Stairlift Service Across Lake County

Lake County, IN

From the 1920s Tudor Revival and Colonial homes of Woodmar and Forest-Ivanhoe — where preserving original millwork matters — to the 1940s bungalows of Hessville where steep basement stairs need a straight rail in three hours, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in Hammond. We know which Woodmar addresses sit inside the Forest-Ivanhoe Residential Historic District, which North Hammond and Robertsdale raised entries ice over every winter and need outdoor weather-sealed lifts, and which South Hammond split-levels have the half-landing turn that requires a curved rail. We also cover East Chicago, Whiting, Munster, Highland, Griffith, and Gary at the same Lake County rate — no travel surcharges.

1928 Woodmar Colonial Revival — rail color-matched to original walnut hardwood

Woodmar, IN Installed March 2026

A 1928 Colonial Revival in Woodmar with original walnut hardwood treads and a banister in place since the neighborhood was built. Mrs. Pearson made it clear the lift could not look like hospital equipment in her front hall. We color-matched the rail finish to the existing walnut, drilled into the tread centers only using a guide to protect the hardwood surface, and parked the chair flush against the wall at the bottom landing. She has lived in the house since 1973 and still hosts bridge club every Thursday.

1966 South Hammond split-level — single curved rail over the 90-degree landing

South Hammond, IN Installed February 2026

A 1966 split-level ranch in South Hammond with five steps from the entry to the living area, a 90-degree landing, then eight more to the bedrooms. Mrs. Diaz's mother moved in from East Chicago after a stroke and needed the full run without a mid-landing transfer. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a single curved rail with a swivel-exit seat at the upper landing. The seat parks at the top floor and she steps off directly onto the bedroom hallway. One ride from the front door to the bedrooms, zero transfers.

1950s Hessville cottage — straight rail on stone-tiled treads next to grandmother's sideboard

Hessville, IN Installed January 2026

A compact 1950s cottage in Hessville with a narrow staircase flanked by a wooden sideboard and a potted fern Mrs. Kowalski has kept alive since her husband brought it home from the church bazaar in 1987. The stone-tile treads are original to the house — a common Calumet Region detail in post-war construction. We tread-mounted the straight rail in the tight space, keeping the chair close to the wall so the sideboard stays in place. The whole run was done in three hours. Mrs. Kowalski said the compact footprint was the reason she picked us over the other bid.

Robertsdale raised porch — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone paving

Robertsdale, IN Installed December 2025

A 1952 bungalow in Robertsdale with seven exterior stone-paved steps leading up to a raised front porch that ices over every year by Thanksgiving. Mr. Nowak is a Vietnam-era veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago. The cream-colored weather-sealed seat sits at the porch entry, anchored into the stone paving with stainless hardware rated for road-salt spray and lake-effect moisture. He rides it from the driveway to the front door twice a day, through the worst of the Lake Michigan winter, without a single service call.

North Hammond two-story — straight rail on carpeted stairs with color-matched upholstery

North Hammond, IN Installed November 2025

A 1955 two-story in North Hammond with wall-to-wall carpeted stairs running from the tiled entry foyer to the second-floor landing. Sr. Medina, a retired steelworker, needed a ride that felt sturdy at his size. We bolted the rail through the carpet and pad directly into the subfloor, anchored every bracket with lag screws, and fitted the brown-upholstered seat that blends with the carpet tones on the treads. The chair parks at the landing, and the entire walkthrough — every button, every safety feature — was conducted in Spanish with Sr. Medina, his wife, and their son who drove in from Griffith.

Platform Lift

Forest-Ivanhoe split-level — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Forest-Ivanhoe, IN Installed October 2025

A 1960s split-level addition behind a 1931 Tudor Revival in the Forest-Ivanhoe Historic District. Mr. Jankowski uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, bright yellow high-visibility safety edges, interlocked upper and lower gates, and a white handrail. The terracotta-painted stairway walls and window give the space good light. He rolls onto the platform at the lower level and rides to the upper hallway independently — no transfer, no assistance, no compromise.

Common Questions

Everything Hammond Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Hammond right now?

Straight rails in standard Hammond homes — the Hessville bungalows, the Woodmar Cape Cods, the South Hammond ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. That includes the cold-weather LiFePO4 battery and 72-hour backup capacity that is standard on every Lake County install. Curved rails for split-level homes with landing turns run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor weather-sealed models for the raised front entries and concrete stoops that ice over every winter run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-weather battery, and the first service visit.

Are Hammond prices different from Munster, Highland, or the south suburbs?

Equipment prices are identical across the Calumet Region — we don't inflate quotes based on zip code, and we don't charge a state-line premium for families in Chicago calling on behalf of a parent in Hammond. What varies slightly is labor when we run into unusual conditions: historic-millwork preservation in Woodmar or Forest-Ivanhoe, foundation-settled treads in older Hessville and North Hammond bungalows, or dedicated-circuit electrical work in pre-1950 homes with 60-amp panels. Every line item goes on the written quote before you sign anything.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Hammond assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of families in North Hammond, Robertsdale, and the East Chicago border neighborhoods through the paperwork in their preferred language. Printed quotes, consent forms, and operating manuals are available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. With roughly 40% of Hammond's population being Hispanic or Latino, it's the way the service should have always been offered.

Any hidden fees for an install in a Woodmar or Forest-Ivanhoe historic home?

No hidden fees. Interior stairlift installs are outside the Hammond Historic Preservation Commission's jurisdiction — even in the Forest-Ivanhoe Residential Historic District. The only time HPC review applies is if we're adding an exterior porch or stoop lift on a contributing structure. When that's the case, we prepare the application at no charge. The quote is the quote.

A word from Luis

Most Hammond families call me after a winter morning when the front stoop iced over and someone ended up in the ER — a fall on the concrete steps of a 1940s Hessville bungalow, a father who hasn't been downstairs to his workshop since the October cold set in, a daughter on the South Side of Chicago worried about her mother alone in a Woodmar Cape Cod she's lived in since 1968.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
