Stairlift Service Across Lake County

Lake County, IN

From the 1920s Brantwood bungalows — one of Highland's first subdivisions, original oak treads and brick-cedar exteriors — to the 1950s Ellendale and Golfmoor ranches with finished basements, to the 1960s Wicker Park Manor split-levels east of the Wicker Memorial Park golf course, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in Highland. We know which Homestead and Pettit Park streets have steep narrow basement stairs that need a compact straight rail, which Boulevard Estates raised front entries ice over from lake-effect every January, and which Wicker Highlands and Southridge split-levels have the half-landing turn that needs a curved rail. We also serve Munster, Griffith, Hammond, and Dyer at the same Lake County rate.

Straight

Brantwood 1924 brick bungalow — straight rail on original oak hardwood treads

Brantwood, IN

The Reillys' 1924 brick bungalow in Brantwood has original hardwood oak treads from when the house was built. Mrs. Reilly did not want the rail drilled into the wall or the 90-year-old handrail touched. Luis bolted the straight rail into the tread centers only with a surface guide, parked the beige-upholstered seat at the bottom landing. Three hours start to finish; bungalow's original character intact.

Curved

Wicker Park Manor 1965 split-level — curved rail at 90° upper landing, seat at top

Wicker Park Manor, IN

The Tovar family's 1965 Wicker Park Manor split-level has five steps to a half-landing, a 90-degree turn, then eight more to the bedrooms. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the top floor. Luis laser-scanned and ordered a single factory-bent curved rail; fabrication took 10 days. Install day ran four hours. Curved rails are custom per stair and start at $9,000.

Ellendale 1953 postwar ranch — stone tile treads, sideboard at base, compact rail

Ellendale, IN

Mrs. Drewno's 1953 Ellendale ranch has a narrow staircase with stone tile treads original to the postwar Calumet Region build, flanked by a walnut sideboard her husband built before he passed. Luis tread-mounted the straight rail in the tight space, keeping the sideboard in place. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom landing. Finished in three hours.

Pettit Park raised front entry — outdoor IP55 unit on stone paving, lake-effect rated

Pettit Park, IN

Mr. Vasquez's 1951 Pettit Park bungalow has seven stone-paved entry steps that ice over every December from Lake Michigan lake-effect snow. Luis installed the IP55-rated outdoor unit — cream-upholstered seat at the lower porch level — anchored with stainless hardware into the rough stone paving. Sealed against road-salt spray and lake-effect moisture. Qualified for HISA grant through Adam Benjamin Jr. VA Clinic, Crown Point. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000.

The brown-upholstered seat sits near the upper landing and travels up to the second-floor hallway. Luis bolted the rail through the carpet and pad into the subfloor with lag screws. The full walkthrough was conducted in Spanish. Install took four hours.

Southridge split-level — indoor wheelchair platform, 600 lb, yellow safety edges

Southridge, IN

Mr. Lemos uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. Luis installed the indoor inclined platform lift: flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail, interlocked upper and lower gates — ADA-compliant, rated to 600 lb. He rolls onto the platform at the lower level and rides to the upper hallway independently. Installed in one day.

Common Questions

Everything Highland Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Highland, IN right now?

Straight rails in standard Highland homes — Brantwood bungalows, Ellendale ranches, Golfmoor Cape Cods — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. That includes a cold-rated battery standard on every Lake County install. Curved rails for Wicker Park Manor and Southridge split-levels run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor weather-sealed units for raised front entries start at $4,000. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery, and the first service visit.

Are Highland prices different from Munster, Griffith, or Schererville?

Equipment prices are identical across Lake County — we do not inflate quotes by zip code, and we do not charge a state-line premium for families calling from Chicago on behalf of a parent in Highland. What varies is labor when we hit unusual conditions: foundation-settled treads in older Brantwood bungalows, dedicated-circuit electrical work in pre-1950 homes with 60-amp panels, or weatherproofing on a raised front entry that takes the full lake-effect. Every line item appears on the written quote before you sign.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service in Highland?

No. Every Highland assessment can be conducted in Spanish — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of Lake County families through the paperwork in their preferred language. Printed quotes, consent forms, and operating manuals are available in Spanish at no extra charge.

Any hidden fees for older Brantwood or Wicker Highlands homes?

No hidden fees. Stairlifts bolt into the stair treads and never contact original woodwork. Highland has no historic preservation overlay zone, so there is no commission review for an interior stairlift install even on the oldest Brantwood blocks. The only extra that can apply is dedicated-circuit electrical work on pre-1950 homes with 60-amp panels — and that line item is always on the quote before you sign.

A word from Luis

Most calls I take in Highland come from grown children in Chicago or Munster worried about a parent in a 1920s Brantwood bungalow with steep basement stairs, or a 1965 Wicker Park Manor split-level whose half-landing turn has finally become impossible. The lake-effect winters off Lake Michigan hammer the outdoor entries on the older blocks east of Indianapolis Boulevard, and the basement stair geometry in Brantwood and Ellendale is some of the tightest I work in Lake County.

I drive to your home within 24 hours, measure with a laser, and leave a written quote honored for 30 days. For Lake County veterans, I pre-fill VA Form 10-0103 and coordinate with the Adam Benjamin Jr. VA Outpatient Clinic at 9301 Madison St in Crown Point — about 12 miles from here — to start the HISA grant. For PathWays for Aging Waiver cases, I prepare the modification justification packet for your Options Counselor. En español si lo prefiere.
