Expert Stairlift Installation in Radnor, PA

Radnor Township carries three separate historic districts — Downtown, North Wayne, and South Wayne — plus National Register sites like the 1717 Radnor Friends Meetinghouse and the Wayne Hotel, and a good share of the staircases I measure in St. Davids and Rosemont are original to houses built long before code ever required a landing at the top of a run. Homeownership sits at 63.2% here, so most of the calls come from people who've owned the house a while and plan to keep it that way, not renters passing through. A curved rail with a mid-flight landing takes more measuring than a straight shot up a newer staircase, but on these older Main Line homes it's routine work once you've templated a few.

Wayne — straight rail on original 1922 oak treads

Wayne, PA Installed April 2026

The Brennans' 1922 stone colonial on Poplar Avenue has the original dark oak staircase — wide treads, beautiful grain, but no railing on the wall side. Mrs. Brennan, 78, had been sliding down on her bottom for months. We bolted a 14-foot straight rail into the oak treads, with the beige seat parked at the bottom landing.

Villanova — curved rail sweeping to the upper landing

Villanova, PA Installed March 2026

A classic Main Line Victorian on Montgomery Avenue with a graceful 90-degree staircase curving at the upper landing beneath a chandelier. The Hendersons needed a curved rail to match the sweep exactly. After a 45-minute laser measurement, the custom-bent rail arrived in two weeks and the brown seat now parks at the top floor.

Garrett Hill — compact rail beside the sideboard on tile treads

Garrett Hill, PA Installed February 2026

A compact 1940s pre-war twin on Garrett Avenue with stone-tile treads and a staircase tucked beside the living-room sideboard — only 33 inches wide. The brown seat at the bottom landing folds close to the cabinet when not in use. Mr. Kowalski, a retired SEPTA mechanic, had been sleeping on the ground-floor sofa for a year.

Rosemont — outdoor lift on a stone-paved porch entry

Rosemont, PA Installed March 2026

Seven rough stone steps lead from the driveway to the Callahans' front porch on Conestoga Road — no handrail, uneven risers, slick in winter. We installed a 10-foot outdoor straight rail with IP55 weather sealing and a marine-grade aluminum rail, with the cream seat waiting at the porch entry.

St. Davids — straight rail on carpeted Cape Cod stairs

St. Davids, PA Installed January 2026

A tidy 1958 Cape Cod on Chamounix Road with beige carpeted stairs leading to two upstairs bedrooms — the carpet nearly matched the brown upholstery of the seat. Mr. Russo, 82, had knee-replacement surgery scheduled for spring and wanted the lift in place beforehand. We mounted the rail through the carpet with no visible hardware on the tread surface.

Platform Lift

Strafford — indoor wheelchair platform lift on a straight flight

Strafford, PA Installed May 2026

An indoor inclined platform lift for a wheelchair user in a contemporary Strafford home. Flat black deck with yellow safety edges, a white handrail, and 600-pound capacity. The straight 16-foot staircase from the entry level up to the main living area got the full platform treatment — no seat, just roll on and ride.

Stairlift Service Across Delaware County

Delaware County, PA

Radnor Township covers nearly 14 square miles across six residential areas. Wayne holds stone colonials and Victorians from 1890–1930 along the walkable Lancaster Avenue corridor — wide central staircases with dark oak treads. St. Davids has older stone homes near Eastern University, where narrow treads and 90-degree landings are common. Villanova mixes 1920s estates with newer construction around the university. Garrett Hill has pre-war twins and row homes with compact stairwells often under 34 inches wide. Rosemont holds Victorian-era houses with steep, frequently curved staircases. Ithan and Strafford round out the township with mid-century splits and ranches built 1950–1980. Each pattern asks a different rail — straight on the colonials, custom-bent on the Rosemont curves, slim-rail on Garrett Hill's tight twins.

Common Questions

Everything Radnor Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What should I expect to pay for a stairlift in Radnor Township?

Straight-rail lifts run less than curved ones because the rail ships pre-cut instead of getting custom-bent around a turn or a landing, and Radnor's got a real mix of both — newer straight runs further from the historic core, and older homes near Wayne and St. Davids where a curve or landing is more common. The area's affordability band skews premium, and a 2007 estimate put median household income at $86,812, which is part of why most homeowners I talk to here weigh the loan and funding options below rather than paying the full amount up front.

Does Medicare or my homeowners policy pay for any of it?

Neither one does — Medicare treats a stairlift as a home modification rather than durable medical equipment, so it's excluded no matter what your doctor writes, and homeowners insurance only covers damage, not accessibility upgrades. The Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation fills that gap with a 0% mini-loan up to $7,000 or a low-interest loan (3.75%) up to $60,000, and there's no income limit to qualify.

A word from Luis
I cover the whole township — Ithan, Rosemont, both sides of Wayne — and the staircases split pretty evenly between the older homes clustered near the historic districts and the newer construction further out toward Ithan Creek. Villanova's the biggest employer around, 3,438 people on payroll, and I've put lifts in for retired faculty who bought their house decades ago and have no intention of downsizing. The terrain here is gentle for the area, nothing like the hillside foundations I fight in some of the older river towns nearby, so I'm not usually dealing with damp basement walls at the base of the stairs.
Luis Ramírez, Radnor
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Radnor Township families deal with the same staircase patterns across the Main Line: stone homes built before indoor plumbing, retrofitted with tight stairwells; 1960s split-levels where the half-flight to the bedrooms feels steeper each year; and grand Victorians where a fall on the curved staircase means a 911 call. None of those is a reason to move.

A rail bolts to the treads — not the wall, not the trim — so the drywall stays intact and the holes fill clean if it ever comes out. We serve the full township: Wayne, St. Davids, Villanova, Garrett Hill, Rosemont, Ithan, Strafford, and the Radnor sections of Bryn Mawr.
