Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Lake County

Lake County, IN

We install throughout East Chicago: Indiana Harbor bungalows with narrow 30-inch treads that need a slim-profile straight rail; Marktown English-village worker cottages where the staircase geometry requires a custom curved rail; Calumet two-flats where the upper unit is reached only by stairs; Roxana and Sunnyside 1940s bungalows with refinished oak treads; East Chicago 1st District and 5th District post-war ranches. For detached garages and stone front steps in the 4th District near the canal, we fit IP55 outdoor rails that handle lake-effect snow and the industrial humidity blowing in off Inland Steel's footprint.

Straight

Indiana Harbor — straight rail on original oak treads

Indiana Harbor, IN Installed March 2026

1919 steel-worker bungalow on Magoun Avenue with original quarter-sawn oak treads under a wool runner. We lifted the runner, bolted the straight slim-profile rail into the oak at six anchor points, reset the carpet. Beige seat parks at the bottom landing next to the front vestibule.

Marktown — curved rail around historic cottage landing

Marktown, IN Installed February 2026

1917 English-village worker cottage on Prospect Street with a 75-degree turn at the upper landing wrapping a half-wall. Howard Van Doren Shaw's original design left almost no space for modern modifications — we measured twice, fabricated the custom rail over two weeks, installed it in an afternoon. Brown seat parks at the top floor.

Calumet, IN Installed January 2026

Upper unit of a 1923 Calumet two-flat with ceramic-tile treads and a wooden sideboard near the base. We fitted a tight-profile straight rail against the wall so the sideboard stayed put and the narrow hallway remained walkable. Brown seat parked at the bottom landing.

Sunnyside — carpeted stairs with matching brown upholstery

Sunnyside, IN Installed November 2025

1952 Sunnyside bungalow with full carpet on the main staircase. We matched the seat upholstery to the carpet tones so the lift blends rather than stands out. Battery-backed for NIPSCO summer storm outages. Tile floor at the base landing.

Platform Lift

5th District — indoor wheelchair platform on split-level

5th District, IN Installed October 2025

Split-level home with six steps from the foyer down to the family room — too short for an elevator, too risky for a seated lift for a wheelchair user. Indoor inclined platform lift with flat black deck, yellow safety edges and white handrail, sized for a standard manual chair.

Common Questions

Everything East Chicago Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in East Chicago, IN?

Straight rails start at $2,800 installed; most East Chicago bungalows in Indiana Harbor and Sunnyside come in between $3,100 and $3,700 because treads are often just 30-31 inches and need a slim-profile rail. Curved rails for Marktown cottages and Calumet two-flats start at $9,000. Outdoor IP55 units for stone-porch installs run $4,000-$4,800. Heavy-duty (600 lb) from $5,050.

Are there hidden fees on an East Chicago install?

Not normally — the quote covers measurement, rail, seat, remote, battery backup and labor. Two common add-ons: if your 1910s Indiana Harbor bungalow has tread material thinner than 3/4 inch we add a reinforcement plate for $180-$240, and if NIPSCO needs a dedicated 120V outlet within 6 feet of the bottom landing, that's a licensed electrician at roughly $220.

Does Medicare pay for a stairlift in East Chicago?

No — traditional Medicare Parts A and B classify stairlifts as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans sold in Lake County, IN (Anthem, UnitedHealthcare) now include a modest home-safety benefit of $500-$1,500 per year that can offset part of the cost. We'll check your specific plan during the free assessment.

Can I finance a stairlift through All American Stairlifts?

Yes. Financing starts at $79/month with 0% APR for 12 months for qualified applicants. On a typical $3,300 East Chicago straight-rail install that works out to about $79/month for 36 months, no down payment. We run the soft-pull credit check during the in-home measure so you know your payment before we cut any rail.

A word from Luis

East Chicago stairs are not Chicago stairs. The bungalows in Indiana Harbor were built between 1905 and 1925 for Inland Steel and Mark Manufacturing workers — narrow treads, tall risers, no room for a wide seat base. The two-flats in Calumet run even tighter. When I measure, I bring a metric tape for the tread and a straight ruler for the rise because most of these staircases miss code by a quarter inch somewhere.

Two climate notes: Lake Michigan dumps lake-effect snow from November through March, and the industrial humidity off the canal eats zinc fasteners within two winters. I spec marine-grade stainless for every outdoor rail and battery backup on every indoor unit — NIPSCO power flickers during summer lake storms faster than anywhere else I work.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

East Chicago was built by steel workers who planned to stay in the same house through retirement. The Indiana Harbor bungalows, Marktown cottages and Calumet two-flats weren't designed with a 76-year-old in mind — but almost every one of them can take a stairlift in a single day without rebuilding the staircase.

If you want a real quote for your East Chicago home — measured in person, priced to the inch, with PathWays for Aging and VA HISA paperwork handled for you — call us. I answer the phone myself most mornings.
