Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Middlesex County

Middlesex County, MA

From the 1920s Colonials of Chestnut Hill with wide oak treads and mahogany banisters to the postwar Capes of Waban and Auburndale with narrow 34-inch stairwells, our team has mapped every staircase pattern across Newton's 13 villages. We know which West Newton Hill Victorians have the 90-degree landing turns that require curved rails, which Newton Lower Falls stone cottages need tread-shimmed mounts for settled floors, and which Newtonville two-families need platform lifts for wheelchair users. Newton Centre and Newton Highlands account for the highest volume of straight-rail installs — standard two-story colonials and raised-entry Capes. Because Newton sits at the junction of I-90 and Route 128, we also cover Watertown, Brookline, Needham, Waltham, Wellesley, and Belmont from the same crew — no scheduling delays, no travel surcharges.

Chestnut Hill Colonial — straight rail on original oak treads, banister untouched

Chestnut Hill, MA Installed March 2026

A 1928 Colonial in Chestnut Hill with wide oak treads, a mahogany banister, and an Oriental runner up the middle. Mrs. Warren's partial knee replacement meant stairs were off-limits. We bolted the straight rail into the oak treads along the wall side, color-matched the finish to the existing grain, and left the banister and runner untouched after 96 years. The seat folds flat at the bottom landing next to the foyer table.

Curved

West Newton Hill Victorian — curved rail bends 90° at the upper landing

West Newton, MA Installed February 2026

An 1894 Queen Anne on Cherry Street in the Historic District. The staircase turns 90 degrees at the upper landing into a 30-inch-wide hallway. Two competitors recommended two separate lifts with a mid-landing transfer. We laser-scanned the geometry, fabricated a single curved rail, and installed a swivel-exit seat that parks flush with the upstairs hallway. The century-old turned-spindle banister was never touched.

Newton Lower Falls stone cottage — compact rail beside the sideboard

Newton Lower Falls, MA Installed January 2026

A 1935 fieldstone cottage near the Charles River with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the foot of the stairs. The stone wall precluded wall-mounted brackets, so all mounts anchored directly into the treads. Original pine treads were uneven from 90 years of settling — the rail was shimmed at three points for a dead-level ride. The retired civil engineer homeowner verified with his own level and confirmed. The cottage feel is unchanged — compact, traditional, sideboard still in place.

Outdoor

Newton Highlands raised entry — outdoor rail anchored into bluestone paving

Newton Highlands, MA Installed December 2025

A 1940s Cape with seven bluestone entry steps and a raised front porch. Mr. Morrison was using a walker post-stroke and could not clear the entry — a ramp would extend 20 feet into the yard. We anchored the outdoor straight rail directly into the bluestone risers, sealed every bracket for Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycling, and added a weather cover for the cream-colored seat and controls. He rolls the walker right onto the porch now.

Waban Cape Cod — carpet-matched rail, same-day install

Waban, MA Installed November 2025

A 1952 postwar Cape in Waban with 34-inch-wide carpeted stairs running straight from the living room to the upstairs bedrooms. Mr. Kessler's orthopedic compression fracture meant stairs were off-limits. We measured Wednesday, installed Thursday. The rail bolts through the carpet into the treads — no carpet removal or re-stretching needed. The brown upholstery matches the carpet tones, and the chair folds flush so the grandchildren still run the stairs freely.

Platform Lift

Newtonville two-family — indoor wheelchair platform lift between floors

Newtonville, MA Installed October 2025

A 1920s two-family in Newtonville where the father is a full-time wheelchair user after a spinal cord injury — a seated stairlift was impossible. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip surface, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and interlocking gates along the indoor stairway. He rolls his chair onto the platform and rides between floors in about 40 seconds. He now visits upstairs for dinner three nights a week after a two-year gap.

Common Questions

Everything Newton Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Newton right now?

Straight rails in standard Newton homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for homes with 90-degree landing turns run $9,000 to $15,000 due to custom fabrication. Outdoor models run $4,000 to $7,500. All quotes include installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and first service visit.

Are prices higher in Chestnut Hill or West Newton Hill because of historic homes?

Equipment pricing is identical across all 13 villages. Cost increases stem from unusual install conditions: curved rails for Victorian landing turns, shimming for foundation-settled treads in pre-war homes, or dedicated circuits in homes with original 60-amp service. All costs itemized upfront.

Does the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver cover the full cost?

Yes, potentially. The waiver classifies stairlifts as home accessibility adaptations with approximately $10,000 lifetime cap — enough to cover straight or most curved rails. Eligibility requires Massachusetts residency, age 60+, MassHealth Standard qualification, and nursing-facility level care. Call MassOptions (1-800-243-4636) to start.

Can I deduct the stairlift on my Massachusetts taxes?

If a licensed physician recommends it in writing, the IRS classifies it as a qualified medical expense under Schedule A. Massachusetts conforms to federal treatment. Itemizing households may recover $700 to $2,800 depending on filing status. Must itemize rather than take standard deduction.

A word from Luis

Most Newton families call after something specific — a parent gripping the banister in a Chestnut Hill Colonial because the oak treads got slippery after waxing, a retired professor in Newton Centre who moved his office to the dining room because he stopped climbing to the study six months ago, a daughter in California who found out her 84-year-old father in Waban has been sleeping on the couch rather than face the stairs.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
