Straight Stairlift — Petaluma, CA

Straight Stairlift

Most common · From $3,200

The right fit for Petaluma’s Ranch homes and postwar two-stories — installed in under four hours. Most of Petaluma’s west-side Ranch homes and postwar two-stories take a straight rail cleanly — standard rise, 36 to 42 inches wide, accessible outlet at the landing. We’ve installed this model throughout Westridge and the Corona Road area. The seat and footrest fold flat against the rail so the staircase remains fully passable, and the DC battery backup keeps the lift running through the fog-season outages that hit Sonoma County every winter.

Starting at $3,200 installed

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Sonoma County

Sonoma County, CA

Our most active Petaluma corridors are the Victorian District streets east of Petaluma Boulevard — B Street, C Street, D Street, and Liberty Street — where 1880s–1910s housing stock presents narrow-stairwell, banister-preservation challenges we’ve become fluent in. Further east, McNear Park and East Washington contain postwar Ranch homes with standard-rise stairs that take a straight rail in under three hours. North of the river, the Westridge and Corona Road areas have 1980s–1990s two-stories with wider stairwells and contemporary finishes. Quarry Heights near the Sonoma Mountain corridor features newer construction with open-plan layouts. We also cover Penngrove regularly — it’s 4.5 miles north with similar Victorian-era housing on rural parcels that often require outdoor rail runs from driveway to covered entry.

Straight

Straight rail on original fir — Victorian District home

Victorian District, CA Installed March 2026

An 1897 Victorian on B Street in Petaluma’s Historic District with original fir treads, a turned banister, and a stairwell measuring 36.5 inches clear — tight enough that two previous companies declined the job. We used the compact-profile rail, bolted into the existing fir treads without removing a spindle, and finished the hardware in a matte bronze that reads as period-appropriate from the first-floor entrance. Mrs. Calloway’s staircase looks exactly as it did in 1897 except now she uses it again.

Curved

Curved rail — Craftsman with quarter-turn landing

East Washington District, CA Installed February 2026

A 1921 Craftsman bungalow on the east side with a quarter-turn landing at the midpoint. No straight rail could manage the geometry. We laser-scanned on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads through the quarter-turn and parks flush at the upper hall, and installed in a single afternoon. The Nakamuras had been sleeping downstairs for seven months while considering options. They were back in their own bedroom the night of install day.

Compact straight rail in a cozy McNear Park cottage

McNear Park, CA Installed January 2026

A 1940s cottage near McNear Park with stone-tile treads, a wooden sideboard crowding the bottom landing, and a compact stairwell that left little room for error. The O’Briens had been told their stairs were too tight, but our compact-profile rail fit cleanly alongside the existing furniture. The stone treads accepted mounting bolts without cracking, and the warm brown upholstery blends with the home’s traditional interior. Mrs. O’Brien, 76, now uses the lift twice daily without rearranging a single piece of furniture.

Outdoor

Outdoor porch lift on stone-paved Victorian entry

Victorian District, CA Installed December 2025

A Victorian on D Street with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry level. Mr. Hoffman’s mobility had declined to the point where navigating the porch steps with a cane felt unsafe. We mounted a weather-resistant cream-colored seat on a marine-grade rail along the porch steps, with the base anchored into the stone paving. The Petaluma fog corridor demanded full IP54 weather sealing on every component. Four months in, the rail shows zero oxidation and Mr. Hoffman enters and exits his home independently.

Straight

Straight rail on carpeted stairs — Westridge landing

Westridge, CA Installed November 2025

A 1990s two-story in Westridge with fully carpeted stairs, a mid-level landing, and tiled flooring at the bottom. The brown upholstery we selected blends with the carpet tones so closely that visitors often don’t notice the rail until Ms. Fischer rides it. Mounting bolts went through the carpet into solid wood treads beneath. Ms. Fischer is 82 and had been restricting herself to the ground floor for over a year. She called the install ‘embarrassingly easy — I don’t know why I waited so long.’

Platform Lift

Indoor wheelchair platform lift — Quarry Heights home

Quarry Heights, CA Installed October 2025

Mr. Delacroix uses a power wheelchair following a spinal injury and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on their indoor stairway — a flat anti-slip platform with high-visibility yellow safety edges and white handrails on both sides. The platform rides a rail bolted to the stair treads, and Mr. Delacroix rolls directly on and off without leaving his chair. The Delacroixs had been confined to the ground floor for two years before this install gave them full access to the upper level.

Common Questions

Everything Petaluma Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Petaluma?

Straight-rail installs in Petaluma’s Ranch homes and postwar builds run $2,800 to $5,500 installed — rail, seat, battery backup, and labor all included. Victorian and Craftsman homes with curved or angled staircases run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor or semi-exposed entry rails run $4,000 to $7,500. All quotes are written, honored for 30 days, and cover every line item — no labor fees added after you sign.

Does living near the coast make equipment more expensive?

No — the coastal-spec components we use in Petaluma (sealed motor housing, marine-grade stainless fasteners, UV-stable upholstery) are included in our standard California North Coast pricing, not billed as upgrades. We don’t charge a Petaluma premium. What we won’t do is spec standard zinc-plated hardware on a marine-influence-zone install and send someone a maintenance call 18 months later. The right parts go in the first time.

Can I get a quote before committing to an in-home assessment?

We can give you a realistic range — straight rails run $2,800 to $5,500; curved rails from $9,000 — but we can’t give you a final number without measuring your staircase. Victorian and Craftsman stairwells in particular vary significantly in rise, tread depth, banister clearance, and turn geometry. The in-home assessment is free and takes 45 minutes. You leave with a written quote and no obligation.

Are there any financing options available in Petaluma?

Yes. We work with three lending partners offering 0% APR plans for qualified buyers and fixed-rate terms starting from $79/month. The application is a soft credit pull — no impact to your score — and most approvals come back same-day. Many Petaluma families combine financing with a partial Medi-Cal HCBA waiver or IRS medical deduction to reduce the net monthly cost significantly. We run the numbers during the assessment.

A word from Luis

Petaluma is one of the most senior-dense cities in Sonoma County — more than 21% of residents are over 65, and nearly 5% are over 80. That’s not a demographic footnote; it’s what we see every day. A lot of these homeowners have lived in their Victorian or Craftsman for 30 to 40 years and have no intention of leaving. Our job is to make sure the stairs don’t make that decision for them.

The calls I get from Petaluma follow a pattern: an adult child in San Francisco or Sacramento phones after a parent has had a fall or a near-miss on stairs they’ve climbed for decades. The staircase hasn’t changed — the body has. I tell every family the same thing: measure twice, install once, and never assume your parent will bring it up on their own. They won’t. You have to ask.

— Luis Ramírez, Petaluma
