealed motor housing for the salt-air environment. Most installs wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $3,200 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across Norfolk County

Norfolk County, VA

From the Victorian rowhouses and heart-pine staircases of Ghent to the tree-lined colonials of Colonial Place, from the wartime-era homes in Riverview to the Bay-facing bungalows of Ocean View, from the mid-century homes along Larchmont’s Lafayette River shoreline to the ranch conversions at Ward’s Corner, our crew has installed in every Norfolk neighborhood.

We know which Ghent blocks have the steepest stair pitch in Hampton Roads, which Colonial Place homes have the original banister that cannot be touched, and which Ocean View cottages need an outdoor rail with salt-air sealing. Norfolk borders Portsmouth, Hampton, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach — we cover all of Hampton Roads without additional travel charges.

Dark oak stairs in a Ghent rowhouse — beige seat, original heart-pine preserved

Ghent, VA Installed March 2026

A 1912 Ghent rowhouse with dark hardwood oak stairs, original heart-pine risers, and a hand-turned banister that is part of the neighborhood’s architectural character. Chief Petty Officer Webb (Ret.) was clear: nothing touches the original wood. We matched the beige seat to the warm oak tones, bolted the rail into the treads with backing plates for the century-old timber, and positioned the lower park behind the hallway archway. The rail all but disappears against the dark hardwood when the seat is folded at the bottom landing.

90° curved rail in a Colonial Place colonial — brown seat at the upper landing

Colonial Place, VA Installed February 2026

A 1924 Colonial Place colonial with an L-shaped staircase, a 90-degree turn at the upper landing, and a chandelier that has hung in the foyer since the house was built. We digitally scanned the geometry, custom-fabricated a curved rail that threads past the chandelier with two inches of clearance, and mounted the brown-upholstered seat so it parks flush at the upper landing. Cmdr. Davenport (Ret.) swivels 90 degrees and steps directly onto the hallway hardwood. The HISA grant through the Hampton VA covered most of the cost.

Stone-tile treads in a Larchmont cottage — compact rail beside the sideboard

Larchmont, VA Installed January 2026

A renovated 1940s Larchmont cottage on the Lafayette River with stone tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs — a piece Mrs. Redmond’s husband built before his last deployment. We mounted the brown-upholstered seat on the compact-profile rail, positioned the lower park so the folded chair clears the sideboard by three inches, and drilled into the stone using masonry anchors. The cottage character is intact. Her daughter said it looks like it was always part of the house.

Outdoor rail on stone paving at an Ocean View raised bungalow entry

Ocean View, VA Installed December 2025

The Phillips’ Ocean View bungalow has a raised entry with stone paving and four exterior steps facing the Chesapeake Bay — full salt-air exposure year-round. We installed the cream-colored outdoor seat on a marine-grade epoxy-coated rail with 316-stainless fasteners, added a weather hood over the joystick, and tested the unit through a November Bay-front squall. Retired Master Chief Phillips has ridden it through two nor’easters and the entire Hampton Roads winter. The rail shows zero corrosion.

Carpeted stairs in a Ward’s Corner two-story — swivel seat at the landing

Ward's Corner, VA Installed November 2025

A 1960s Ward’s Corner ranch that got a second-story addition in the 1990s, with 14 carpeted treads and a residential landing at the top. Mrs. Grant’s biggest concern was stepping off at the top — her husband had fallen there two years ago. We installed the brown-upholstered seat with the swivel-exit feature so the chair rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing, letting her stand on the hallway carpet instead of the top step. The rail runs along the carpet without bunching or pulling the pile.

Platform Lift

Indoor platform lift with yellow safety edges for a Riverview Navy veteran

Riverview, VA Installed October 2025

Mr. Hawkins served 28 years in the Navy and uses a power wheelchair after a service-connected spinal injury. His Riverview home has an indoor stairway between the main floor and the upstairs bedrooms. We installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck and yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides. The platform folds against the wall when not in use so his wife and grandchildren walk the stairs normally. The Hampton VA processed his HISA and SAH grants together, covering the full cost. He’s slept in his own bedroom every night since install day.

Common Questions

Everything Norfolk Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Norfolk right now?

Straight rails in standard Norfolk homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — needed for Colonial Place L-shaped landings and Ghent Victorian turns — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured. Outdoor models with marine-grade salt-air sealing run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Do you charge extra for salt-air protection?

No. Every outdoor install in Norfolk ships with marine-grade epoxy rail coating, 316-stainless fasteners, sealed motor housings, and a weather hood as the Hampton Roads default. Norfolk is surrounded by salt water on three sides. Standard powder-coated hardware corrodes within two years here. Our marine-grade spec is the baseline, not an upcharge.

Are prices higher in Ghent or Colonial Place?

No. Equipment and labor pricing is identical across every Norfolk neighborhood. What varies slightly is install time for unusual conditions: backing-plate reinforcement on pre-1920 treads, steep-pitch mounting in narrow Ghent rowhouses, or masonry anchoring into stone treads. Every item is on the written quote.

My spouse is active-duty Navy. Are there any discounts?

We don’t inflate our prices to create fake discounts. What we do provide — at no charge — is HISA grant paperwork assistance for eligible veterans and retirees, and full coordination with the Hampton VA Medical Center for the grant process. For active-duty families, Tricare does not cover stairlifts, but the HISA grant is available for service-connected disabilities and we help you file.

A word from Luis

Norfolk is a Navy town, and most of my calls come from Navy families — a retired chief in Ghent whose knees gave out, an officer’s widow in Colonial Place who can’t do the stairs after a hip replacement, a dependent in Ocean View calling for a parent who served 30 years and won’t ask for help.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. The Hampton VA is 20 minutes north and I’ve processed more HISA grants for Norfolk addresses than any other city in Virginia.
