Stairlift Service Across Alameda County

Alameda County, CA

San Lorenzo Village is the original 1944 core — 5,767 single-family homes under the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association, mostly single-story ranch layouts with hardwood treads hidden under decades of carpet. The streets — Via Alamitos, Via Del Robles, Paseo Grande — still have the original sycamores the developer planted 80 years ago. Lorenzo Manor, tucked near Bengal Street and the elementary school, has a mix of original ranch homes and later two-story additions where curved-rail installs are common. Hayward Acres sits a mile southeast near the executive airport — slightly larger lots, some mid-century split-levels. The Hesperian Boulevard corridor runs commercial but the residential streets branching west toward the San Lorenzo Creek have compact 1940s cottages with narrow stairwells.

Straight

Original Oak Treads, Straight Rail, San Lorenzo Village

San Lorenzo Village, CA Installed March 2026

One of the original 1944 Bohannon ranch homes — 12 oak treads hidden under beige carpet from the 1980s. The Kowalskis pulled the carpet back before we arrived. Luis bolted the straight rail directly into the hardwood treads, plugged into the hallway outlet, and had Mrs. Kowalski testing the ride by 11am. The beige seat matched the wall color almost exactly — they joked it looked original to the house.

90-Degree Turn at Upper Landing, Lorenzo Manor

Lorenzo Manor, CA Installed January 2026

Late-1990s addition built over the garage — a 90-degree turn at the top where the new second floor meets the original ranch roofline. Five steps up, a small landing, then the turn into a short upper flight. The brown seat parks at the upstairs hallway under a brass chandelier the Chens kept from the previous owner. Curved rail was factory-bent from Luis's laser measurements — no on-site bending needed.

Stone-Tread Cottage, Straight Rail, Hesperian Corridor

Hesperian Boulevard Area, CA Installed February 2026

Compact 1946 cottage on a residential street branching west off Hesperian. Stone tile treads — unusual for San Lorenzo, likely a 1960s remodel — with a wooden sideboard at the base. Luis took extra care with the stone: carbide drill bit, slower speed, no cracks. The brown seat tucks next to the sideboard when folded up. Mrs. Gutierrez stops halfway to check the mail through the front-door window on every ride up.

Outdoor

Outdoor Porch Lift, Raised Foundation, Lewelling Boulevard

Lewelling Boulevard Area, CA Installed October 2025

Raised-foundation ranch on a large lot near Meek Estate Park — five concrete porch steps with rough stone paving at the entry, exposed to Bay Area winter rain. The cream outdoor seat got the full weather treatment: IP55 sealing, marine-grade fasteners, UV-stabilized upholstery. The Nakamuras added the weather cover. Mrs. Nakamura uses it daily to get down to her garden along San Lorenzo Creek.

Carpeted Stairs, Tile Landing, Paseo Grande Home

Paseo Grande Area, CA Installed December 2025

Mid-1950s ranch — one of the later Village builds — with beige carpeted stairs that had worn through on every tread nose. The brown seat matched the carpet tone close enough that Mr. Williams said it looked like someone planned it. Tiled floor at the base landing gave us a clean surface for the lower bracket. Mrs. Williams can now reach the upstairs bathroom without her daughter walking beside her.

Platform Lift

Indoor Wheelchair Platform Lift, Hayward Acres

Hayward Acres, CA Installed August 2025

Mr. Davis uses a manual wheelchair after a spinal injury — the stairs in his Hayward Acres split-level made the upper floor unusable. We installed the inclined platform lift on the 11-step straight run: flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail. He rolls on at the bottom, presses and holds the joystick, and rides up. The deck folds against the wall when the rest of the family uses the stairs.

Common Questions

Everything San Lorenzo Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in San Lorenzo?

Straight-rail installs in San Lorenzo Village homes start at $2,800, including the rail, seat, installation, and a 5-year warranty. Curved rails — which are custom-bent to your specific stair turn after an on-site laser measurement — start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts for porch steps start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models with a 600 lb capacity start at $5,050. All pricing includes battery backup, which matters here — Bay Area winter storm outages are common enough that you want the lift running when the power's out.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in the Bay Area?

The rail itself is the cost driver. A straight rail is pre-cut aluminum. A curved rail is custom-bent at the factory to match your exact stair geometry — every landing, every turn, every angle. That requires a 1-hour laser measurement in your San Lorenzo home, then 4-6 weeks of fabrication. The Bay Area labor rate for the measurement and install is also higher than national averages. But once it arrives, installation takes a single day.

Are there any hidden fees I should know about in San Lorenzo?

No. The quote Luis gives you at the assessment is the number you pay. There's no permit fee — San Lorenzo is unincorporated Alameda County, and indoor stairlifts don't require building permits. No HOA fees from the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association either — CC&Rs don't cover interior mobility equipment. The only variable is if we discover rotted treads during install. If that happens, we pause, show you, and you decide — zero pressure.

Can I finance a stairlift in San Lorenzo?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month. We offer 0% APR for 12 months and extended-term options for up to 60 months. The application takes about 10 minutes online — instant approval in most cases. We also help with Medi-Cal EAA paperwork and VA HISA grant applications if you qualify, which can cover the full cost.

A word from Luis

San Lorenzo Village homes are a specific animal. David Bohannon built most of them between 1944 and the early 1950s — single-story ranch layouts, 2 or 3 bedrooms, tight staircases in the split-level additions people added later on. The original homes have hardwood treads underneath whatever carpet got put down in the 70s. I've measured rails on Via Alamitos, on Paseo Grande, over in Lorenzo Manor — they're all basically the same bone structure. The curved jobs are always the later additions, usually where someone built out over the garage.

The thing about working in an unincorporated area: no city hall to deal with for permits. That actually simplifies things. The San Lorenzo Village Homes Association keeps the CC&Rs, but indoor stairlifts don't trigger anything. The Bay Fair BART is a 15-minute walk from most homes, which matters when a family member commutes in to check on mom. Meek Estate Park is my favorite local landmark — I tell homeowners that if their 1880s mansion is still standing through every earthquake since the Loma Prieta, their ranch home is a fine candidate for a rail install.

— Luis Ramírez, San Lorenzo
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

San Lorenzo Village has outlasted every housing trend since 1944 for good reason — the streets are walkable, the BART is close, and the homes were built solid. If your stairs are the one thing keeping you or a family member from using the whole house, a rail install solves that in about three hours on most of these ranch layouts. Straight rails bolt to the treads, plug into a standard outlet, and the battery backup keeps the lift running through the Bay Area's winter storm outages.

Luis runs every San Lorenzo assessment himself. He knows which homes off Hesperian have the steepest stair pitch, which Lorenzo Manor additions need a custom-bent curved rail, and how to get VA paperwork through the Oakland VA Clinic on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Call or fill out the form — he'll show up, measure, and give you a real number on the spot.
