Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The workhorse of Canton's steel-era bungalows, Cape Cods, and postwar ranches. Over 75% of the stairlifts we install in Stark County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next winter power outage. Most Canton installs wrap in under four hours. Every bracket ships hot-dip galvanized for Ohio's freeze-thaw cycling.

Stairlift Service Across Stark County

Stark County, OH

Ridgewood's 1920s colonials and Tudors have formal walnut banisters requiring curved rails that thread past original newel posts. Stadium Park's 1930s–1940s brick bungalows and Cape Cods are our highest-volume straight-rail territory — steep, narrow, original oak treads. Shorb's worker houses have the steepest basement stairs in Stark County, often requiring low-profile seats for tight headroom clearance. Market Heights Cape Cods need second-floor bedroom access with swivel-exit seats at tight top landings. Jackson Township 1990s–2000s subdivisions install fastest — builder-grade stairs, standard dimensions, consistent framing. North Canton split-levels often need curved rails to handle three-flight layouts. Plain Township mixes older ranches with newer developments, covering the full range of configurations.

Straight

1938 Stadium Park bungalow — straight rail on original oak treads, three-hour install

Stadium Park, OH Installed March 2026

A 1938 brick bungalow in Stadium Park with steep narrow stairs and original dark oak treads — built for steelworkers who didn't mind the climb. Mrs. Petroski's daughter called from Columbus after her mother fell carrying laundry down the basement stairs. We bolted a straight rail directly to the oak treads on the right side, the beige seat folding flat against the wall at the bottom landing. Installed Monday to Thursday — Mrs. Petroski rode it the same afternoon. The warm hardwood and the compact seat blend into the original character of the house.

1926 Ridgewood colonial — curved rail past original walnut newel post with 90-degree upper landing

Ridgewood, OH Installed January 2026

A 1926 colonial in Ridgewood with a formal walnut banister, framed art on the stairway wall, and a chandelier above the upper landing. The Stantons' father needed second-floor access after a stroke. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that bends 90 degrees around the half-wall at the upper landing, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor where he steps off directly onto the hallway. The modern upscale interior — polished wood, decorative balustrade — required a rail finish that looked intentional, not medical.

Shorb worker house — compact straight rail beside stone-tread stairs

Shorb, OH Installed December 2025

A 1930s worker house in Shorb with narrow stone-tread stairs leading from the entry to the main living level. A wooden sideboard sits at the base of the stairs next to a potted plant — the tight cottage-style layout meant every inch mattered. We mounted the brown-upholstered seat on a compact straight rail that tucks against the wall, clearing the sideboard and the hallway traffic pattern. Mr. Hoffman's daily routine runs from the kitchen on the lower level to the bedrooms above, and the compact seat folds flat so the narrow passage stays open for the rest of the family.

Outdoor

Jackson Township front porch — outdoor lift on stone-paved entry steps

Jackson Township, OH Installed November 2025

A 1995 home in Jackson Township with a raised front porch and stone-paved entry steps leading up from the driveway. Mr. Miller is a Gulf War veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Canton VA CBOC, with the prescription coordinated through the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA. We anchored an outdoor-rated cream seat on the stone paving, with weather-resistant hardware rated for Ohio's freeze-thaw cycling. Natural daylight washes the covered porch entry — the sealed motor housing and galvanized brackets have survived two full Ohio winters without a service call.

Market Heights Cape Cod — straight rail on carpeted stairs with swivel-exit landing

Market Heights, OH Installed February 2026

A 1948 Cape Cod in Market Heights with 13 carpeted treads and a landing area at the top. Mrs. Antonelli's biggest worry was stepping off at the upper floor — her neighbor had fallen there. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones on the treads, and the swivel-exit rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing so she steps onto the hallway tile instead of balancing on the top stair. Wall-mounted light switches mark the landing transition. A standard residential install that solved a specific, daily fear.

Platform Lift

North Canton split-level — indoor wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

North Canton, OH Installed October 2025

A 1970s split-level in North Canton where Mr. Novak uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal injury and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the main interior stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with high-visibility yellow safety edges and a white handrail. The orange-toned walls of the split-level stairway frame the platform, and a window provides natural light to the landing. Mr. Novak rolls onto the platform, locks the chair, and rides between the garage-level entry and the main living floor without assistance.

Common Questions

Everything Canton Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Stark County right now?

Straight rails in standard Canton homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails (required for mid-landing turns and multi-flight layouts) run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured. Outdoor models for raised porches and basement walk-outs run $4,000 to $7,500. All quotes include installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and first service visit.

Are prices in Canton lower than Cleveland or Columbus?

Equipment prices are consistent across Ohio. Canton's advantage stems from housing stock composition — most are standard straight runs in 1930s–1950s bungalows and Cape Cods, the most efficient, lowest-labor installs available. Canton has notably low average installation costs among Ohio service areas due to consistent housing patterns. All pricing is presented with line-item transparency.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering?

For straight staircases (covering most Canton homes), certified refurbished units save 30–40% off new installations. Factory-reconditioned straight rails feature new upholstery, new batteries, and 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished options rarely exist. Canton's value-band housing makes refurbished options especially popular.

Any hidden fees for homes in older Canton neighborhoods?

Quoted price covers: rail, seat, installation labor, freeze-thaw-rated hardware, battery backup, and first service visit. Only potential add-on in older neighborhoods (Stadium Park, Shorb, Ridgewood) is dedicated electrical circuit for pre-1940 homes with insufficient capacity, adding $200–$400 and handled by Ohio-licensed electrician.

A word from Luis

Most Canton families call me after a fall has already happened — a slip on steep basement stairs in a Ridgewood bungalow, a parent who hasn't been upstairs in months in a Shorb worker house, a daughter in Cleveland worried about her father in a Market Heights home he's owned for 45 years.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
