The workhorse of Lafayette ranches, bungalows, and postwar two-stories. Roughly 70% of the stairlifts we install in Tippecanoe County are a single straight run. The rail bolts into your stair treads, the seat folds up out of the way, and the cold-weather battery backup keeps you moving through the worst of an Indiana winter. Most Lafayette installs wrap in under four hours.

Stairlift Service Across Tippecanoe County

Tippecanoe County, IN

Ninth Street Hill is where the hardest installs happen — pre-1900 Queen Annes and Folk Victorians with steep stairs, original walnut banisters, and half-landing turns that require custom curved rails threaded past historic spindles without touching them. The Lafayette Historic Preservation Commission reviews exterior porch lifts on contributing structures; we handle the HPC application. East of downtown, Historic Centennial, Highlands Park, and Columbian Park hold early-20th-century bungalows and postwar ranches — mostly straight-rail territory, done in under four hours. South and east, the 1960s-1970s split-levels off Creasy Lane and South 18th Street have the landing turn that requires a curved rail. Across the river in West Lafayette, the New Chauncey and Hills & Dales neighborhoods hold older professorial homes where adult children often call us from out of state on their parents' behalf.

Columbian Park ranch — beige seat on dark oak basement stairs

Columbian Park, IN Installed February 2026

A 1958 brick ranch a few blocks from Columbian Park with original dark hardwood stairs from the main floor to a finished walkout basement. Mrs. Engel's mother moved in after a fall at her house in Dayton, and the 12-step oak run to the den was the barrier. We bolted the rail into the treads, placed the beige seat at the bottom landing, and had it running in three hours. The warm oak treads and the seat at the base of the staircase look like they belong together.

1889 Ninth Street Hill Queen Anne — curved rail past original turned spindles

Ninth Street Hill, IN Installed March 2026

An 1889 Queen Anne inside the Ninth Street Hill National Historic District with a steep staircase that curves at the upper landing past original turned walnut spindles. We digitally scanned the geometry, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the top floor, and parked the brown seat where Mrs. Pemberton steps off onto the upstairs hallway. The chandelier above and the framed art on the wall were never touched — the rail threads past every detail of this upscale Victorian interior.

Historic Centennial bungalow — straight rail past the hallway sideboard

Historic Centennial, IN Installed January 2026

A 1921 Craftsman bungalow in the Historic Centennial neighborhood with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard built into the narrow hallway alongside the stairs. We measured the clearance on the first visit, specified the narrow-profile rail on the opposite side, and mounted the brown seat to ride past the family's sideboard with inches to spare. The compact cottage layout and traditional tile treads are typical of this neighborhood's pre-war housing stock.

New Chauncey colonial — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry

New Chauncey (West Lafayette), IN Installed December 2025

A 1948 colonial in the New Chauncey neighborhood above the Wabash River bank with a raised stone-paved front entry and five exterior steps from the walkway to the front door. Dr. Narayanan is a retired Purdue engineering professor whose daughter called from Seattle after his knee replacement at Franciscan Health. We installed the cream outdoor seat on the stone paving, sealed every bracket against Indiana's freeze-thaw cycle, and had it running before he came home from surgery. The natural stone floor and covered porch entry stay exactly as they were.

South Lafayette split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs to the bedrooms

South Lafayette, IN Installed January 2026

A 1972 split-level south of Twykenham with carpeted stairs from the main living level up to the bedrooms. Mrs. Harmon's mother moved in after a hip replacement and the carpet-covered treads felt slippery under her walker. We installed a straight rail on the upper run, mounting through the carpet into the treads below. The brown seat blends with the carpet tones, and the swivel-exit at the landing lets her step off onto the tiled hallway floor without pivoting on the top tread.

Platform Lift

East Lafayette ranch — indoor wheelchair platform for a Subaru retiree

East Lafayette, IN Installed November 2025

A 1965 ranch off Creasy Lane where Mr. Stoltz, retired after 34 years at the SIA Subaru plant, now uses a power wheelchair after a spinal injury. The standard seated stairlift wasn't an option — he can't transfer from the chair. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway from the main floor to the finished basement, with a flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a keyed call station at both landings. The sealed motor housing has run through two full Indiana winters without a service call.

Common Questions

Everything Lafayette Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Lafayette right now?

Straight rails in standard Lafayette homes — the Columbian Park ranches, the Historic Centennial bungalows, the two-story colonials off Veterans Memorial Parkway — install for $2,800 to $5,500. Curved rails, which you'll need for most Ninth Street Hill Victorians and the 1960s-1970s split-levels south of Twykenham, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to the exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts for raised front porches and basement walkout entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-weather battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Lafayette versus West Lafayette or the rest of Tippecanoe County?

Equipment prices are identical across the Lafayette-West Lafayette metro and surrounding Tippecanoe County — we don't charge a zip code premium for West Lafayette or Battle Ground. What varies slightly is labor when we hit special conditions: banister preservation on Ninth Street Hill's pre-1900 Victorians, Historic Preservation Commission paperwork for exterior porch lifts on contributing structures, or a dedicated electrical circuit in a home with a 60-amp panel. Every line item goes on the written quote before you sign anything.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a ranch or a first-floor bedroom?

In the Lafayette market, a straight stairlift install at $2,800 to $5,500 is roughly equivalent to two months of mortgage payments on a median Tippecanoe County home. A first-floor bedroom conversion — framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, a bathroom — runs $25,000 to $60,000 and takes 8 to 16 weeks. Moving from a paid-off house to a single-story rental adds $900 to $1,400 a month in new housing costs that never stop. The stairlift is installed in a day, keeps you in the home you own, and has no recurring cost beyond the occasional service call.

Do you charge a trip fee this far from Indianapolis?

No. We cover all of Tippecanoe County, Carroll County, and Clinton County with zero travel surcharge. Lafayette is 65 miles from Indianapolis and we staff it as a regular service area, not a remote call. No mileage add-ons. No fuel surcharges. The price on the written quote is the price you pay.

A word from Luis

Most Lafayette families call me after something quiet and specific — a father who stopped going downstairs to his workshop because his knees gave out on the return trip, a Purdue professor's mother who moved in after a fall at her own house in Dayton and can't handle the basement stairs, a widow on Ninth Street Hill who hasn't slept in her own bedroom since October because the 1890s staircase is too steep. My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
