The 5.0 sq mi CDP sits at about 7 ft elevation in northeastern Miami-Dade County, 11 miles north of downtown Miami; its northern portion is dominated by the Golden Glades Interchange linking I-95, Florida's Turnpike, the Palmetto Expressway and US 441 (the CDP was renamed Biscayne Gardens in 2023).

Golden Glades runs 52% homeownership, and most of what I install is in single-story or modest two-story houses with one straight flight up to the bedrooms, original 1970s or 80s stairs nobody's ever remodeled. A stairlift fits that layout without custom carpentry, letting you stay put instead of moving. Call and I'll walk you through financing, including the SMMC Medicaid option, before we talk price.

Stairlift Service Across Miami-Dade County
My Golden Glades work spans four distinct pockets: the original Biscayne Gardens grid south of NW 167th Street with its 1950s ranch homes and terrazzo floors; Sunny Acres along NE 18th Avenue with mid-century split-levels and exterior porch entries; Oak Grove on the west side toward Opa-locka with 1960s CBS homes and tighter 11-tread runs; and Fulford Highlands around West Dixie Highway, where 1960s Miami Modern homes have wider runs and original wooden balustrades. Salt air from Biscayne Bay reaches every block here, so 316 stainless hardware and marine-grade outdoor units are standard, never optional. Uleta and Windward residents along the southeast edge call us regularly too.

Our 1958 ranch off NW 167th Street has the original terrazzo. I was terrified the rail would chip something. Luis showed me the wood substructure under the nose, drilled six small pilots per tread, and used stainless plugs. The terrazzo looks exactly the same as before. The straight rail was up in three and a half hours.
We are in Sunny Acres in a 1962 split-level with a half-flight up to the bedrooms. Luis measured the curve, ordered the rail, and 12 days later it was installed. He used 316 stainless mounts everywhere because we are five miles from the bay. Two years in, no rust, no slowdown, no service calls.
I am a service-connected veteran and Luis walked me through the HISA grant from the Bruce Carter VA on NW 16th Street. He gave me the contractor estimate, came to install, and signed the post-install paperwork the same day. The grant covered $6,800 and I paid $400 for an upgraded seat. That was it.
We have a raised entry in Fulford Highlands and Luis put in an outdoor unit with a marine-grade cover. He explained that 304 stainless pits in three years near the bay and 316 lasts decades. After the last salt-air storm I checked every bolt and they all looked brand new.
Hurricane Helene knocked our power out for two and a half days. The stairlift Luis installed kept working the entire time. I did not even know it had a battery backup until I needed it. My father uses it eight times a day and never once did it stop. He told me it would hold through a four-day outage and he was right.
Luis was honest. Two other companies tried to sell me a curved rail for my straight 12-tread run on West Dixie Highway. He measured, said straight was correct, and saved me almost $7,000. The install was four hours and there has not been one issue in 16 months. He did not charge a trip fee or cancel when it rained.

