Stairlift Service Across Hennepin County

Hennepin County, MN

The housing stock splits between East Bloomington — flat grid streets lined with 1950s ramblers and post-WWII tract homes — and West Bloomington, where hilly terrain and winding roads climb toward the Minnesota River bluffs. Southbrook and Hillcrest are classic 1960s split-level territory: six steps up from the entry, a 90-degree landing, then nine more to the bedrooms. Reynolds Park has bigger lots, steeper driveways, and raised front entries where outdoor lifts earn their keep. Williamsburg Village is newer townhome stock with wider stairs and fast installs. No travel fees anywhere in the south metro.

1955 East Bloomington rambler — straight rail on original oak treads

East Bloomington, MN Installed March 2026

A 1955 rambler on a flat East Bloomington grid street with 13 original oak treads to the upper bedrooms. Mrs. Gustafson had been sleeping on the main floor sofa for two weeks after a knee replacement at Fairview Southdale Hospital. Her daughter called from Milwaukee on a Monday. We bolted the straight rail to the right side of the dark hardwood treads — never into the wall, never touching the oak banister — and parked the beige seat at the bottom landing so the narrow hallway stays clear. Cold-pack battery rated to -30°F installed standard.

1964 Hillcrest split-level — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

Hillcrest, MN Installed February 2026

A 1964 split-level in the Hillcrest neighborhood with a staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing around a half-wall balustrade. Mr. Pedersen retired from Honeywell's old Bloomington campus in 1998 and has lived in this house since 1971. We laser-scanned the full staircase, fabricated a single curved rail that bends around the half-wall and carries him from the entry to the upper hallway without stopping, and installed a swivel-exit seat so he steps off onto hallway carpet. The brown-upholstered chair parks at the upper floor landing with framed art on the wall behind it. One ride, zero transfers.

1961 Southbrook cottage — slim-profile rail on narrow treads beside the sideboard

Southbrook, MN Installed January 2026

A 1961 stone-and-brick cottage in the Southbrook neighborhood with a staircase only 32 inches wide between the banister and the wall. A wooden sideboard with a potted plant sits at the base of the stairs, and the stone-accented treads give the space a cozy, traditional feel. We specified the slim-profile model — the folded seat and rail together take up just 11 inches, leaving 21 inches of clear passage. The brown-upholstered seat tucks tight against the wall in this compact space. Luis coordinated with a Hennepin County interpreter for the Hmong-speaking grandmother's initial walkthrough.

Reynolds Park raised entry — outdoor lift on stone paving steps

Reynolds Park, MN Installed December 2025

A 1978 West Bloomington home in Reynolds Park with a raised front entry and seven stone paving steps from the driveway to the front door. Mr. Swenson is a Vietnam-era veteran enrolled at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat rides a straight outdoor rail anchored into the rough natural stone paving with masonry fasteners rated for Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycle. The VA HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost. Every outdoor component is cold-rated to -30°F, the motor housing is sealed against Minnesota ice and meltwater, and we added drainage channels so snowmelt doesn't pool on the rail.

Williamsburg Village townhome — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Williamsburg Village, MN Installed November 2025

A 1990s townhome in Williamsburg Village with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mrs. Larson's son called on a Tuesday, we measured that afternoon, and the install crew was at the house Thursday morning. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones, and the chair parks at the landing where wall-mounted light switches mark the transition to the tiled entry floor below. Cold-pack battery rated to -30°F installed standard.

Platform Lift

East Bloomington — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

East Bloomington, MN Installed October 2025

A two-story home on the East Bloomington grid where Mr. Thao, a disabled veteran who served with the Minnesota National Guard, uses a power wheelchair full-time. A seated stairlift was never an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges, a white handrail on the wall side, and auto-stop sensors on every edge. The stairway has warm orange-terracotta walls and a window at the landing. The Minneapolis VA HISA grant covered the full $6,800 service-connected maximum, and the Minnesota Elderly Waiver covered the remaining balance through Hennepin County. Mr. Thao rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without ever leaving his wheelchair.

Common Questions

Everything Bloomington Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Bloomington right now?

Straight rails in standard Bloomington homes — the East Bloomington ramblers, the Williamsburg Village townhomes, the West Bloomington two-stories — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most 1960s Hillcrest and Southbrook split-levels with a landing turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts for raised entries and stone porch steps run $4,500 to $8,000 and include drainage channels and cold-pack batteries standard. Every written quote includes installation, rail, seat, cold-pack battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Bloomington than in Minneapolis proper?

Equipment prices are the same across the south metro — we don't inflate quotes based on neighborhood or zip code. What varies slightly is cold-weather spec: every Bloomington install ships with the -30°F cold-pack battery as standard, which adds a modest hardware cost but keeps the lift running through polar vortex outages. We show you the line items upfront.

Do Bloomington's 55+ communities or townhome HOAs add to the cost?

Our quote includes the HOA paperwork we handle for you. We've worked with Williamsburg Village, Friendship Village, and several Bloomington 55+ associations — the reasonable-accommodation letters are already templated. Under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 515B and the federal Fair Housing Act, boards are required to approve accessibility modifications for disabled residents. What can rarely add cost is a board-required structural engineer letter. If that applies, we tell you before we start.

Do you charge extra for non-English service?

No. Every Bloomington assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual. For Hmong, Somali, and other language support common in Bloomington's immigrant communities, we coordinate interpreters through Hennepin County Senior Services at no additional charge.

A word from Luis

Most Bloomington families call me after a close call on the stairs — a slip on the carpeted run in a 1960s Hillcrest rambler, a mother who hasn't been upstairs since her hip replacement at Fairview Southdale, a son in Denver worried about his parents in a West Bloomington split-level they've lived in for 45 years and aren't leaving.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
