Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Radford County

Radford County, VA

We serve all of Radford city and the New River Valley. The East Radford Historic District is full of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival homes from 1880 to 1916 with steep original hardwood that suits a straight rail. Sunset Village bungalows have narrow treads that take a slim-profile rail. High Meadows two-stories have switchback stairs that need a curved rail. Homes in College Park and near Radford University are often split-level. Fairlawn raised ranches across the New River frequently need an outdoor lift, and the cottages in Fairgrounds near the Riverway Trail mix ranchers and bungalows. We also cover Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Dublin, and Pulaski.

Straight

East Radford Historic District — straight rail on original oak treads

East Radford Historic District, VA Installed March 2026

The Hendersons' 1912 Queen Anne on Norwood Street kept its original oak staircase, dark hardwood treads with turned balusters and a 14-foot run. We bolted the straight rail right into the treads with no wall contact, leaving the plaster and woodwork untouched. Mrs. Henderson, 78, started using her upstairs bedroom again the night after the install.

Curved

High Meadows — curved rail on a switchback staircase

High Meadows, VA Installed February 2026

A 2005 two-story in High Meadows had a switchback staircase, two flights meeting at a mid-landing with a 90-degree turn. We laser-measured on site and the rail was custom-bent at the factory to hug the half-wall and park the seat at the top floor. Mr. Wagner, a retired Radford University professor, now uses the lift four times a day.

Sunset Village — compact straight rail in a 1940s bungalow

Sunset Village, VA Installed January 2026

A 1940s Sunset Village bungalow had a narrow staircase, 32 inches wide with stone-tread steps and a wooden sideboard at the base. The straight rail mounted to the treads and left the sideboard untouched. The beige seat parks at the bottom and folds up against the rail, keeping the hallway passable. Mrs. Miller now comes down for coffee on her own each morning.

Outdoor

Fairlawn — outdoor lift on a river-view porch

Fairlawn, VA Installed April 2026

A Fairlawn raised ranch had a stone-paved front porch with ten exterior steps and no handrail on the driveway side. We anchored the outdoor lift into the stone pavers with stainless hardware and sealed it against freeze-thaw winters. With its IP55 rating and weather-grade cover, it's held up to the New River weather. Mr. Carter, a Vietnam veteran, funded it through a HISA grant processed at the Salem VA Medical Center.

College Park — straight rail on carpeted stairs

College Park, VA Installed May 2026

A 1970s split-level near Radford University had carpeted stairs from the entry to the main living floor. The brown seat matched the beige carpet tones, and we mounted the brackets through the carpet into the subfloor with no carpet damage. The tiled floor at the base made a clean landing. Mrs. Nguyen used the lift through three months of hip-replacement rehab and kept it permanently.

Platform Lift

Fairgrounds — indoor wheelchair platform lift

Fairgrounds, VA Installed March 2026

We installed an indoor inclined platform lift on a straight staircase in a Fairgrounds home: a flat black deck with yellow safety edges, a white handrail, and a fold-down ramp at the base for a wheelchair roll-on. Rated to 600 lb, it lets the Reynolds' son reach the main floor on his own.

Common Questions

Everything Radford Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Radford, VA?

A straight stairlift starts at $2,800 installed. Curved lifts start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 lb start at $5,050. Every quote includes the rail, seat, installation, and a five-year warranty with no hidden delivery fees.

Are there any Radford-specific costs?

East Radford Historic District homes sometimes need extra measurement time because the original staircases have non-standard rise-and-run ratios. That adds no cost for straight rails, though a curved-rail job may need a second laser-measurement visit ($150, credited toward the install). Fairlawn and river-facing homes often call for an outdoor unit.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs in Radford?

No. Original Medicare classifies a stairlift as a home modification, not durable medical equipment, so it isn't covered. The main funding paths in Radford are the VA HISA grant ($6,800 for service-connected veterans), Virginia's CCC Plus Medicaid waiver, and the state Livable Home Tax Credit of up to $6,500.

Can I rent a stairlift in Radford instead of buying?

Yes. Rentals run $120 to $180 a month with a minimum term and make sense for short-term needs like post-surgery recovery. A straight rail bought outright at $2,800 breaks even against a rental in roughly 18 months.

A word from Luis

Radford homes run the full range, from century-old Victorians in the East Radford Historic District with steep original hardwood, to 1940s Sunset Village bungalows, to the newer switchback two-stories out in High Meadows. The big thing people don't expect is how fast the install goes.

Three hours for a straight rail, a full day for a curved one. We bolt to the treads, not the wall, so the plaster and woodwork in these older homes stays intact. For the curved jobs I laser-measure on site and the rail comes back bent to your exact turn. Salem VA Medical Center handles the HISA paperwork for our veterans, and I help coordinate it.