Everything Golden Glades Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
How much does a stairlift cost for a home in Golden Glades?
Most Golden Glades houses I've worked on have one straight flight of stairs, no landing, no turn, because the housing stock here is mostly older, modest construction rather than newer multi-level builds. Straight rail is the less expensive setup and it's what I quote most often in this CDP. Curved rail only enters the picture on the occasional larger or renovated home, and that's a custom-bent rail job that costs more and takes longer to fabricate. I still won't put a firm number on it without seeing the actual staircase.
Is a stairlift realistic on a tight budget in Golden Glades?
Golden Glades has a 21.89% poverty rate, so cost comes up in nearly every conversation I have here. What helps is that homeownership still sits at 52%, and a lot of families own the house outright or are close to it, which changes the calculus versus paying into a rental. I walk people through Florida's Medicaid long-term care program and the FAAST loan option before they rule anything out on price alone; plenty of homeowners assume they don't qualify and never actually check.
Does Medicare or Medicaid cover the cost in Golden Glades?
Standard Medicare treats a stairlift as a home modification, not durable medical equipment, so it doesn't pay for it anywhere in Florida, Golden Glades included. Florida's Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care program (SMMC LTC) is the one that sometimes does, funding a stairlift as a "Home Accessibility Adaptation" under an approved plan of care. It's case-by-case, not automatic, and you'd confirm it through the SMMC Choice Counseling Helpline at 1-877-711-3662.
How long does a stairlift installation take in Golden Glades?
A straight-rail install on one flight, which describes most of the staircases I see in this CDP, usually wraps up in a few hours, same day. Curved rail takes longer because it's built to match the exact stairs after they're measured, not pulled off a shelf. Given how much of Golden Glades' housing is older, modest single-story or two-story construction, I'm rarely dealing with an unusual or custom stair layout.
Will installing a stairlift damage my stairs?
No. The rail bolts into the treads, not the wall, so there's no drywall patching afterward. Golden Glades sits at only about 7 feet of elevation, flat enough that grading or drainage at the entryway is never a factor in how I plan the job. On older homes I do check tread condition first, since humidity and age can soften wood over the decades, and I want a solid base before anything gets mounted.
Does living near the Golden Glades Interchange affect scheduling or access?
Not the install itself, but it affects timing. I-95, the Turnpike, the Palmetto, and US 441 all converge in the CDP's north end, and traffic backs up hard there during rush hour, so I try to schedule around it when a home is close to the interchange. Once I'm on-site, the work is the same as anywhere else in Miami-Dade: measure, mount, test the rail.
What Medicaid and county-level help is available in Golden Glades for a stairlift?
Florida's SMMC LTC program is the first call. It can fund a stairlift as a Home Accessibility Adaptation with no fixed dollar cap, decided per individual care plan, through the Choice Counseling Helpline at 1-877-711-3662. Alliance for Aging, Inc., the Area Agency on Aging for PSA 11 covering Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, coordinates home-modification referrals under its CCE and OAA funding streams. Their published materials don't name stairlifts specifically, so it's worth calling their main line at 305-670-6500 (or the Elder Helpline at 305-670-4357) and asking directly what's on the table.
What does the Home Care for the Elderly Program offer?
HCE is a state-funded, non-Medicaid program through Florida's Department of Elder Affairs that pays a basic $160 per month caregiver subsidy, with special subsidies, uncapped in the program description, that can go toward ramps and home accessibility modifications. Stairlifts aren't named specifically in that list, so you'd confirm with your local ADRC intake whether a lift qualifies before counting on it. The Elder Helpline, 1-800-963-5337, is the number to start with.
What can a veteran in Golden Glades use to pay for a stairlift?
The VA's HISA grant explicitly excludes stairlifts from what it covers. It's for structural alterations, capped at $6,800 for a service-connected condition or $2,000 for non-service-connected. A veteran's stairlift instead gets pursued as durable medical equipment through VA Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service, coordinated locally through the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center's PSAS office, and that route doesn't carry the same fixed dollar limit: it's tied to what's medically prescribed. Outside VA benefits, the FAAST New Horizon Loan Program (roughly $3,000 to $30,000, low-interest) and Florida's homestead plus senior additional homestead exemption, up to $50,000 each in taxable value reduction, are worth asking about too, especially with Golden Glades' median home value near $398,438.

People here still say Golden Glades over Biscayne Gardens, and most of my calls come from the residential streets away from the interchange noise, closer to the older Miami-Dade housing stock. At a $398,438 median home value, the stairs I'm measuring are usually original to the house. Nobody's remodeled a 1970s or 80s staircase into something custom. With a 21.89% poverty rate sitting right alongside a solid 52% homeownership number, I get asked about Medicaid and financing here more than I do in some wealthier pockets of the county, and I'd rather spend ten minutes walking someone through the SMMC LTC process than have them assume it's out of reach and never call.
Ready to get started? It's simple.
Golden Glades stairlifts have to handle three things most Miami neighborhoods do not: hurricane evacuation timing, salt-air corrosion seven miles from Biscayne Bay, and the tight 11-tread terrazzo runs of 1950s ranch homes off NW 167th Street. I plan for all three on every quote. 316 stainless mounts are not an add-on here, they are the baseline.
Call or request a callback and I will be at your door within 48 hours with a tape measure, a sample 316 stainless mount, and a written line-item quote. No deposit. You do not pay until the lift is installed and you have ridden it twice.
