Stairlift Service Across Essex County

Essex County, MA

From the postwar colonials along Lowell Street and Washington Street in West Peabody — where 13-15-tread straight runs and a newel post at the bottom are standard — to the raised ranches and split-levels near Route 1 where the half-staircase from the front entry to the main floor is the single most requested install we handle, our team has measured every staircase pattern Peabody produces. We know which South Peabody colonials have the tight upper-landing turn that requires a custom-curved rail, which Peabody Square two-families have the narrow 33-inch staircase where only a slim-profile rail keeps second-floor access clear, and which North Peabody and Presidential Heights ranches have the split-entry that needs both flights covered. We also serve Danvers, Lynnfield, Salem, Saugus, and Wakefield from the same Essex County crew.

Straight

West Peabody colonial — straight rail on original dark oak treads

West Peabody, MA Installed February 2026

A 1958 West Peabody colonial with original dark oak open-tread stairs and a straight 14-step run from the front hall to the upstairs bedrooms. Mrs. O'Brien has kept the oak polished since she moved in as a young mother in 1961. She was clear from the first call: the banister stays exactly as it is. We matched the rail bracket color to the oak grain, bolted the track into the treads only — never touching a spindle or the newel post at the bottom — and had her riding in three and a half hours. The beige seat folds flat against the wall at the bottom landing when not in use. Mrs. O'Brien called the next morning to say she had slept in her own bedroom for the first time in four months.

South Peabody colonial — curved rail past a 90-degree upper landing

South Peabody, MA Installed March 2026

A 1962 colonial on the South Peabody side with a formal staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing — the seat parks at the top floor, right where the hallway begins. Mr. Callahan at 81 could not safely make that turn on foot. His daughter had called two other Essex County companies and been told he'd need two separate lifts. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated one curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the upper landing, and installed the swivel-exit seat so Mr. Callahan steps off directly onto the hallway floor rather than the top tread. The chandelier above the landing stays untouched, and the framed art on the stairwell wall never came down.

Straight

Peabody Square two-family — straight rail in a compact cottage staircase

Peabody Square, MA Installed December 2025

A 1940s two-family near Peabody Square with stone-trimmed treads and a compact staircase barely 33 inches wide between wall and banister — the kind of traditional cottage-scale layout that two companies had told Mrs. Marchetti wouldn't fit a stairlift without major modifications. We brought the slim-profile rail, confirmed clearance next to the wooden sideboard she keeps at the bottom landing with a potted plant on top, and installed without moving a single piece of furniture or touching the period-original banister. The seat tucks flat in the cozy entry area. Mrs. Marchetti's upstairs tenant walks past daily without adjusting.

Outdoor

North Peabody raised entry — outdoor rail on a stone-paved front porch

North Peabody, MA Installed November 2025

The Sullivan family's 1970s colonial has a raised front porch with six stone-paved steps that had become treacherous every winter since Mr. Sullivan's knee replacement in 2024. The interior stairs were manageable; the stone front entry was not. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor rail with a cream-colored seat and marine-grade stainless hardware, rated for the salt air and Nor'easters Essex County delivers. The seat sits at the stone paving at the bottom, rides up past the carpeted outdoor tread at the base of the porch, and parks at the front door. Mr. Sullivan shovels his walk again — he just doesn't carry the bags up the porch steps anymore.

Downtown Peabody colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs with landing

Downtown Peabody, MA Installed January 2026

A colonial near downtown Peabody with wall-to-wall carpet on every tread and a small landing halfway up. Mr. DiMaggio had fallen on this exact staircase twice in the past year. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet color almost exactly — something his wife specifically appreciated. We used longer mounting bolts to compress through the carpet pad and reach the structural subfloor, added the powered footrest so there's no bending required, and confirmed the tile floor at the bottom of the landing provides a stable dismount surface. Completed before noon. He walked back up under his own control that afternoon.

Platform Lift

Presidential Heights ranch — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a split-entry

Presidential Heights, MA Installed October 2025

Mrs. Flaherty's Presidential Heights ranch has a split-entry staircase — eight steps from the garage level to the main living floor — and since her stroke in 2023 she has been using a wheelchair full-time. Transferring to a seated lift was not an option. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip surface and yellow high-visibility safety edges along the platform perimeter. The white handrail runs alongside the orange-painted stairwell wall. Mrs. Flaherty rolls her chair onto the platform, presses the control, and rides to the main floor without ever leaving her wheelchair. Her son said they had been touring assisted-living facilities over those eight steps.

Common Questions

Everything Peabody Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Peabody right now?

Straight rails in standard Peabody colonials and split-levels run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. These cover the full-flight colonials of West Peabody and the half-flight split-entry installs common throughout the city. Curved rails — needed for any staircase with a turn, mid-landing, or upper-landing 90° change, as seen in South Peabody colonials — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor installs for raised entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-pack battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Peabody than in Salem or Lynn?

Equipment prices are the same across the North Shore — we don't vary pricing by zip code or town. What occasionally varies is install labor for unusual conditions: a West Peabody colonial with original hardwood that requires extra care at the newel, an outdoor install on an iced granite entry, or a split-entry install that needs two separate rail segments. We list every line item on the written quote before anything begins. No surprise North Shore premiums.

Why are curved rails so much more expensive than straight?

A straight rail is a standard aluminum extrusion cut to length — the same part works in every house. A curved rail is manufactured for your specific staircase: we laser-scan the treads, the landing turn, and the upper exit point, then a CNC machine bends a single piece of rail to match your geometry within 2mm. That fabrication takes 10-14 days and the tooling cost drives the price. In Peabody, the most common curved installs are the 90-degree landing turns in South Peabody colonials where the builder put a half-landing between floors.

Is a wheelchair platform lift more expensive than a seated stairlift?

Yes. Indoor wheelchair platform lifts run $8,000 to $14,000 installed, depending on the vertical rise and whether the installation requires structural reinforcement. But for a household where the user cannot transfer from a wheelchair to a seated lift and back — the split-entry layouts common in older Peabody homes are the typical scenario — the platform lift is the only option that keeps someone in their home. We price it against the monthly cost of the assisted-living facility families are usually comparing it to.

A word from Luis

Peabody keeps surprising people — 24% of this city is over 65, which makes it one of the most senior-concentrated communities on the entire North Shore. I field calls weekly from adult children who just found out their parent hasn't been upstairs to their West Peabody colonial bedroom since the last Nor'easter, or from a homeowner near Peabody Square who's been sleeping on the couch for three months and hasn't told anyone.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. Free assessment, same week you call.
