Stairlift Service Across Oakland County

Oakland County, MI

From the 1920s brick bungalows along Catalpa Drive — narrow enclosed staircases with original hardwood treads — to the post-war ranches and Cape Cods in Angell east of Greenfield Road, our crew has measured stairs in every part of Berkley. The Burton split-levels built in the late 1950s need curved rails for their mid-landing turns. Thomas Street compact colonials take standard straight runs in under four hours. The newer two-stories along Coolidge Highway and the 12 Mile corridor have wider treads and open layouts. Smaller pockets near Oxford Park and the Wiltshire bungalow blocks fold our slim-profile rail flat against the wall when not in use.

1928 Catalpa bungalow — straight rail on original hardwood treads

Catalpa-Wiltshire, MI Installed March 2026

A 1928 brick bungalow on Catalpa Drive with 13 original oak treads and an enclosed staircase 32 inches wide between plaster walls. Mrs. Mancini had slept on the couch for three weeks after a fall on the upstairs landing. The slim-profile rail bolts into the treads — not the wall — and the cream seat parks at the bottom landing folded flat. Color-matched to the original oak. Mrs. Mancini slept upstairs that Thursday night.

1961 Burton two-story — curved rail to upper landing, swivel-exit seat

Burton, MI Installed February 2026

A 1961 two-story in the Burton neighborhood with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing. Mr. Kowalski retired from the GM Tech Center in Warren in 2018. We laser-scanned the run on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail custom-bent for the turn, and installed a powered swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps off onto the upstairs hallway.

1946 Angell cottage — compact straight rail on stone-tile treads

Angell, MI Installed January 2026

A 1946 cottage-style home in the Angell neighborhood east of Greenfield Road with light stone-tile treads and tight stair geometry. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom next to Mrs. Novak's wooden sideboard, where she keeps a potted plant by the landing. Folded, the rail and seat take up just 11 inches against the brick interior wall. Mrs. Novak was back upstairs the same day we installed.

Thomas-Oxford, MI Installed December 2025

A 1950s colonial on Thomas Street with a raised flagstone porch and six stone-paved steps that ice over from November through March. Mr. Henderson is a retired Ford Dearborn machinist with knee arthritis. The cream weather-resistant seat and IP55-sealed motor housing are rated for Michigan freeze-thaw cycles. Every exterior bolt carries corrosion-resistant coating against road-salt drift off Coolidge Highway. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000.

Dorothea Street ranch — straight rail on carpeted treads, same-week install

Dorothea-Wiltshire, MI Installed November 2025

A 1955 ranch on Dorothea Street with carpeted treads in warm brown tones and tile flooring at the base. Mrs. Reyes's son called Tuesday after she slipped at the upper landing — we measured Tuesday afternoon, crew at the house Thursday morning. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath, no carpet removal. The brown seat matches the carpet tones. Luis ran the assessment in Spanish and left a Spanish manual.

Common Questions

Everything Berkley Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Berkley right now?

Straight rails in standard Berkley homes — the 1920s bungalows along Catalpa, the Cape Cods in Angell, the post-war ranches near Greenfield — start at $2,800 and run up to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Burton landing turns start at $9,000 and run to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models sealed for Michigan freeze-thaw winters start at $4,000. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Berkley prices different from other Oakland County cities?

Equipment pricing is the same whether you live in Berkley, Royal Oak, or Troy — we don't inflate or discount by zip code. What varies is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow 1920s enclosed stairwells in the Catalpa corridor that take our slimmest rail, split-level landing fabrication in Burton, or running a dedicated 120V circuit to a stairwell that shares a fuse with the kitchen. We itemize every line on the written quote.

Is a stairlift cheaper than downsizing in Oakland County?

The median home price in Berkley is around $280,000. Between realtor commissions, closing costs, moving expenses, and leaving a neighborhood you've lived in for decades, downsizing runs $25,000 to $50,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours from $2,800. Even the most complex curved rail in Berkley costs under $15,000. The math isn't close — and you stay in your home.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Berkley assessment can run in Spanish at your request. Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of Oakland County families through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. The written quote, consent forms, and operating manuals are all available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

A word from Luis

Most Berkley families call after something has already gone wrong — a fall on the narrow stairs in a Catalpa-side bungalow, a father who stopped going upstairs after a hip replacement at Beaumont Royal Oak, a daughter in Ann Arbor calling because her mother hasn't slept in her own bedroom for two months. I drive over the same day, measure the stairwell once with a laser, and write a price that's good for 30 days.

I bolt the rail to the treads, not the wall — drywall stays intact and the original oak banister doesn't move. For Burton split-levels with mid-landing turns, I laser-scan the run and we fabricate a single curved rail; you ride from the entry to the upper hallway in one shot. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
