Stairlift Service Across Cumberland County

Cumberland County, PA

From the Federal-era rowhomes and Victorian twins lining Hanover Street and High Street in the Carlisle Historic District — where the original 18th-century town grid meets 19th-century commercial facades — to the post-war Cape Cods and ranches along the Ritner Highway corridor south of town, our crew has measured staircases in every part of Carlisle. The blocks near Dickinson College along West Louther Street and College Street feature faculty homes and converted fraternity houses with steep, narrow interior stairways that demand precise rail placement. The neighborhoods east of Hanover Street toward Spring Road include split-levels and mid-century colonials built during the 1950s and 1960s. Along Walnut Street and Penn Street at the Historic District's edges, three-story Victorian-era homes with ornate banisters and landing turns are among the most complex installs we handle in Cumberland County.

Federal-era rowhome on Hanover Street — slim-profile rail on original heart pine treads

Hanover Street, PA Installed March 2026

A Federal-era rowhome on Hanover Street in the Carlisle Historic District with 13 original heart pine treads only 30 inches wide. Mrs. Hoffman had been sleeping in the first-floor parlor for two weeks after a fall on the landing. We laser-measured the run, confirmed the slim-profile rail would leave 19 inches of clear passage without touching the original walnut banister, and installed the same week. The brown-upholstered seat folds flat against the wall at the bottom. Mrs. Hoffman slept in her own second-floor bedroom that night.

Victorian three-story on Walnut Street — curved rail through a 180-degree landing turn

Walnut Street, PA Installed February 2026

A three-story Victorian on Walnut Street at the edge of the Historic District with eight steps from the front hall to a 180-degree landing, then nine more steps to the second floor, and another flight to the third. The Pattersons have owned this home since the 1970s. We digitally scanned the first two flights on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries Mr. Patterson from the front hall to the second-floor hallway without stopping, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps onto the landing instead of balancing on the top tread.

Ritner Highway ranch — straight rail on carpeted basement stairs

Ritner Highway, PA Installed January 2026

A 1960s ranch along the Ritner Highway corridor with carpeted basement stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase leading down to a finished basement family room. Mr. Sullivan uses the basement daily for his woodworking shop. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. Folded, the seat and rail take up 11 inches, leaving 25 inches of clear passage for Mrs. Sullivan. The battery backup kept the lift running through 36 hours without power during the January ice storm.

College Street home — outdoor lift on icy concrete front steps near Dickinson campus

College Street, PA Installed December 2025

A two-story home on College Street near the Dickinson College campus with five poured-concrete front steps that ice over every winter. Mrs. Torres had not used her own front door since September — her son had been driving her around to the ground-level side entrance. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom step, ready when she comes home. Every component is corrosion-protected against road salt spray, rated for sub-zero Cumberland Valley temperatures, and sealed against the rain and snow that hit Carlisle from October through April.

Spring Road colonial — straight rail on wide oak treads, same-week install

Spring Road, PA Installed November 2025

A mid-century colonial on Spring Road east of Hanover Street with wide oak treads and a standard 36-inch staircase. Colonel Fischer (retired, Army War College) called on Wednesday after his second knee replacement at UPMC Carlisle, we measured Thursday morning, and the install crew arrived Friday afternoon. The rail mounts flush against the wall on the right side, leaving the left banister fully open. The swivel seat at the top lets him step off onto the hardwood landing facing the upstairs hallway. He was riding it by Friday evening.

Platform Lift

East Street home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with keyed lockout

East Street, PA Installed October 2025

A two-story home on East Street where Mr. Baker uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal cord injury during his Army service at Fort Bragg. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered $6,800 and the Community HealthChoices Waiver covered the remaining balance through his managed care coordinator at AmeriHealth Caritas. Mr. Baker rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Carlisle Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Carlisle, PA?

Straight rails in Carlisle homes — the ranches along Ritner Highway, the Cape Cods south of town, the split-levels east of Hanover Street — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for the Victorian three-stories on Walnut Street or the Federal rowhomes in the Historic District with landing turns run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase's exact geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and concrete stoops run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Carlisle prices different from Harrisburg or Mechanicsburg?

Equipment prices are identical across Cumberland County and the Harrisburg metro — we do not adjust based on city size or distance from I-81. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: steep pre-war treads in the Historic District, narrow stairwells in three-story Victorian rowhomes, or ornate banisters that require custom bracket offsets. Those are site-specific adjustments, not geographic surcharges. We list every line item on the written quote so you see exactly what you are paying for.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home?

Relocation costs in Cumberland County — real estate commission, closing costs, moving crew, new deposits — run $12,000 to $25,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you have lived in for decades, in the borough you know, close to your doctors at UPMC Carlisle and your daily routine. For most Carlisle families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing for Carlisle homeowners?

Yes. We offer 12-month interest-free financing and extended terms up to 60 months starting at $79 per month for a standard straight install. Approval takes minutes during the in-home visit. We also help you stack financing with VA HISA, the PA Community HealthChoices Waiver, or the PATF low-interest loan program so you pay the lowest possible out-of-pocket amount.

A word from Luis

Carlisle families usually call after a fall or a close call on the stairs — a retired officer from the Barracks whose knees gave out in a colonial on High Street, a grandmother on Walnut Street who slipped on the hardwood landing last winter, a daughter in Harrisburg worried about her parents in a Federal-era rowhome on Hanover Street they have lived in for forty years.

I drive out, measure the staircase, and hand you a written quote good for 30 days. No pressure, no upsells. We install most straight rails the same week.
