A straight run up a single flight costs less than a curved rail built around a landing, and Sedona's older split-level layouts from the 1980s and 90s lean toward the curved side more often than a flat-lot subdivision would. We price it after walking the stairs, not off a phone call — ask about financing through the AzLAT loan program (up to $20,000, low-interest) if the number is more than you want to pay up front.

A straight-rail job on a single flight is usually done in a day. Sedona's split-level and multi-story homes from the 80s and 90s more often need a curved rail, and those take longer to fabricate to the exact staircase, so plan on a longer lead time between measurement and install than a one-story ranch elsewhere in the state would need.
We do it regularly. Sedona's vacation and second-home market means a lot of owners aren't around for a standard site visit, so we schedule the measurement and the install around whenever the owner is actually in town, and we can often turn both trips into one visit if the dates line up.
Sometimes. Housing here was mostly built out by 2007, and a few of the older stairways are narrower than what a modern rail wants, or the landing doesn't leave enough clearance at the top. We flag that at the walkthrough — it's a small carpentry fix, not a redesign, in almost every case we've run into.

There's no fixed dollar cap in the policy — your ALTCS managed care team approves the amount case-by-case as part of your person-centered service plan, so the stairlift has to be documented as medically necessary. The HISA grant won't — VA policy explicitly excludes stair glides from what that $6,800 (service-connected) or $2,000 (other) grant can cover. The stairlift itself typically comes through the VA Prosthetics & Sensory Aids program instead, which has no set dollar cap when a lift is medically prescribed. Your local VA facility handles that application, not the HISA office.
The state's AzLAT loan program offers up to $20,000 at low interest specifically for stairlifts and other home modifications. It's also worth a call to NACOG's Area Agency on Aging (928-774-1895) — their home repair and weatherization programs don't list stairlifts by name, so you have to ask directly whether a given funding cycle covers one. And Arizona's Senior Freeze property-tax valuation lock can free up ongoing cash even though it doesn't pay for the lift directly.
