Straight Stairlift

Most common in Delaware County

The workhorse of Delaware County’s two-story homes — from McKinley to Yorktown. Over 65% of the stairlifts we install across Muncie and Delaware County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your existing stair treads (never into the wall, never into the original banister), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the cold-weather LiFePO4 battery keeps you moving through polar-vortex nights and storm-season power outages that hit east-central Indiana multiple times a year.

Starting at $2,400 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across Delaware County

Delaware County, IN

The Old West End Historic District holds 28 blocks of late Victorian architecture — Queen Anne, Free Classic, Colonial Revival — built during the gas-boom era. Original turned-spindle banisters and heart-pine treads mean our rail bolts into treads only, never touching millwork. The Emily Kimbrough Historic District along East Washington and Monroe has the same preservation requirements. Westwood, a National Register Craftsman-and-Prairie neighborhood, has simpler staircase geometries and wider porches. Riverside-Normal City, anchored by the Ball State campus edge and the White River corridor, has its own historic character. McKinley near Muncie Central holds early-20th-century two-stories where homeowners have been in place for decades. Kenmore features 1930s–40s Colonial Revival, Cape Cod, and Tudor homes near Guthrie Park.

Old West End Victorian — straight rail on original heart-pine treads

Old West End, IN Installed March 2026

An 1892 Queen Anne in the Old West End Historic District with original heart-pine treads and a turned-spindle banister built during the gas-boom era. Mrs. Whitfield needed a lift but insisted on preserving every spindle. We bolted a straight rail directly into the dark hardwood treads — self-supporting, no contact with the banister or wall — and parked the seat at the bottom landing where it folds flat against the rail. The warm-toned wood and the cream seat blend with the home’s original character. Her neighbor across the brick street called for a quote two weeks later.

Emily Kimbrough District — curved rail around upper landing half-wall

Emily Kimbrough Historic District, IN Installed February 2026

A Free Classic home in the Emily Kimbrough Historic District with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing and a half-wall balustrade separating the stairwell from the upstairs hallway. Mr. Caldwell, 81, hadn’t been upstairs since a hip replacement at IU Health Ball Memorial. We laser-scanned the full staircase, fabricated a curved rail that bends smoothly around the half-wall, and parked the seat at the upper floor landing where he steps off directly onto the hallway. The modern European-influenced interior — chandelier above, framed art on the walls — pairs well with the brown upholstery we specified.

Kenmore cottage — compact straight rail beside the sideboard

Kenmore, IN Installed January 2026

A 1940s Cape Cod in Kenmore with stone-and-tile treads, a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs, and a potted plant the Stricklands refused to move. The stairwell is compact — traditional cottage proportions, no room for a wide rail. We fitted a slim-profile straight rail bolted into the stone treads, positioned the seat to clear the sideboard by two inches, and matched the brown upholstery to the warm tones of the home’s interior. Cozy space, zero clearance issues.

Riverside-Normal City — outdoor lift on stone-paved front porch

Riverside-Normal City, IN Installed December 2025

A 1920s home in Riverside-Normal City near the Ball State campus edge, with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry. Mr. Darnell is a Vietnam-era veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Muncie VA Clinic at 3401 N Morrison Road. The outdoor lift’s cream-colored weather-resistant seat handles the freeze-thaw cycles and ice storms that hit Delaware County every winter. The IP55-sealed motor housing and cold-weather LiFePO4 battery ran through the full 2025–2026 winter without a service call.

McKinley two-story — straight rail over carpeted treads

McKinley, IN Installed November 2025

An early-1900s two-story near Muncie Central High School with 14 carpeted treads and a landing area at the top. Mrs. Landers had been gripping the handrail with both hands since a fall in October. The mounting bolts pass through the carpet into the wooden substructure — no carpet removal, no seam damage. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones, and the seat and footrest fold flat against the wall so the stairwell stays clear. Three hours on-site. Mrs. Landers went upstairs to her bedroom that evening for the first time in six weeks.

Platform Lift

Yorktown ranch — indoor wheelchair platform lift to basement

Yorktown, IN Installed October 2025

A 1975 ranch in Yorktown with a finished basement den and laundry below the main level. Mr. Berger, 78, is a retired Borg-Warner machinist who uses a wheelchair after a stroke and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. The orange-toned walls and natural light from the stairwell window frame the unit. Mr. Berger rolls his wheelchair onto the platform, rides down to the basement, and handles his own laundry again.

Common Questions

Everything Muncie Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Muncie right now?

Straight rails in standard Muncie homes — the McKinley two-stories, the Westwood bungalows, the post-war homes around Kenmore — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you’ll need for most Old West End Victorians with a landing turn and Emily Kimbrough district homes with split-level entries, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts on raised front porches in Riverside-Normal City and the Old West End run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different for homes inside the Old West End or Emily Kimbrough historic districts?

Equipment prices are identical across every Muncie ZIP and throughout Delaware County. We do not charge a premium for historic district addresses. What can vary slightly is labor for unusual conditions — threading a curved rail past an 1890s turned-spindle banister in the Old West End, custom bracket spacing on pre-code treads that don’t match modern dimensions, or shimming rail mounts where gas-boom-era foundations have settled over 130 years. Every line item appears on the written quote before you sign.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Our installer Luis conducts home assessments in Spanish on request at zero surcharge. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. Zero extra charge, same service.

Muncie home values are lower than Indianapolis or Fishers. Does that affect pricing?

No. Equipment and installation cost the same whether the home is assessed at $85,000 or $850,000. Muncie’s affordability actually means the Indiana PathWays for Aging Waiver’s environmental modification benefit covers a higher proportion of the install — often the entire straight-rail cost plus battery backup. We walk through the math during the free assessment so you know what your out-of-pocket is before you commit.

A word from Luis

Most Muncie families call me after a conversation that should have happened months ago — a parent who slipped on the gas-boom-era treads in an Old West End Victorian, a Ball State retiree in Westwood who stopped going upstairs after a knee replacement but won’t mention it, a daughter in Indianapolis who drove up for a weekend visit and found her mother sleeping on the living room couch.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a written price honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
