Expert Stairlift Installation in Vandalia, OH

Vandalia's 2020 census put 20.1% of residents at 65 or older, with a median age of 42.3 — a legacy of the Delphi Automotive plant, later run by Mahle Behr, that operated here from the 1930s until it closed in 2015. Much of the housing near that old plant is the same era: two-story homes with narrow stairwells built for the families who worked the line. Those are exactly the staircases where a straight or curved stairlift solves a problem the builders never planned for.

Straight

Crestwood Hills — straight rail on original oak treads

Crestwood Hills, OH Installed March 2026

The Mitchells' 1965 ranch in Crestwood Hills had oak treads running straight from the living room to the bedrooms. Luis measured the 13-foot flight, and the beige rail bolted to the treads with no wall work — seat parked at the bottom landing. Three hours from truck to test ride. Mr. Mitchell went upstairs alone for the first time since his hip replacement.

Edgewood — curved rail at the upper landing

Edgewood, OH Installed May 2026

The Reeves' 1972 split-level in Edgewood had a 90-degree turn at the upper landing with a half-wall and chandelier above. Luis laser-scanned the turn, the curved rail was fabricated off-site, and it hugs the half-wall on the landing curve. The brown seat parks at the top, out of the downstairs walkway. Mr. Reeves uses it three times a day now.

Cassel Hills — compact straight rail on stone treads

Cassel Hills, OH Installed April 2026

The Wagners' compact 1958 home in Cassel Hills had narrow stone-tread stairs beside a built-in sideboard. At 32 inches wide, the staircase needed the SlimLine rail, which mounts closer to the wall. The stone treads took bolt anchors cleanly, no cracking, and the sideboard never moved. Install took three hours. Mrs. Wagner, 78, now reaches her sewing room upstairs without help.

Dixie Highway corridor — weather-sealed outdoor lift on a stone porch

Dixie Highway corridor, OH Installed February 2026

The Hartmans' home off the Dixie Highway corridor has a rough-stone front porch with four steps up from the driveway, and Ohio winters meant ice on those stone steps every January. Luis installed an IP55-rated outdoor straight rail with a marine-grade seat cover, anchored into the stone — no concrete pour. Mr. Hartman, a retired engineer, uses the lift year-round; rain, snow, or July humidity, the seat cover keeps the upholstery dry.

Stonequarry — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Stonequarry, OH Installed June 2026

The Collins' newer home in Stonequarry came with standard-width carpeted stairs — beige pile that matched the stairlift seat. Straight flight, 12 feet, no turns. The rail mounted through the carpet with extended bolts, and the carpet compressed cleanly under the brackets without bunching. Three and a half hours start to finish. Mrs. Collins, 72, was back upstairs to the guest bedrooms the same afternoon.

Platform Lift

Timberwind — indoor wheelchair platform lift

Timberwind, OH Installed January 2026

The Kowalskis' home in Timberwind has a straight staircase, but Mr. Kowalski uses a wheelchair full-time after a spinal injury. Luis installed the indoor inclined platform lift: flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail, 600-pound capacity. The platform folds up when not in use, leaving the stairs clear for the family. Battery-backed for Ohio outages. Mr. Kowalski now reaches his bedroom independently for the first time in three years.

Stairlift Service Across Montgomery County

Montgomery County, OH

We install across every corner of Vandalia, the I-70/I-75 crossroads city in Montgomery County. Crestwood Hills holds mid-century ranches where straight staircases run main floor to basement — our most common install. Edgewood has 1960s split-levels with short, steep flights that need custom rail measurements. Stonequarry and Cassel Hills are newer subdivisions where builders left standard-width staircases that tight-fit rails handle cleanly. Timberwind has established ranch homes with oak-tread stairs and wider landings. Near Helke Park, compact 1950s capes and bungalows keep us busy with space-conscious straight-rail fits, while older homes along the Dixie Highway corridor on larger lots often need outdoor lifts for porch-to-driveway access.

Common Questions

Everything Vandalia Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift typically cost for a Vandalia home?

It depends on whether the staircase is straight or has a landing/turn — curved rail costs more than straight rail because it's custom-built to the stairs. Vandalia's older housing stock (the city had 7,091 housing units as of the 2020 count, many built during the Delphi plant era) tends to have more turned staircases than newer construction, so get a specific measurement before you budget off a national average you saw online.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift a realistic way to cut the price in Vandalia?

For straight staircases, sometimes — a refurbished straight rail can work if the length matches. For the older turned staircases common in Vandalia's original village-era streets, a used curved rail almost never fits a different house; curved rail is bent to the exact stairs it was built for.

Does Medicare or homeowners insurance pay for any of it?

No. Original Medicare doesn't cover stairlifts as durable medical equipment, and homeowners insurance doesn't either. In Montgomery County the realistic paths are PASSPORT (Ohio's Medicaid waiver, if you're 60+ and meet the income/asset limits) or a home-modification grant like the county's CDBG/ODOD program — covered below.

A word from Luis
I've put lifts in on both sides of Vandalia — the older grid close to where Benjamin Wilhelm's original 1838 settlement sat, and the newer streets that went in after the city became a Charter City in 1960. The 1838-era neighborhoods tend to have steeper, narrower runs than what you'd find in a subdivision built in the 90s, so measuring the stairwell before we quote anything matters more here than in a lot of towns I work.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Vandalia sits at the crossroads of Ohio — I-70 and I-75, the airport, the old National Road. The homes here were built for working families between the 1950s and 1970s, and those staircases have carried three generations now. A stairlift keeps the house working for the generation that built it.

Whether you're in a Crestwood Hills ranch, an Edgewood split-level, or a newer build in Stonequarry, we do one thing: get you up and down your stairs safely. Free in-home assessment, no pressure, same-day install on most straight rails. Call (800) 965-0350 or fill out the form — Luis handles every Vandalia assessment himself.
