Common Questions

Everything Hernando Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

How much does a stairlift cost in Hernando, MS?

Straight rails start at $2,800 installed. Most Gray's Creek and Fairway Pointe straight runs come in at $3,000 to $3,800. Curved rails for the older North Side Greek Revivals — where the run turns at an upper landing — typically run $9,500 to $13,000.

Are stairlifts deductible on Mississippi state taxes?

Mississippi follows federal medical-expense deduction rules under IRS Publication 502. With a physician's letter of medical necessity, the portion of the cost above any home value increase is deductible on your federal return. Mississippi has no separate state-level credit for stairlifts.

What is the cheapest stairlift option in Hernando?

A reconditioned straight rail with a fresh battery, full installation, and our standard 5-year warranty starts at $2,800. For most Hernando staircases — typical 13-tread runs in Gray's Creek or Fairway Pointe — this is the right choice: no compromise on safety, just the previous-generation seat.

Why do curved rails cost more in Hernando's historic district?

1850s and 1900s homes in the North Side Historic District often have L-shaped or U-shaped staircases that turn at upper landings. A curved rail is custom-built to your home's exact geometry — laser-scanned, sent to the factory, bent to spec. The labor is similar; the rail itself is the cost driver.

A word from Luis

Hernando is the oldest housing stock in DeSoto County by a wide margin. The North Side Historic District has houses from 1850 with original heart-pine treads — those are 11 inches deep with a 7.5-inch riser, and a standard rail mounts cleanly without disturbing the floor. I keep heart-pine plug stock in the truck for closing fastener holes when a homeowner sells.

South of the courthouse square in the Magnolia District the bungalows are tighter, often 32 inches between newel posts. We use the slim-rail option there — six and a half inches off the wall, seat folds to twelve, still nineteen inches of clearance for anyone walking past. Out at Gray's Creek and Fairway Pointe the staircases are wide carpeted runs — installed by noon, battery backup tested before Luis leaves the driveway. Across town: same brand, same warranty, but very different installs.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Hernando is the rare DeSoto County city with both 175-year-old housing and brand-new gated subdivisions, often within five miles of each other. The right stairlift for an 1855 Greek Revival on Center Street is not the right stairlift for a 2018 Gray's Creek build, and we install both every month.

Schedule a free in-home survey — we measure, photograph, and quote in one visit. Straight-rail installs ship and are installed within two weeks. We are 21 miles from the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center at 116 N. Pauline Street, Memphis, and we handle the HISA grant paperwork for veteran clients.
