Stairlift Service Across Roanoke County

Roanoke County, VA

From the steep Victorian staircases of Old Southwest — heart-pine treads, hand-turned banisters, millwork homeowners treat as irreplaceable — to the hillside bungalows of Grandin where outdoor porch lifts outnumber indoor installs, our team has mapped every staircase geometry the Roanoke Valley produces. South Roanoke generates the highest percentage of curved-rail installs in the metro. Raleigh Court and Wasena are our fastest jobs: standard mid-century construction, split-level landing turns, and raised ranch entries. Garden City, Riverland, Hunting Hills, and the Cave Spring corridor in Roanoke County are covered from the same local team.

1895 Old Southwest Victorian — rail color-matched to original heart-pine treads on hardwood

Old Southwest, VA Installed March 2026

A 1895 Queen Anne on Mountain Avenue with original heart-pine treads and a hand-turned walnut banister that four generations of Crawfords have preserved. Mrs. Crawford's first instruction was the same as every Old Southwest homeowner: 'Don't touch that banister.' We brought finish samples, matched the rail to the heart-pine grain, drilled pilot holes at a slow speed to prevent splitting in the 130-year-old wood, and bolted the track along the inside wall. The rail disappears when parked at the landing. Her neighbors on the historic home tour walked past it without a second glance.

South Roanoke hillside home — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

South Roanoke, VA Installed February 2026

A 1958 two-story on a hillside lot in South Roanoke with a 90° turn at the upper landing — a layout the builder used to fit the mountain terrain. Mr. Bennett is a retired Norfolk Southern engineer who spent 38 years on the railroad. His back no longer handles the turn. We scanned the staircase, fabricated a single curved rail, and installed in an afternoon. The chair parks at the upper landing and swivels for a safe hallway exit. The cold-weather battery has kept it running through every January cold snap since.

1952 Raleigh Court ranch — compact rail beside the original wooden built-in

Raleigh Court, VA Installed January 2026

A 1952 ranch in Raleigh Court with stone-tile treads and an original wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs. Mrs. Patterson has lived in the house since 1969 and was firm: nothing gets moved, nothing gets scratched. We mounted the slim-profile rail along the wall side, cleared the sideboard with room to spare, and added a folding footrest so the chair tucks flat when parked beside the furniture. She qualified for CCC Plus — the state paid the provider directly. The traditional, cozy interior stays completely intact.

Grandin hillside entry — cold-weather outdoor lift on front porch steps

Grandin, VA Installed December 2025

A 1930s bungalow in Grandin with a steep hillside lot and stone-paved exterior stairs from the driveway to the front porch — 11 steps up a southwest-facing slope that catches the worst Blue Ridge winter winds. Mr. Williams is a Vietnam veteran who qualified for the HISA grant through Salem VAMC. We mounted a cream-seat outdoor lift with cold-weather battery rated to -20°F, freeze-thaw gasket kit, and marine-grade rail coating for the mountain moisture. It has run through two Roanoke winters — ice, snow, and single-digit temps — without a service call.

Wasena two-story — straight rail on carpeted stairs with swivel-exit at the top

Wasena, VA Installed November 2025

A 1960s two-story in Wasena with 14 carpeted treads and a landing that opens onto the upstairs hallway. Mrs. Fletcher's biggest concern wasn't the ride — it was stepping off at the top, where her husband had fallen the previous winter. We used extended mounting bolts that penetrate through the thick carpet pad into the subfloor for a rock-solid mount. The brown upholstery matches the carpet tone, and the power-swivel seat rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing so she stands on the hallway floor, not the top step. Her CCC Plus Care Coordinator wrote the stairlift into the plan and the state paid the provider directly.

Platform Lift

Raleigh Court split-entry — wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges, HISA-funded

Raleigh Court, VA Installed October 2025

The Carters' son is a disabled veteran who uses a power wheelchair after returning from deployment. The Raleigh Court split-entry home has five steps from the garage to the main floor. We installed an inclined platform lift with bright yellow high-visibility safety edges, a fold-up deck when not in use, and a keyed call station at the lower landing. The HISA grant through Salem VAMC covered the full cost. The cold-weather battery and freeze-thaw gasket keep the platform running through Blue Ridge winters without throttling.

Common Questions

Everything Roanoke Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Roanoke right now?

Straight rails in standard Roanoke homes — the Raleigh Court ranches, the Wasena split-levels, the South Roanoke two-stories — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level landing turns and Old Southwest multi-flight staircases run $9,000 to $15,000. Outdoor models for hillside entries in Grandin and South Roanoke run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does the cold-weather battery cost extra in Roanoke?

No. Every Roanoke-area install ships with a cold-weather battery rated to -20°F and a freeze-thaw gasket kit as baseline spec. Standard factory batteries fail below 10°F, which is a normal January night in the Roanoke Valley. We build the cold-weather package into the standard quote because the Blue Ridge climate demands it.

My Old Southwest Victorian has very steep stairs. Does the grade affect the price?

The steepness doesn't change the equipment price — the rail follows whatever angle your stairs are built at. What steepness does affect is the type of seat we recommend (power-swivel rather than manual on steep runs) and the rail length. Both are spec'd during the free assessment and quoted upfront. Old Southwest homes are some of our most common installs in Roanoke.

Can I combine the HISA grant with the Virginia Livable Home Tax Credit?

Yes — and most Roanoke veterans should. The VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities through Salem VAMC. The Virginia Livable Home Tax Credit through DHCD returns up to $6,500 on your state income taxes for accessibility modifications. They come from different sources and stack. On a $12,000 curved rail install, a veteran with a service-connected disability can recover over $13,000 between the two programs.

A word from Luis

Most Roanoke families call me after someone has already rearranged their life around the stairs — a retired Norfolk Southern engineer in South Roanoke who sleeps in the recliner because the bedrooms are upstairs, a widow in Old Southwest whose daughter drives from Blacksburg every weekend to do her laundry, a Vietnam veteran in Grandin who hasn't sat on his own front porch since the knee gave out.

I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a written price honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. If you're using a VA benefit through Salem VAMC, I bring the HISA paperwork with me on the first visit.
