Stairlift Service Across King County

King County, WA

From the 1950s-1970s ramblers of East Hill — where the conversation is almost always about narrow stairwells, worn carpet treads, and split-level landings that make a straight rail impossible — to the hillside homes on West Hill where exterior stairs from the driveway to the front entry are the real fall risk during Kent's eight-month rain season, our team has measured every staircase style this city produces. We know which Scenic Hill tri-levels north of Maple Street need a curved rail to clear the mid-landing, which Panther Lake homes have the newer wide-stair construction that installs in three hours flat, and which Meridian Valley waterfront properties require the outdoor-rated marine coating because the persistent humidity accelerates corrosion faster than standard King County conditions.

1960s East Hill rambler — straight rail on original hardwood oak treads

East Hill, WA Installed March 2026

A 1963 rambler on the east side of Kent with original red-oak stair treads running from the lower family room to the main living level. Mrs. Nakamura retired from the Kent School District after 31 years and had been gripping both handrails going up and down since a fall in December. Her daughter in Bellevue called us after the second near-miss. We measured on Monday, installed Thursday. The rail bolts directly into the oak treads — no wall anchors, no damage to the original birch paneling along the stairwell. The chair folds flat against the wall at the top landing so the grandchildren still use the stairs freely on weekends. Mrs. Nakamura told us she went upstairs to her sewing room for the first time in two months the evening we finished.

Scenic Hill tri-level — curved rail wrapping the upper landing turn

Scenic Hill, WA Installed February 2026

A 1972 tri-level on Scenic Hill north of Maple Street — the classic South King County layout with a foyer, six steps up to the kitchen and living area, then a 90-degree landing and eight more steps to the bedrooms. Mr. Andersen had both knees replaced at Valley Medical Center in Renton within 14 months and the landing turn made a straight rail impossible. We laser-scanned the entire run during the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the foyer to the upper hallway without a transfer, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps off onto level floor instead of the top tread. The Pacific Northwest humidity had slightly warped two treads over 54 years — we shimmed the rail brackets to compensate and the ride is perfectly level top to bottom.

West Hill cottage — straight rail on stone-accent staircase in a compact entry

West Hill, WA Installed January 2026

A renovated 1958 cottage on West Hill with a compact interior staircase — decorative flagstone facing on the risers, a wooden sideboard at the bottom landing, and a wrought-iron railing the family did not want touched. Mrs. Petrov's mother moved in after a stroke and the stone-tread stairs between her ground-level bedroom and the kitchen were unpredictable on high-fatigue days. We mounted the slim-profile rail with masonry anchors into the stone treads, threading the brackets so the chair parks at the bottom next to the sideboard without blocking the hallway. The wrought-iron railing stayed untouched. Mrs. Petrov's mother has used it every morning and evening since January — her physical therapist confirmed the stone treads were the highest fall-risk surface in the house, and now she doesn't have to step on them at all.

Outdoor

Panther Lake entry — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone paving steps

Panther Lake, WA Installed December 2025

A 1980s ranch-style home in Panther Lake with a raised front entry — seven exterior stone paving steps from the driveway to the front door, exposed to Kent's 37 inches of annual rainfall and the moss that grows on anything horizontal between October and April. Mr. Douglas is a retired warehouse supervisor who qualified for a COPES waiver through DSHS after a hip replacement left him unable to manage the front entry steps safely. We handled the ALTSA paperwork on his behalf, installed a marine-grade outdoor rail with the corrosion coating standard on every Washington install, and added a non-slip footrest plate for wet conditions. The rail has run through an entire Pacific Northwest winter — November through March — without a service call. DSHS paid directly; Mr. Douglas never wrote a check.

Kent Station district townhouse — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Kent Station District, WA Installed November 2025

A 2008 townhouse near Kent Station with standard carpeted stairs — the newer construction that installs fast. Mrs. Chen had been diagnosed with MS two years earlier and the stairs between the garage-level entry and the main living floor were becoming unpredictable on high-fatigue days. Her husband called on a Tuesday, we measured Wednesday, and installed Friday. The rail bolts through the carpet into the stair treads beneath — no carpet removal, no repadding, no mess. The seat folds flat against the wall so the narrow stairwell stays passable. Mrs. Chen told us she stopped planning her day around which floor she could reach.

Platform Lift

East Hill accessible retrofit — indoor wheelchair platform lift with safety edges

East Hill, WA Installed October 2025

A 1970s split-level on East Hill where Mr. Tran — a Vietnam-era veteran enrolled at VA Puget Sound — needed full wheelchair access between the lower garage level and the main living floor. A seated stairlift would have required a transfer at both ends, which his spinal injury made unsafe. We specified an indoor vertical platform lift with yellow safety edges on the platform perimeter, interlocked gates at both levels, and a battery backup rated for extended outages. The VA HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and coordinated directly with the Puget Sound HISA office. The platform is 36 by 54 inches, fits his power chair with clearance to spare, and the yellow edge markings meet ADA visibility standards. His wife told us it was the first time in four years he could get to the kitchen without help.

Common Questions

Everything Kent Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Kent right now?

Straight rails in standard Kent homes — the East Hill ramblers, the Panther Lake ranches, the Kent Station townhouses — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Scenic Hill tri-levels and 1970s split-level landings run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and West Hill hillside steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, marine-grade coating, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does the marine-grade rail coating cost extra in Washington?

No. The marine-grade corrosion coating is standard on every Washington install — indoor and outdoor. National chains price it as a $400 add-on. We include it at baseline because the Pacific Northwest moisture cycle corrodes untreated rails faster than any other climate zone we work in. It's in the written quote. No line-item surprise.

Are prices higher in King County than other parts of Washington?

Equipment prices are the same statewide — we don't inflate quotes for King County addresses. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: masonry-anchored treads on West Hill stone staircases, humidity-warped treads in older East Hill ramblers that need bracket shimming, and curved fabrication for tri-level landings. We tell you the line items upfront. No 'King County premium.'

Is it cheaper to pay upfront or finance a stairlift in Kent?

Paying upfront avoids interest entirely, and some families combine a partial HISA grant or COPES waiver with savings to eliminate monthly payments. If you finance, our 0% APR plans for qualified buyers mean no extra cost over 12 months — you pay the quoted price spread across installments. For longer terms, fixed-rate plans start at $79/month. Either way, the full cost qualifies as a medical expense deduction on your federal and Washington state returns if a physician recommends the lift in writing. We walk through the numbers at the assessment.

A word from Luis

Most Kent families call me after the same realization — the split-level rambler that worked fine at 55 doesn't work at 78. A stumble on the carpeted stairs in an East Hill split-level, a daughter in Bellevue who drove down to find her mother sleeping on the couch because the bedroom stairs were too much after a knee replacement, a retired Boeing machinist on West Hill whose VA provider at the Puget Sound system said 'you qualify for HISA — call these people.'

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
