The workhorse of Pontiac’s brick bungalows — basement drops, entry splits, and bedroom stairs. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Pontiac are this model. The rail bolts directly into the stair treads (never into your plaster wall or original banister), fits in 30 inches of clear width for the tight basement runs and narrow Paddock Street stairwells, and the folding seat and footrest tuck flat when parked. Every Pontiac install ships with the cold-pack battery backup rated to -30 degrees. Most wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $2,450 installed

Stairlift Service Across Oakland County

Oakland County, MI

From Seminole Hills — the National Register historic district of nearly 500 homes with original oak banisters and 1920s bungalow geometry — to the Paddock Street colonials near downtown where steep basement runs and narrow stair widths are the most common install we measure, our crew has mapped the Pontiac staircase. Pontiac North has the post-war ranch splits with the four-step entry rise. The South Boulevard corridor homes are the 1960s ranches where the garage-to-house step is the barrier. Auburn Hills-adjacent condos and townhouses require HOA accommodation packets before install. Because Pontiac sits at the center of northern Oakland County, we also staff coverage for Auburn Hills, Sylvan Lake, Keego Harbor, Bloomfield Hills, and Orchard Lake Village.

Straight

Seminole Hills bungalow — straight rail on original oak treads

Seminole Hills, MI Installed March 2026

A 1924 brick bungalow in the Seminole Hills National Register district with original quarter-sawn oak treads and dark hardwood stairs that had survived three generations. Mrs. Patterson needed a straight rail bolted directly into the treads — no wall contact, no banister contact. We mounted the beige seat at the bottom landing, ran the straight rail up the right side along the open-tread staircase, and had her riding by early afternoon. The warm wood tones and the cream seat blend so well her neighbor didn’t notice the rail for a week.

Paddock Street colonial — curved rail bends around the upper-floor landing

Paddock Street, MI Installed February 2026

A 1938 colonial near Paddock Street where the staircase takes a 90-degree curve at the upper-floor landing before opening onto the hallway. Mr. Carter, a retired GM Pontiac Assembly worker, needed a rail that followed the bend exactly. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a custom curved rail in 12 days, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor so he steps directly onto the hallway — not the top tread. The curved rail threads past the half-wall balustrade and sits flush against the turn.

Straight

Pontiac North ranch — compact straight rail next to the hallway sideboard

Pontiac North, MI Installed January 2026

A 1958 post-war ranch in Pontiac North with stone-tile treads and a narrow staircase next to a wooden sideboard and potted plant in the hallway. Mrs. Williams needed a compact straight rail that wouldn’t block the tight walkway. We mounted the brown-upholstered seat at the bottom, ran the slim-profile rail along the wall side, and the folding seat tucks flat against the sideboard when parked. The whole install fit the cozy, traditional feel of the home without rearranging any furniture.

Outdoor

South Boulevard corridor — outdoor porch lift on stone-paved entry steps

South Boulevard corridor, MI Installed December 2025

A 1965 ranch along the South Boulevard corridor where Mr. Franklin — a Vietnam veteran with service-connected mobility limitations — could no longer manage the stone-paved front porch steps. We installed a cream-colored weather-resistant seat on the raised porch entry, anchored into the natural stone paving at the base and the covered porch landing at the top. The sealed motor housing and weather-rated upholstery handle Michigan’s freeze-thaw cycles, and the HISA grant through the Pontiac VA Outpatient Clinic covered the full cost.

Paddock Street bungalow — straight rail on carpeted stairs at the landing

Paddock Street, MI Installed November 2025

A 1942 brick bungalow on Paddock Street where Mrs. Jenkins needed a straight rail on her carpeted staircase. The brown-upholstered seat matches the warm carpet tones almost exactly — the installer noted that the brown upholstery disappears against the carpet color when parked at the landing. The rail runs from the tiled floor at the bottom of the landing up the carpet-covered treads, and the wall-mounted light switches stayed accessible with the slim-profile rail mounted on the opposite side.

Platform Lift

Pontiac North — indoor wheelchair platform lift for post-surgery recovery

Pontiac North, MI Installed October 2025

A 1955 brick ranch in Pontiac North where Mr. Robinson was recovering from a hip replacement at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and could not transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with high-visibility yellow safety edges and a white handrail. The platform rides the rail at an incline so Mr. Robinson rolls his wheelchair on at the bottom, rides up, and rolls off at the top without ever leaving his chair. The terracotta-toned walls and the window light make the installation blend into the home’s interior.

Common Questions

Everything Pontiac Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Pontiac right now?

Straight rails in standard Pontiac homes — the Seminole Hills bungalows, the Paddock Street colonials, the South Boulevard corridor ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for homes with landing turns or L-shaped staircases run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and cold-rated models for front stoops and entry steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, cold-pack battery backup rated to -30 degrees, installation, and the first service visit.

Are prices lower in Pontiac than in Bloomfield Hills or Auburn Hills?

Equipment prices are the same across Oakland County. A straight rail in a Seminole Hills bungalow costs the same as one in Bloomfield Hills or Orchard Lake Village. What occasionally adds a line item in Pontiac is the electrical permit when we pull a new dedicated circuit — common in pre-1950 homes still running 60-amp service. The permit fee is pass-through at cost, usually $75-$150, and we file it under our Michigan-licensed electrical contractor.

I’m on a fixed income. What funding options apply in Pontiac?

More than most cities. MI Choice Medicaid waiver covers stairlifts as environmental accessibility adaptations with a cap around $6,000 per plan year — intake runs through the Area Agency on Aging 1-B at 1-800-803-7174. HISA covers up to $6,800 for service-connected veterans through the Dingell VA. MSHDA’s Property Improvement Program offers low-interest loans up to $50,000. And we offer 0% APR financing for qualified buyers from $79/month. We walk every Pontiac family through the full funding picture during the free assessment — on paper, not a tablet.

Do you charge extra for basement-only installs?

No. The basement drop is the single most common install we do in Pontiac — six to eight steep steps, narrow width, low headroom at the bottom. The slim-profile rail fits in 30 inches of clear width, and we quote it at the same rate as a standard straight rail. What adds cost (rarely) is when the basement staircase has a 90-degree turn at the bottom, which requires a curved rail. We tell you which one you need during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Most Pontiac families call me after something has already gone wrong — a fall on the basement steps, a discharge from St. Joseph Mercy Oakland with orders to avoid stairs, a daughter in Grand Rapids who can’t sleep because Mom is alone in a two-story bungalow. The housing stock here is almost entirely pre-1970, built for GM autoworkers who expected to stay for life. Those workers are now in their 70s and 80s, and the stair geometry hasn’t gotten any easier.

I’ve measured the Seminole Hills oak-banister staircases, the steep Paddock Street basement drops, the four-step ranch entries along South Boulevard. I know what fits and what doesn’t before I pull the tape. One visit, one price, honored for 30 days. No pressure.
