Expert Stairlift Installation in Bernards, NJ

Bernards Township is where the corporate money settled in Somerset County — Fedders, Hitachi Power Systems USA, and Verizon Wireless keep headquarters here, with Verizon occupying the old AT&T world headquarters buildings, and the median household income runs around $123,285. That wealth doesn't change what a staircase does to an aging homeowner, and the township's housing stock is a genuine mix: center-hall Colonials spread thin across 24.33 square miles in the Somerset Hills (just 422 housing units per square mile as of 2010), plus older homes standing near the Franklin Corners Historic District and the c.1809 Brick Academy in Basking Ridge. We've put stairlifts into both the newer construction and the older places where the stairs were framed for a different century.

Basking Ridge Colonial — straight rail on original oak treads

Basking Ridge, NJ Installed March 2026

A center-hall Colonial on South Finley Avenue with 14 original oak treads and a mahogany banister Mr. Gentry's father installed in the 1970s. Mrs. Gentry had slept in the family-room recliner for a month after hip surgery at Morristown Medical Center. We laser-measured the 15-foot straight run, confirmed the solid oak treads accept the mounting hardware, and installed the same week.

Stairlift Service Across Somerset County

Somerset County, NJ

From the center-hall Colonials in Basking Ridge — 18th-century-style homes lining South Finley Avenue — to the farmhouse conversions and newer builds in Liberty Corner, our crew has measured staircases across every part of Bernards Township. The 1960s split-levels along Stonehouse Road need curved rails for their mid-landing turns. Mine Brook raised ranches take standard straight runs in under four hours. The historic homes near the Lyons VA campus on Knollcroft Road often have narrow enclosed stairs and original hardwood treads. Newer cul-de-sacs in the Hills of Basking Ridge and the wooded lots in West Millington round out the residential mix.

Common Questions

Everything Bernards Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost for a home in Bernards Township?

Straight-rail stairlifts for the township's newer Colonials, where the stairs run in one flight with no turn, sit in the lower half of the national price range. A curved rail for one of the older homes near Franklin Corners or Basking Ridge center, where the staircase bends partway up, costs more because the rail has to be custom-built to that specific curve. We price per stairway after a walkthrough or photos, not off a phone call.

Does Bernards' median income change the price homeowners pay?

No — the price is set by the stairway, not the ZIP code or the $123,285 median household income. What the income level does change is how people pay for it: with only 2.9% of residents below the poverty line, most Bernards homeowners we work with pay out of pocket rather than leaning on county or state assistance programs to close a funding gap.

Can a reconditioned stairlift save money on a Bernards install?

For a straight staircase in one of the township's newer homes, yes — a reconditioned straight-rail unit holds up well and costs less. For a curved staircase in one of the older homes near the Brick Academy or Franklin Corners, it's a harder sell, because a used curved rail rarely matches an existing bend closely enough to reuse.

A word from Luis
I get a fair number of calls from Bernards Township that come in already researched — makes sense in a town with this income level, people compare quotes before they compare installers. What actually varies here isn't the money, it's the house: the low-density lots around Basking Ridge tend to have wider stairwells with real headroom, while a few of the older homes near Franklin Corners have narrower runs that take more careful measuring. Either way, the Somerset Hills terrain outside doesn't factor into the install — it's what's inside the stairwell that decides the job.
