Stairlift Service Across Montgomery County

Montgomery County, PA

From the stone colonials along Cricket Avenue and South Ardmore to the three-story Victorians near Haverford College, from the twins and duplexes along Lancaster Avenue to the mid-century homes in North Ardmore and Wynnewood, our team has measured stairs in every corner of Lower Merion Township. We know which Cricket Avenue colonials have the narrow back staircase that requires the compact rail, which Haverford-area homes have the curved landing at the second floor, and which Lancaster Avenue twins have the steep 45-degree pitch that needs the angle-adjusted mount.

We serve all of Montgomery and Delaware County — Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Narberth, Merion, Wynnewood, Upper Darby — with no additional travel charges.

Original oak treads in a Cricket Avenue colonial — beige seat, carved banister untouched

South Ardmore, PA Installed March 2026

A 1920s stone colonial on Cricket Avenue with original oak treads and a carved walnut banister the family refused to modify. We bolted the straight rail into the hardwood treads without contacting the banister, the plaster walls, or the baseboards. The beige seat folds to just 11 inches, leaving full clearance on the stairs. Mrs. Kowalski's mother-in-law rides it eight times a day and hasn't needed help on the stairs since the install.

L-shaped Victorian staircase near Haverford College — curved rail past the newel post

Haverford College area, PA Installed February 2026

A three-story Victorian near Haverford College with an L-shaped staircase and a 90-degree turn at the second-floor landing. The original newel post sat directly in the path of a standard rail. We laser-scanned the staircase, designed a continuous curved rail that threads past the newel post with two inches of clearance, and fabricated a single track from the entry hall to the upstairs bedrooms. The brown seat matches the existing dark woodwork. Mr. O'Brien's father rides it every day without giving the newel post a second thought.

Carpeted stairs in a North Ardmore mid-century — swivel seat at the landing

North Ardmore, PA Installed January 2026

A 1960s mid-century two-story in North Ardmore with 14 carpeted treads and a tight newel post at the bottom. Mr. Fitzgerald is a veteran whose knees couldn't handle the daily trip upstairs to his study. We installed a straight rail with a powered swivel seat at the upper landing so he steps off onto the hallway floor instead of balancing on the top tread. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no pile damage. The HISA grant through the Philadelphia VA covered $6,800 of the cost.

Outdoor rail on stone entry steps — freeze-proof battery for Main Line winters

Lancaster Avenue, PA Installed December 2025

A twin home along Lancaster Avenue with five stone entry steps that ice over every winter. Mrs. Petrillo's mother, age 83, lives alone and had already fallen twice on the front steps. We installed a weather-resistant outdoor rail with a freeze-proof battery, galvanized hardware, and a cream-colored UV-stable seat. The rail ran through the February nor'easter without a hiccup. The PA CHC waiver covered the majority of the cost. Every component is sealed against road salt spray from Lancaster Avenue traffic.

Narrow twin-home staircase on Wynnewood Road — compact rail with folding footrest

Wynnewood, PA Installed November 2025

A pre-war twin in Wynnewood with a narrow 28-inch-wide staircase between the plaster wall and the original oak banister. The condo association required documentation before approving the install. We handled the ADA compliance letter, the liability waiver, and the restoration commitment. The board approved it in four days. The compact-profile rail fits the narrow stairwell with room to spare, and the folding footrest tucks flat when parked. Mrs. Henderson hasn't asked her daughter for help on the stairs once since the install.

Platform Lift

Indoor platform lift with yellow safety edges for a Merion Station veteran

Merion Station, PA Installed October 2025

A two-story stone home in Merion Station near the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Mr. Washington is a disabled veteran who uses a power wheelchair full-time after a service-connected spinal injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so the grandchildren cannot activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered the full $6,800 service-connected maximum, and the PA CHC waiver covered the remaining balance. He rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides to the upper floor without ever leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Ardmore Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Ardmore right now?

Straight rails in standard Ardmore homes — the stone colonials on Cricket Avenue, the twins along Lancaster Avenue, the mid-century two-stories in North Ardmore — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for the L-shaped staircases and curved landings in Main Line Victorians run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured to your exact stair geometry. Outdoor models with freeze-proof hardware run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, installation, and the first service visit.

Main Line homes are expensive. Does that affect stairlift pricing?

Equipment pricing is the same across southeastern PA. We do not raise quotes because you live in Lower Merion. What can affect cost is stair complexity — and Main Line homes have more of it. The three-story Victorians near Haverford College, the colonials with servants' staircases, the split-level entries from the 1960s — those geometries sometimes require a curved rail instead of a straight one. We tell you which type you need at the free assessment, not after you've signed anything.

Do narrow twin-home stairs cost more to install?

The compact-profile rail fits staircases as narrow as 26 inches, which covers the vast majority of Ardmore's twins and duplexes along Lancaster Avenue. Narrow stairs do not increase the equipment price. Occasionally the century-old treads need a backing plate to distribute the bolt load, which adds $50–$100 in hardware. We tell you at the assessment, not on install day.

Do you charge extra for the steep-pitch adjustment some older homes need?

The adjustable-angle mount is part of our standard kit on every Main Line assessment — we need it roughly one in four installs because many pre-1930 homes have staircase pitches steeper than modern code allows. No extra charge. If the pitch exceeds the mount range (extremely rare), we tell you at the assessment and suggest alternatives before you commit to anything.

A word from Luis

The Main Line has some of the finest housing stock in Pennsylvania — and some of the steepest, narrowest staircases I've ever measured. The stone colonials on Cricket Avenue, the three-story Victorians near Haverford College, the twin homes along Lancaster Avenue — these houses were built before anyone thought about accessibility.

When the stairs become the barrier, I drive out the same day you call, measure once, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. Lower Merion Township doesn't require a permit for standard stairlift installs. I've done enough of them here to know the process cold.
