Stairlift Service Across Middlesex County

Middlesex County, MA

North Reading's housing stock spans three centuries. The Town Center holds Federal-period Colonials with narrow, steep staircases near the Third Meeting House (1829, now the Edith O'Leary Senior Center on Park Street). Around Martins Pond, mid-century Capes and ranches sit along the 92-acre freshwater pond's shoreline. Newer subdivisions like Acorn Knoll off Central Street and Castle Estates feature larger Colonials with grand foyers that need curved rails. Central Place condos off Central Street house 55+ residents where a short entry flight still needs a lift. The Chestnut Street corridor and Marblehead Street area hold North Reading's older homes, with 32-inch-wide staircases that need compact rail systems.

Straight

Federal Colonial Near the Town Common

Town Center, MA Installed February 2026

The Morrisons' 1820 Federal Colonial near the Third Meeting House has original dark hardwood treads — narrow, steep, and polished by two centuries of use. Luis installed a beige straight rail bolted directly to the oak treads, preserving the Federal-period trim untouched. The 14-foot rail runs from the bottom landing to the upper hallway. Three hours, five bolts, no drywall work. Mrs.

Grand Colonial in Acorn Knoll

Acorn Knoll, MA Installed March 2026

The Pattersons' 1990s Colonial off Acorn Knoll Drive has a sweeping curved staircase with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing, finished with a crystal chandelier overhead. Luis laser-measured the turn path and ordered a custom-bent curved rail. The brown seat parks at the top floor, folding neatly against the half-wall when not in use. The rail follows the stair curve within a quarter-inch tolerance. Mr.

Saltbox Colonial on Chestnut Street

Chestnut Street, MA Installed January 2026

The DiBenedettos' 1720 saltbox Colonial has stone-tread stairs — original to the house — leading up from a compact ground-floor room with a wooden sideboard. The staircase is 32 inches wide at its tightest. Luis fit a compact straight rail with a brown seat, using shallow tread anchors to avoid cracking the antique stone. The seat parks at the bottom beside the sideboard. Mrs.

Lakefront Entry on Martins Pond

Martins Pond, MA Installed October 2025

The Kowalskis' Martins Pond home has a rough granite entry stairway — five stone steps from the driveway to the front porch, beautiful but ice-slick by December. Luis installed a cream-colored outdoor lift with IP55 weather sealing and powder-coated aluminum rail. The anchors were drilled into the granite with stainless hardware and sealed against moisture. Through the 2025-26 winter and a spring Nor'easter, the lift operated without interruption. Mr.

Raised Ranch off Marblehead Street

Marblehead Street, MA Installed April 2026

The Callahans' raised ranch on Marblehead Street has a carpeted staircase — beige pile over plywood treads — leading up from a tiled entryway. The brown stairlift seat nearly matches the carpet tone, so it blends into the stairwell. Luis bolted the 15-foot straight rail through the carpet into the treads, with no carpet damage beyond the bolt holes. The seat parks at the bottom on the tile floor. Mrs.

55+ Condo at Central Place

Central Place, MA Installed March 2026

The Reynolds' ground-floor unit at Central Place, a 55+ community off Central Street, has a six-step indoor stair flight from the entry to the main living level. Mr. Reynolds uses a wheelchair full-time. Luis installed an inclined platform lift — flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail — that carries the wheelchair up the stair path. The platform folds up when not in use, leaving the stairs clear for other residents.

Common Questions

Everything North Reading Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in North Reading?

A straight stairlift in North Reading runs from $2,800 installed. That covers the rail, seat, battery backup, and a 3-hour install on a standard straight staircase — common in the Capes and raised ranches off Swan Pond Road and around Martins Pond. No hidden fees. Luis gives a firm quote at the free assessment, not a range.

How much is a curved stairlift for a North Reading Colonial?

Curved stairlifts in North Reading start at $9,000. The price depends on the number of turns and the rail length. A typical Acorn Knoll Colonial with a 90-degree turn at the landing runs about $9,500-$11,000. The rail is custom-bent after a 1-hour laser measurement on site. You get the exact quote before any work starts.

Does Medicare or private insurance cover a stairlift in Massachusetts?

Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in Massachusetts offer a home-modification allowance. MassHealth's Frail Elder Waiver can cover stairlifts for eligible seniors 60+. Private long-term-care insurance policies sometimes include home-modification benefits. We help check your coverage at the assessment.

What financing options are available for a North Reading stairlift?

We offer financing from $79/month through third-party lenders. The Massachusetts Home Modification Loan Program (HMLP) provides 0% interest loans up to $50,000 for accessibility modifications, with no monthly payments and repayment only when the property sells. The Assistive Technology Loan Program (ATLP) through Easterseals Massachusetts offers low-interest loans from 4.75% for purchases over $4,000.

A word from Luis

North Reading's housing stock is what makes this job interesting. In one week I can be in a 1720 saltbox on Chestnut Street with a 32-inch-wide staircase, then a 1990s Colonial in Acorn Knoll with a sweeping curved rail, then a raised ranch off Marblehead Street with carpeted treads. Each one needs a different approach, but the fundamentals don't change — bolt the rail to the treads, not the wall, and the drywall stays untouched.

The freeze-thaw cycle here takes a toll on outdoor stone steps around Martins Pond — I've done several outdoor lifts for lakefront homes where the granite entry stairs get treacherous by February. IP55-rated outdoor rails hold up through the Nor'easters. For the older Colonials in the Town Center, the compact straight rails fit 32-inch staircases without crowding the hallway. Most installs run about 3 hours, start to finish.

With North Reading's senior population climbing fast through 2030, more families are planning ahead. I tell them the same thing every time: come for the free assessment. We measure, we talk about funding, and you decide. No pressure, no rush.

— Luis Ramírez, North Reading
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

North Reading was carved out of Reading as an independent town in 1853, and it still feels like its own place — a mix of three-century-old Colonials, mid-century neighborhoods, and newer subdivisions, all within the Ipswich River watershed. The town's senior population will nearly double by 2030, and a stairlift is often the difference between staying in a multi-story Colonial on Park Street and having to downsize.

Call Luis or email [email protected] for a free in-home assessment. He'll measure your staircase, walk you through the VA HISA and MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver funding options, and give you a firm quote the same day. Most installs happen within a week of the assessment.
