Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Waltham's postwar Colonials, Cape Cods, and two-family homes.

Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Waltham are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall, never into your 1940s oak banister), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way so other household members can still pass on a narrow two-family stair, and the cold-pack battery backup keeps you moving through the next Nor'easter outage. Most Waltham installs wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $3,200 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across Middlesex County

Middlesex County, MA

From the postwar Cape Cods and Colonials of Warrendale -- where the typical stair is a single straight run from the front hall up to three bedrooms and the landing is narrow enough that a standard seat just barely clears the wall -- to the two-family wood-framed homes on the South Side where the second-floor tenant hasn't come downstairs since the ice arrived in December, our team has mapped every block in Waltham. We know which Piety Corner Colonials have the original 1940s oak stair that the homeowner will not let anyone drill into (we bolt into the treads, not the banister), which Roberts neighborhood homes near the Brandeis/Roberts MBTA stop are condo conversions that need trustee approval before a bolt goes in, and which Waltham Highlands Cape Cods have the half-story attic stair that requires a compact-profile rail.

Because the MetroWest corridor runs from Watertown through Waltham to Weston and Lexington, we also staff dedicated coverage for Belmont, Newton, Watertown, and Lexington so you never wait on a tech driving up from the South Shore.

1949 Warrendale Colonial -- straight rail on the original oak stair

Warrendale, MA Installed March 2026

A 1949 Colonial Revival on a quiet Warrendale street with original dark oak treads and a banister the Callahan family has maintained since they bought the house in 1978. Mrs. Callahan had a knee replacement in January and hadn't been upstairs to her own bedroom since. We mounted a beige-upholstered straight rail into the oak treads -- never touching the banister -- and parked the seat at the bottom landing so it folds flat against the wall when not in use. She was back in her own bed that evening.

South Side two-family -- curved rail around the upper-floor landing turn

South Side, MA Installed February 2026

A 1908 two-family on the South Side where Sra. Medeiros has lived on the second floor for 31 years. The stair has a 90-degree turn at the upper landing where it meets the second-floor hallway -- a common layout in Waltham's early-1900s two-families. We laser-scanned the geometry on visit one, fabricated a curved rail that carries her from the front entry to the second-floor hall in one continuous ride, and installed a swivel-exit seat so she steps off onto the hallway floor. The brown-upholstered chair parks flush at the top landing next to two framed photographs her late husband hung in 1996.

Piety Corner Cape Cod -- compact rail beside the hall sideboard

Piety Corner, MA Installed January 2026

A 1952 Cape Cod near Piety Corner with the classic New England layout: a narrow front hall, a wooden sideboard against the wall, and a steep stair up to the half-story bedrooms with stone-tile treads at the base. The Arsenaults had been told by two other companies that the space was too tight. We spec'd the compact-profile rail, mounted the brown-upholstered seat so it tucks beside the sideboard when parked, and kept the traditional feel of the front hall intact. Mrs. Arsenault said it looked like it had always been there.

Waltham Highlands raised entry -- weather-sealed lift on the stone front steps

Waltham Highlands, MA Installed December 2025

A 1940s Colonial in Waltham Highlands with a raised stone-paved front entry -- six steps from the driveway to the front door, and every one of them slick with ice from November through March. Mr. Petrov is 79 and had fallen on those steps twice in the winter of 2024. We anchored a weather-sealed outdoor rail through the stone treads, fitted a cream-upholstered UV-resistant seat, and routed the battery junction inside the front vestibule so the cold-pack stays above freezing. The lift rode through two Nor'easters that first winter without a service call.

Roberts neighborhood condo -- carpeted stairs, trustee-approved install

Roberts, MA Installed November 2025

A two-bedroom condo in a converted Roberts neighborhood property near the Brandeis/Roberts MBTA stop. Mrs. Chen's unit spans two levels with a carpeted stair between the living area and the bedrooms. The condo trustees required a full accommodation packet before approving the install -- we prepared it under Massachusetts Chapter 151B and had board approval in 11 business days. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones, the rail bolts through the carpet into the subfloor treads, and the fold-up design keeps the stair clear for her visiting grandchildren.

Platform Lift

North Waltham split-level -- indoor wheelchair platform for a veteran who cannot transfer

North Waltham, MA Installed October 2025

A 1960s split-level ranch in North Waltham where Mr. Kowalski, a Gulf War veteran with a spinal cord injury, uses a power wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway between the lower entry and the main living level -- a flat anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges and a white handrail that carries the chair and rider in one smooth run. His VA HISA grant covered the full cost. The platform folds flat against the wall so his wife and visiting family walk the stairs normally.

Common Questions

Everything Waltham Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Waltham right now?

Straight rails in standard Waltham homes -- the postwar Cape Cods in Warrendale, the Colonials on Piety Corner, the two-families on the South Side -- run $2,900 to $5,600 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for the occasional L-shaped landing in an older South Side two-family or a converted mill condo with an industrial-era staircase, run $9,500 to $15,500 because the rail is fabricated to your exact geometry. Outdoor stoop lifts for raised front entries on pre-war homes run $4,200 to $7,800 with the cold-pack battery standard. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Waltham prices different from the rest of MetroWest?

Equipment prices are identical whether you're in Waltham, Belmont, Newton, or Watertown -- we don't mark up for zip code. What occasionally adds a line item is Waltham-specific work: a condo-trustee accommodation packet for a converted mill building, a dedicated 20-amp circuit in a 1920s home still running original wiring (requires a Massachusetts-licensed journeyman or master electrician), or winter-access scheduling when a Nor'easter delays the install by a day. We quote the line items separately and you see every one before you sign.

Do you charge extra for a Spanish- or Portuguese-language consultation?

No. Every Waltham assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request -- Luis is bilingual and has walked families on the South Side and throughout the MetroWest corridor through every line of the paperwork in Spanish for over a decade. For Portuguese-speaking families in Waltham's growing Brazilian community, we coordinate a phone interpreter at our cost -- never yours. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Any hidden fees for condo or multi-family installs?

Our quote includes the condo-trustee paperwork we handle for you. Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 151B and the federal Fair Housing Act require trustees to grant reasonable accommodations for disabled residents -- we prepare the full packet with medical-necessity letter template, equipment specs, installation drawing, insurance certificate, and our HIC registration number. We've worked with converted mill condos along the Charles River, multi-unit buildings on the South Side, and condo associations in Warrendale. If a board requires its own engineer's letter, we tell you before we start.

A word from Luis

Most Waltham calls start the same way: someone's parent hasn't been upstairs in weeks. It's a Cape Cod in Warrendale where the second-floor bedrooms are up a narrow stair that was fine in 1948 but impossible after a knee replacement. A two-family on the South Side where abuela lives on the second floor and hasn't come down since November. A Colonial Revival near Piety Corner where the daughter drove in from Newton and realized her mother has been sleeping on the couch for a month.

My job is simple: get to your Waltham address within 24 hours, measure once, and hold the price for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En espanol si lo prefiere.
