Stairlift Service Across Norfolk County

Norfolk County, MA

From the Queen Anne Victorians on Francis Street and Walnut Street in Brookline Village — where original carved banisters and turned spindles mean the rail has to thread past 1880s millwork without touching a single surface — to the Colonial Revivals and Tudors on Fisher Hill and Pill Hill where curved rails navigate 90-degree upper landings in homes built for families, not for the parents still living in them fifty years later, our team has mapped every pocket of Brookline's housing stock.

Brookline Village Queen Anne — straight rail on original dark oak treads

Brookline Village, MA Installed December 2025

A three-story Queen Anne Victorian on a side street off Washington Street with original quarter-sawn oak treads, dark-stained and worn smooth from a century of foot traffic. Mr. Hogan is 88 and still mows his own lawn but the stairs had become a twice-daily negotiation after a knee replacement at Beth Israel Deaconess. We bolted a straight rail directly into the oak treads on the right side, matched the hardware finish to the existing grain, and positioned the seat at the bottom landing. The newel post, turned spindles, and wallpaper are untouched.

Pill Hill Colonial — curved rail bends 90° at the upper landing

Pill Hill, MA Installed March 2026

A 1924 Colonial Revival inside the Pill Hill historic district with a formal staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper floor landing. Mrs. Whitfield had been sleeping on the first-floor den sofa since Thanksgiving after a fall on the upper landing. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the top, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the upper hallway so she steps off directly onto the landing floor. The chandelier above the stairwell and the framed art on the wall stayed untouched through the entire install.

Coolidge Corner two-family — compact straight rail next to grandmother's sideboard

Coolidge Corner, MA Installed February 2026

A 1910 two-family on a side street off Harvard Street where Mrs. Petrov has lived on the second floor since 1978. The original stone-tiled stair treads are set in a compact space — a wooden sideboard with a potted plant sits right at the base of the stairs. We spec'd a slim straight rail, bolted it into the treads without touching the sideboard or the spindles, and positioned the brown-upholstered seat so it folds flush in the tight cottage-like entry. The upstairs tenant walks past with groceries without turning sideways.

Outdoor

Washington Square — outdoor stoop lift on rough stone-paved entry

Washington Square, MA Installed October 2025

A 1915 single-family near Washington Square with a raised front porch entry and rough natural stone paving at the base of the steps. Mrs. Sullivan had been sent to the ER twice by black ice on these steps. We mounted a weather-sealed cream-colored seat on the outdoor rail, anchored into the stone-paved entry, and added a weather-resistant cover with cold-pack battery rated to -10°F. Natural daylight floods the covered porch above, and the non-slip footplate replaced the icy stone surface she used to dread every winter.

Chestnut Hill estate — straight rail on carpeted stairs with matching upholstery

Chestnut Hill, MA Installed November 2025

A 1938 Georgian Revival in Chestnut Hill with a wide carpeted staircase leading to a tiled landing at the bottom. Mr. Rearden's son arranged the assessment remotely from California. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the warm carpet tones on the treads, and we bolted the rail along the outer edge without moving or cutting a single inch of carpet. Wall-mounted light switches at the landing stayed accessible. The quiet-motor option means the den below stays undisturbed.

Platform Lift

Fisher Hill — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a veteran who cannot transfer

Fisher Hill, MA Installed January 2026

A Colonial Revival on Fisher Hill where Mr. Novak, a wheelchair user and VA patient at the Jamaica Plain campus, needed access to his second-floor bedroom without transferring to a seat. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip surface and high-visibility yellow safety edges along the indoor stairway. The white handrail matches the home's trim, and the orange-toned plaster walls of the stairwell frame the unit. His VA HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost — we prefilled Form 10-0103 the same week as the assessment.

Common Questions

Everything Brookline Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Brookline right now?

Straight rails in standard Brookline homes — a Coolidge Corner two-family, a Brookline Village duplex, a Washington Square pre-war apartment — run $2,900 to $5,800 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most Pill Hill and Fisher Hill Colonials with upper landings, and for the Beacon Street brownstone conversions with their formal staircases, run $9,500 to $16,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor stoop lifts for raised granite entries run $4,200 to $7,800 with the cold-weather battery pack standard. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Brookline than in Boston or Newton?

Equipment prices are the same across Greater Boston — we don't inflate quotes for Chestnut Hill or Fisher Hill addresses. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: condo-trustee filings along Beacon Street and Harvard Street, threading past original Victorian millwork in Brookline Village, and cold-weather scheduling when a Nor'easter moves an install window. We spell out every line item upfront. No surprise 'Brookline premiums.'

My Beacon Street condo charges an assessment for any building modification. Is that normal?

Common, but negotiable. Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 151B and the federal Fair Housing Act require condo trustees to grant reasonable accommodations for residents with documented disabilities — and a stairlift is about as reasonable as it gets. We've worked with over 30 Brookline condo buildings and have trustee-accommodation packets already templated for many of the Beacon Street and Harvard Street addresses. If a board charges a building assessment or asks for an engineer's letter, we tell you upfront and prepare the paperwork at no charge.

Do you charge extra for a bilingual consultation?

No. Every Brookline assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has worked consultations across the Greater Boston metro for over a decade. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish at no additional cost. For Russian, Mandarin, and other languages spoken in Brookline's diverse community, we bring in a phone interpreter at our cost — never yours.

A word from Luis

Most Brookline calls come from the same pattern — a daughter in New York who just learned her mother hasn't been upstairs in the Coolidge Corner two-family since the last ice storm, or a couple in a Fisher Hill Colonial who realized the master bedroom stairs aren't getting any shorter after a knee replacement at Beth Israel Deaconess.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
