A standard straight-rail job is usually done in a single day. Eichler homes and other split-level layouts sometimes take longer because the post-and-beam framing changes where we can anchor the rail, and curved track has to be custom-fit anyway. Either way, the rail bolts to the stair treads, not the wall.
No structural changes are needed — the rail attaches to the treads themselves.
