Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Boston's triple-deckers — from Dorchester to Roslindale to Hyde Park.

Over 65% of the stairlifts we install in Boston are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall, never into that 1908 oak banister), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way so other tenants can still pass on a narrow triple-decker stair, and the cold-pack battery backup keeps you moving through the next Nor'easter outage. Most Boston installs wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $3,300 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across Suffolk County

Suffolk County, MA

From Beacon Hill Federal rowhouses to Dorchester triple-deckers, from the brownstones on Back Bay's Commonwealth Avenue to the 1860s bowfronts in the South End, our team has mapped every neighborhood in Boston. We know which Jamaica Plain streets still have the original 1910 triple-deckers with 34-inch-wide stairs, which Charlestown units sit inside the Bunker Hill historic overlay, which Roxbury Victorians have that 180° landing at the top of the second run, and which East Boston walkups need a Spanish-speaking installer from the first phone call.

Because Greater Boston sprawls across four counties, we staff dedicated specialists for the surrounding hubs — Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, Quincy, Milton, and Watertown — so you never wait on a tech driving down from New Hampshire or over from the South Shore.

Narrow Dorchester triple-decker — slim-profile rail on the original 1908 oak stair

Dorchester, MA Installed March 2026

A 1908 three-family on Savin Hill Avenue where Mrs. Flaherty has lived on the second floor since 1971. The original quarter-sawn oak banister runs 13 feet up a 33-inch-wide run — classic Dorchester triple-decker geometry. We spec'd our slimmest profile rail so the other tenants could still pass on the way to the third floor, bolted into the tread wood without touching a single spindle, and color-matched the rail hardware to the darker oak trim. Mrs. Flaherty's grandson, who lives on the first floor, didn't notice the lift for a full day.

Four-story Commonwealth Avenue brownstone — curved rail past the original newel

Back Bay, MA Installed February 2026

A 1878 Commonwealth Avenue brownstone where Dr. Ashcroft's parlor floor sits a full flight above the ground floor and the master bedroom is another two flights up. The stair is the original mahogany — three runs, two mid-landings, and a carved newel post at the base that the family absolutely refused to touch. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the newel without contact, and installed it in a single afternoon. The Back Bay Architectural Commission never had to be involved because nothing is visible from Commonwealth.

1812 Beacon Hill Federal — rail color-matched to the original mahogany

Beacon Hill, MA Installed January 2026

An 1812 Federal rowhouse on Mount Vernon Street with an original South Boston Navy Yard-era mahogany banister that Mrs. Holbrook's family has maintained for four generations. The Beacon Hill Architectural Commission has jurisdiction over anything visible from the street, but the stair sits behind the parlor and is fully interior — no BHAC filing needed. We brought mahogany color samples to the first visit, matched the rail finish to the wood, and parked the chair against the wall at the upper landing so it reads like an extension of the trim. Mrs. Holbrook's neighbors walked past it on a holiday house tour in December without noticing.

Jamaica Plain triple-decker — swivel-exit seat for a safer top-landing step-off

Jamaica Plain, MA Installed December 2025

A 1912 Centre Street three-family where Sra. Delgado has rented the second floor since 1994. Her biggest fear wasn't the ride — it was stepping off at the top, where her husband had fallen the winter before. Luis conducted the entire consultation in Spanish, installed the swivel-exit seat which rotates 90° at the upper landing so she stands on the hallway floor instead of the top tread, and walked her through every button twice at her request. One small detail, one fall prevented.

1871 South End bowfront — custom curve through the parlor-floor turn

South End, MA Installed November 2025

An 1871 brick bowfront on West Newton Street with the classic South End layout — a tall stoop out front, a parlor floor one flight up, and a curved interior stair that wraps around the front bay window. The South End Landmark District Commission has oversight of exterior work, but the interior install was unreviewed. We scanned the curve, fabricated a rail that traces the bow without touching the plaster, and installed it in a single afternoon. Mr. Okafor's mother, who visits every Sunday from Roslindale, hasn't missed a dinner upstairs since.

Roxbury Victorian — outdoor stoop lift built for Boston winters

Roxbury, MA Installed October 2025

A 1893 Victorian on Fort Avenue with a seven-step granite stoop that salt had pitted after 130 winters. Mr. Baptiste, a Haitian Creole-speaking Army veteran, needed weather-sealed exterior access funded through his VA HISA grant — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103, coordinated with the Jamaica Plain VA campus, and had approval in five weeks. The outdoor rail ships with marine-grade coating, a salt-resistant aluminum footplate, and a cold-pack battery rated to -10°F. It rode through the February 2025 blizzard with four days of continuous sub-zero temperatures and did not lose a single ride.

Common Questions

Everything Boston Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Boston right now?

Straight rails in standard Boston homes — a Dorchester triple-decker, a Roslindale bungalow, a Hyde Park walkup — run $2,900 to $5,800 installed. Curved rails, which we see constantly in Back Bay brownstones, Beacon Hill Federals, and South End bowfronts with their tight mid-landings, run $9,500 to $16,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor stoop lifts for Victorian porches in Roxbury and JP run $4,200 to $7,800 with the cold-weather battery pack standard. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Boston than other Massachusetts cities?

Equipment prices are the same as the rest of the state — we don't inflate quotes because you're on Commonwealth Avenue. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: Beacon Hill Architectural Commission filings for anything visible from the street, condo-trustee packets for Back Bay and Brookline buildings, and winter access when a Nor'easter closes a block for two days. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise "Boston premiums."

Do you charge extra for a Spanish-language or bilingual consultation?

No. Every Boston assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — our installer Luis is bilingual and has worked consultations in East Boston, Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and Chelsea for over a decade. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. For Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Vietnamese we bring in a phone interpreter at our cost — never yours.

Any hidden fees for a Back Bay or Brookline condo?

Our quote includes the trustee paperwork we handle for you — we've worked with 60+ Greater Boston buildings from Beacon Hill to Coolidge Corner, so the accommodation packets are already templated. What can add cost (rarely) is when a building requires its own engineer's letter or the Boston Landmarks Commission asks for a historic-district application on an exterior stoop lift. If that happens, we tell you before we start — not after.

A word from Luis

Most Boston families call me after the first bad winter — a slip on an iced-over Beacon Hill brick sidewalk, a parent who hasn't come down from the third floor of a Dorchester triple-decker since Thanksgiving, a daughter calling from California worried about her father in a Back Bay brownstone with four flights of brownstone stairs.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
