Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Dakota County

Dakota County, MN

We install across every part of Farmington, from the original grid south of County Road 50 — the Farmington Historic Core, the Exchange Bank corridor, and the streets around Wilson Park — to the newer subdivisions north of 50: Charleswood, Mystic Meadows, Middle Creek, and the Empire River Preserve and Empire Township builds pushing east toward Nelsen Hills Farm. The Historic Core's pre-1920 farmhouses have narrow 32–34 inch staircases on hand-cut oak; we spec slim rails and shim to each tread. The 1990s–2010s builds in Charleswood and Mystic Meadows run 36–38 inches wide on carpeted maple with tight upper landings — standard straight or 90-degree curved rails fit cleanly. We also serve rural Empire Township acreages with walk-out basements, where freeze-thaw cycles dictate IP55-rated exterior housings.

Common Questions

Everything Farmington Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Farmington, MN?

Straight rails start at $2,800 installed. Curved rails — common in the two-story builds in Middle Creek and Empire Township — start at $9,000 because the rail is custom-bent to your exact staircase. Outdoor units for walk-out porches start at $4,000. Heavy-duty (600 lb capacity) starts at $5,050. Every Farmington quote includes same-week survey, rail, seat, battery backup, and full installation.

Does Farmington's downtown pre-1920 housing add cost?

Sometimes. The hand-cut oak treads near the Exchange Bank Building and Church of the Advent vary a quarter-inch tread to tread, so we hand-shim each bracket — adds about 30 minutes of labor, not a line item. Staircases under 33 inches wide may need a slim-profile rail; that's a $200–$400 upcharge over the standard straight.

Is financing available for Farmington homeowners?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month with approved credit. Most Farmington households qualify for 24–60 month terms. We run the application on-site during the quote visit — no application fee, no prepayment penalty.

Can I write off the stairlift on my Minnesota taxes?

If a licensed physician documents medical necessity, the full cost (unit + installation) qualifies as a federal medical expense deduction under IRS Publication 502. Minnesota honors the federal deduction. Keep the physician's letter, the paid invoice, and the manufacturer's model documentation — that package has cleared every audit we've seen.

A word from Luis

I measure a lot of Farmington stairs with a long level balanced against 140-year-old oak treads. The homes south of County Road 50 — the ones near the Exchange Bank Building and the old Church of the Advent — have risers that vary a quarter-inch tread to tread, and the nosings were cut by hand. Standard extruded rails don't sit right on that geometry. I hand-shim to each tread so the seat tracks level even when the staircase doesn't.

North of 50, in Charleswood and Mystic Meadows and the Empire Township builds from the early 2000s, the problem flips. Those are carpeted maple stairs with tight 36-inch widths and a bullnose that eats a half-inch of clearance. I spec a slim-profile rail there and fold the footrest manually before I leave the quote — proves the second person can still get upstairs when the lift is parked at the landing.

And every Farmington install gets a battery backup sized for our winters. When a February ice storm takes the grid down for six hours, the lift still runs. For the rural Empire Township acreages, I use freeze-rated exterior housings on walk-out porch units — Dakota County winters crack standard housings at the seals by March. That's not optional.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Farmington stairs span 140 years of Dakota County history — from the hand-cut oak of the 1880s farmhouses to the carpeted maple of the Charleswood and Mystic Meadows builds. Every install I quote starts with a tape measure on the tread, not a guess from the sidewalk.

Same-week survey across Farmington and the south Twin Cities metro. Battery backup on every unit because February grid outages aren't hypothetical here.
