Stairlift Service Across Essex County

Essex County, MA

From the stately Colonials and Federal-era homes along Main Street in the Historic Mill District — where Shawsheen Village’s 1920s planned-community cottages sit on leafy lots near Balmoral Park — to the postwar ranches and split-levels in West Andover built during the Route 93 commuter boom, our team has measured staircases across every Andover neighborhood. Ballardvale’s steep Victorian stairways take slim-profile rails. Indian Ridge’s newer colonials have standard-width treads that simplify every install. High Plain’s raised ranches need outdoor units for front-entry steps that ice over every winter.

1924 Shawsheen Village cottage — straight rail on original oak treads

Shawsheen Village, MA Installed March 2026

A 1924 cottage in the Shawsheen Village historic district with 13 original oak treads and a painted wooden banister. Mrs. Donovan had been sleeping in the first-floor study for three weeks after knee replacement surgery at Lawrence General because the stairs to the second-floor bedrooms were off-limits. We drove over the next morning, laser-measured the 14-foot run, confirmed the dense old-growth oak treads could accept the mounting hardware without splitting, and installed the same week. The rail parks flush against the wall at the bottom. She slept in her own bed that night for the first time in a month.

1967 West Andover split-level — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

West Andover, MA Installed February 2026

A 1967 split-level in West Andover near Harold Parker State Forest with six steps from the front entry to the living area, a 90-degree landing, then nine more steps to the bedrooms. Mr. Mahoney is a retired Army officer who has lived in this house since 1982. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the entry to the upper hallway without stopping, and installed a swivel-exit seat so he steps off onto carpet instead of balancing on the top tread. His VA primary care provider at the Bedford VA wrote the HISA prescription, and the grant covered $6,800 of the cost.

1890s Ballardvale Victorian — slim-profile rail on steep original staircase

Ballardvale, MA Installed January 2026

An 1890s Victorian in the Ballardvale neighborhood with a steep, narrow staircase only 31 inches wide between the original banister and the plaster wall. The brown-upholstered seat sits at the bottom of the stairs next to the family’s hallway console table. The dense old-growth hardwood treads gave the slim-profile rail solid anchoring — folded, the seat and rail together take up just 11 inches, leaving 20 inches of clear passage for Mr. Pendleton’s visiting grandchildren. We never touched the original banister, crown molding, or century-old newel post.

Indian Ridge raised ranch — outdoor lift on icy front entry steps

Indian Ridge, MA Installed December 2025

A 1972 raised ranch in Indian Ridge with a front entry and six concrete steps that ice over every winter during nor’easters. Mrs. Lindgren fell on the top step during a January ice storm and broke her wrist. Her daughter called us from Boston while she was still at Lawrence General. We measured the entry steps, installed the outdoor lift with heated rail contacts to prevent ice buildup, marine-grade stainless fasteners to resist the freeze-thaw cycle, and a fitted weather cover. The battery backup kept the lift running through a three-day February power outage. Mrs. Lindgren hasn’t worried about those steps since.

High Plain colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs, same-week install

High Plain, MA Installed November 2025

A 1985 colonial in the High Plain neighborhood with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mr. Perkins’s son in Connecticut called on Monday, we measured Tuesday morning, and the install crew was at the house Thursday. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The seat folds flat against the wall, and the wider treads in this newer construction made it one of the cleanest installs we’ve done in Andover. Mr. Perkins says it’s the quietest machine in the house.

Platform Lift

Main Street home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Main Street, MA Installed October 2025

A two-story colonial near downtown Andover on Main Street where Mr. Walsh uses a power wheelchair full-time after a service-connected spinal injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren can’t activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered the full $6,800 service-connected maximum, and the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver covered the remaining balance through his case manager at Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley. Mr. Walsh rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without ever leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Andover Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Andover, MA?

Straight rails in standard Andover homes — the colonials along Main Street, the Shawsheen Village cottages, the raised ranches in High Plain — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for landing turns in West Andover split-levels and Ballardvale Victorians run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and icy porch steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Andover prices different from Lawrence or Lowell?

Equipment prices are identical across the Merrimack Valley — we don’t inflate or discount based on town. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: steep Victorian treads in Ballardvale, split-level landing fabrication in West Andover, and the freeze-rated lubricant and winterized motor housing we spec as standard on every Andover install (those are baseline, not upcharges). We list every line item on the written quote so you see exactly what you’re paying for.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story condo?

Moving costs in Essex County — real estate commission, closing costs, packing, new deposit — typically run $25,000 to $50,000 minimum in today’s Andover market, where median home prices top $800,000. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you’ve lived in for decades, near Phillips Academy, near your doctors at Lawrence General. For most Andover families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing in Andover?

Yes. We offer fixed-rate financing from $79 per month with no prepayment penalties. Most Andover homeowners choose 36- or 60-month terms. You can also combine financing with VA HISA grant funds, MassHealth coverage, or MassAbility’s Home Modification Loan Program to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket cost. We walk you through every option during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Andover families usually call after something has already happened — a slip on the carpeted stairs in a Shawsheen Village colonial, a father who hasn’t been to the second floor since knee surgery at Lawrence General, a daughter in Boston worried about her mother alone in a four-bedroom Phillips Academy–area home she’s owned since 1986.

I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure the staircase once, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
