Stairlift Service Across Alameda County

Alameda County, CA

In Estudillo Estates, we work with California bungalows and Mediterranean Revivals from the 1920s — narrow stairs, original Douglas fir or oak treads, homeowners who want zero visible damage. In Broadmoor, early-1900s Craftsman homes have steep, sometimes irregular treads from a century of foundation settling — we shim rail brackets to compensate. Washington Manor near Bay Fair BART is postwar ranch territory — many homes have second-story additions that created stairs the original plan never included, typically the widest, easiest installs we do. Mulford Gardens mixes Tudor Revival with midcentury contemporary — Tudor homes occasionally have curved staircases needing custom rails, while the ranches go straight. We also cover Ashland, San Lorenzo, Cherryland, Castro Valley, and Fairview — all within 15 minutes, zero travel fee.

1928 Estudillo Estates bungalow — straight rail on original Douglas fir treads

Estudillo Estates, CA Installed March 2026

A 1928 California bungalow in Estudillo Estates with original Douglas fir treads, a painted spindle banister, and a homeowner who made her position clear: this house was here before I was born and it will be here after I'm gone — don't wreck it. Mrs. Nakamura is 81 and had been scooting down the stairs on her backside every morning for three months after a hip replacement at Kaiser San Leandro. We specified the slim-profile rail — critical for the 32-inch stair width in these 1920s bungalows — and bolted into the treads only. The beige seat folds flat and clears the narrow passage so her home health aide can walk past. The fir treads show four small pilot holes per bracket, invisible under the rail. Everything else is untouched.

Mulford Gardens Tudor Revival — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

Mulford Gardens, CA Installed February 2026

A 1937 Tudor Revival in Mulford Gardens with a staircase that sweeps up 10 treads, turns 90 degrees at the upper landing, and deposits you in a narrow hallway. The staircase is the visual centerpiece of the house — arched plaster opening, wrought-iron railing, original hardwood. Two other companies said they couldn't do the turn without damaging the plaster arch. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a single curved rail that threads under the arch with two inches of clearance, and installed a swivel-exit seat so Mr. Reyes steps off onto the hallway floor. The brown-upholstered seat is parked at the upper landing. Mr. Reyes has Parkinson's and his balance is unpredictable — eliminating the top-tread dismount was the single most important safety factor.

Broadmoor Craftsman — compact straight rail on stone-tile treads beside the entry hutch

Broadmoor, CA Installed January 2026

A 1912 Craftsman in the Broadmoor district with stone-tile treads on the lower half-flight from the entry to the main living level. The compact staircase has a wooden sideboard against the wall at the bottom landing and a potted plant on the entry table — tight quarters with furniture tucked against every surface. Standard wood-screw brackets won't hold in stone, so we used chemical-set concrete anchors for the stone section, transitioned to standard mounting on the wood treads above, and ran a single continuous rail over both surfaces. The brown-upholstered seat matches the earthy tone of the stone treads and folds compact enough that Mr. Chen can still reach his entry hutch without moving it. He is 79 and had been entering through the back door for eight months to avoid those stone steps. He walks in through his own front door now.

Outdoor

Washington Manor — outdoor lift on stone-paver porch entry with cream seat

Washington Manor, CA Installed December 2025

A 1952 ranch in Washington Manor with a raised front entry, seven exterior stone-paver steps, and a concrete landing. Mrs. Gonzalez is 77 and her daughter was driving over twice a day to help her mother up and down those steps. We mounted an outdoor straight rail on the stone paving with stainless anchors, sealed the motor housing to IP55, and fitted a cream UV-resistant seat that blends with the home's stucco exterior. The carpeted outdoor tread at the bottom provides a non-slip surface at ground level. The salt air from the Bay reaches San Leandro, so every fastener is stainless steel — zinc-plated hardware corrodes in two seasons. Luis conducted the entire assessment and walkthrough in Spanish at the family's request.

Floresta Gardens ranch — straight rail on carpeted stairs from a 1980s addition

Floresta Gardens, CA Installed November 2025

A 1955 ranch in Floresta Gardens where a 1980s second-story addition put the master bedroom upstairs — stairs that didn't exist in the original floor plan and that Mrs. Williams has climbed every day for 40 years. After a fall on the carpeted treads last September, her orthopedist at Eden Medical Center told her flat out: use the stairs with a lift or don't use them at all. The carpet-covered treads are a warm brown tone, and the brown-upholstered seat blends right in. We mounted the rail through the carpet into the plywood subfloor — the carpet stays intact around the brackets, no re-stretching, no seams. Mrs. Williams rides up every evening and down every morning. The chair folds against the wall and the grandchildren run past it without a second look.

Platform Lift

Bay Fair area home — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Bay Fair, CA Installed October 2025

A split-level home near the Bay Fair BART station where Mr. Patel uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal cord injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he cannot transfer out of the chair. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges on all four sides, a white handrail along the wall, and automatic ramp deployment at both levels. The warm-toned walls of the stairway frame the lift against the indoor setting. The lift runs on a standard 120V outlet — no pit excavation, no shaft construction, no structural modification. Mr. Patel's VA care coordinator at VA Palo Alto approved the HISA grant covering $6,800 of the cost, and the Alameda County Veterans Service Office assisted with the supplemental paperwork. He rolls from the living room to the upstairs bedrooms without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything San Leandro Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in San Leandro right now?

Straight rails — the standard for Estudillo Estates bungalows, Washington Manor ranches, and Floresta Gardens homes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Tudor staircases in Mulford Gardens, Craftsman turns in Broadmoor, and second-story additions with bends run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts for raised front entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are San Leandro prices higher because of Bay Area labor costs?

Equipment prices are the same across California — we don't inflate quotes for East Bay ZIP codes. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: chemical-set anchors for stone-tile treads in Broadmoor Craftsman homes, slim-profile models for the narrow 32-inch staircases in pre-1940 Estudillo Estates bungalows, or CSLB-licensed electrical work for homes without an outlet near the staircase. We itemize everything on the written quote. No surprise Bay Area premium.

Do you charge a travel fee anywhere in Alameda County?

No. San Leandro, Ashland, San Lorenzo, Cherryland, Castro Valley, Fairview, and Hayward — zero travel fee. We also cover Oakland, Fremont, and most of Alameda County without a surcharge because our East Bay installer is based in the area, not driving down from Sacramento.

A $3,500 stairlift vs. selling my home — how does the math work?

The median home price in San Leandro is over $800,000. A single-story replacement in the same ZIP starts well above $900,000. A straight stairlift installed in your existing home runs $2,800 to $5,500 — roughly 0.4% of your home's value. For most San Leandro homeowners on fixed incomes, the stairlift lets you stay in a home you already own rather than trading into a market where your equity barely covers the down payment on a smaller place.

A word from Luis

San Leandro families usually call after something specific — a stumble on the narrow stairs in a 1940s Broadmoor bungalow, a parent discharged from Kaiser San Leandro or Eden Medical Center who can't manage the steps, a son in San Francisco worried about his mother alone in the Estudillo Estates house she's owned for 40 years. My approach is simple: I drive to your home, measure the staircase, and leave a written price that's good for 30 days. No high-pressure close. No upsell.

If you're a veteran using VA Palo Alto or the Alameda County Veterans Service Office, I bring the HISA grant paperwork with me. En español si lo prefiere.
