Stairlift Service Across Hampton County

Hampton County, VA

From the Phoebus Historic District, where 1920s bungalows have steep narrow stairs with upper-landing turns that only a custom curved rail can handle, to the Buckroe Beach waterfront, where raised porches and salt air demand marine-grade coated rails and stainless fasteners, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in Hampton. We know which Wythe colonials have the original oak treads that need tread-only mounting, which Fox Hill cottages have exposed fieldstone walls that rule out wall brackets entirely, and which Northampton and Old North Hampton split-levels from the 1960s need the full curved-rail fabrication for their mid-landing turns.

Straight

Wythe colonial — straight rail on original oak treads overlooking the bay

Wythe, VA Installed February 2026

A 1958 colonial in Wythe with a straight run of 14 steps on original red oak treads that Mrs. Tanner had refinished twice and was not going to let anyone damage a third time. We bolted the rail directly into the treads without touching the painted pine banister or the plaster walls. The chair parks flush against the wall at the bottom so the hallway to the kitchen stays clear. She's been sleeping in her own bedroom again every night since.

1920s Phoebus bungalow — curved rail past the upper landing turn

Phoebus, VA Installed January 2026

A 1924 bungalow in the Phoebus Historic District with steep, narrow stairs that dog-leg left at the upper landing before opening into the second-floor hallway. Mr. Dawson is a retired Navy chief who walks with a cane after two hip surgeries. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads the 90-degree turn at the top within the existing 32-inch width, and added a swivel-exit seat so he steps off onto the hallway floor instead of balancing on the top tread. The framed art on the stairway wall stayed exactly where it was.

Fox Hill cottage — straight rail on stone-walled staircase

Fox Hill, VA Installed December 2025

A 1940s cottage in Fox Hill with an enclosed staircase flanked by exposed stone walls — the original fieldstone that gives these older coastal Hampton homes their character. The compact space had a wooden sideboard at the bottom of the stairs and a potted plant that Mrs. Jennings refused to move. We tread-mounted the entire rail using stainless steel fasteners rated for coastal humidity, kept the chair tight to the wall so the sideboard stays in place, and ran wiring through surface conduit rather than chasing it into century-old plaster. She was back in her upstairs bedroom the same night we finished.

Buckroe Beach raised porch — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone paving

Buckroe Beach, VA Installed November 2025

A raised front porch on a Buckroe Beach bungalow with seven exterior stone-paved steps leading up from the driveway. Mr. Patterson is a Vietnam-era veteran enrolled at the Hampton VA Medical Center on Emancipation Drive. He qualified for the HISA grant — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103, and the grant covered the bulk of the cost. The cream-colored weather-sealed seat is bolted into the stone paving, sealed against salt air and Chesapeake humidity, with a marine-grade epoxy rail coating because Buckroe is less than a quarter mile from the waterfront. It ran through hurricane season 2025 without a service call.

Northampton ranch — straight rail on wall-to-wall carpeted stairs

Northampton, VA Installed October 2025

A 1970s ranch in Northampton with a carpeted staircase running from the front foyer up to three bedrooms. The plush carpet had been hiding a loose tread for years before Mrs. Caldwell's fall. We bolted the rail through the carpet and pad directly into the subfloor, anchored every bracket with lag screws, and confirmed the brown-upholstered chair clears the wall-mounted handrail on the opposite side with four inches to spare. The carpet was not cut, not pulled, and not damaged. The chair blends with the carpet tones so well her daughter said it looks like it came with the house.

Platform Lift

Old North Hampton split-level — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Old North Hampton, VA Installed September 2025

A 1965 split-level in Old North Hampton where Mr. Rivera uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury sustained during service at Fort Eustis. The half-flight between the living area and the lower den was unreachable. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, bright yellow high-visibility safety edges along the perimeter, a white handrail, and interlocked upper and lower gates. The orange-toned stairway walls and window give the space natural light. The HISA grant through the Hampton VA Medical Center covered the full installation. Mr. Rivera rolls onto the platform and rides the incline to the lower level independently — no transfer, no assistance.

Common Questions

Everything Hampton Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Hampton right now?

Straight rails in standard Hampton homes — the Wythe colonials, the Northampton ranches, the Fox Hill cottages — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Phoebus bungalow landings, split-level turns, and pre-war staircase geometry run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact measurements. Outdoor models for raised Buckroe porches and stone entry steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does the price change depending on which Hampton neighborhood I'm in?

Equipment pricing is identical whether you're in Buckroe Beach or Fox Hill. What can vary slightly is install labor: threading a curved rail through a narrow 1920s Phoebus staircase takes more fabrication time than bolting a straight rail in a 1970s Northampton ranch. Marine-grade rail coating for homes within two miles of the waterfront — Buckroe, Phoebus, lower Wythe — is included standard on every coastal install. We don't charge a 'waterfront premium.'

How does Hampton pricing compare to Norfolk or Newport News?

Identical. We cover all of Hampton Roads from one operations team — Hampton, Norfolk, Newport News, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake. No travel surcharge inside the Hampton Roads metro. The only variable is staircase complexity, not your ZIP code.

Are there any hidden fees for older Phoebus or Fox Hill homes?

No hidden fees. Interior stairlift installs are outside the Phoebus Historic District review board's scope — they only review exterior modifications visible from the street. Marine-grade coating for coastal homes is included at no extra charge on every waterfront-area install. The quote is the quote.

A word from Luis

Most Hampton families call me after a parent stops going upstairs in one of those 1950s ranches off Mercury Boulevard — or after a fall on the narrow treads in a Phoebus bungalow that's been in the family since Korea.

Hampton is a military town. Half my calls come from veterans who already know about HISA but can't get the paperwork moving. I drive to your house, measure your stairs, and if you're a vet, I bring VA Form 10-0103 already half filled out. One visit. One price. Honored for 30 days. The Hampton VA Medical Center is eight minutes from my truck. En español si lo prefiere.
