A short interior or entry-step rail, which is what we install most often at places like Country West, costs less than a full curved system for a two-story home. Older 1980s units sometimes need a different anchoring approach for the subfloor than a newer build, and we'll flag that during the in-home look before quoting a number.
Not if the rise is at the entry rather than inside. A lot of Chino Valley's ranch-style homes are single level, but the porch step or a raised entry landing still stops someone with a bad hip or a walker cold, especially with the winter ice that comes with sitting at 4,734 feet. We size a short straight rail for that kind of rise the same way we would for a full staircase, just at a lower cost.
