Bestseller

The workhorse of Akron's rubber-era bungalows, postwar Cape Cods, and raised ranches. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Summit County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next winter power outage. Most Akron installs wrap in under four hours. Every bracket ships hot-dip galvanized for Ohio's freeze-thaw cycling.

Stairlift Service Across Summit County

Summit County, OH

From the rubber-era bungalows of Firestone Park and Goodyear Heights — built by Firestone and Goodyear in the 1910s and 1920s for their workers, with narrow lots, steep stairs, and original hardwood throughout — to the grand colonials and Tudors of West Hill and Merriman Hills, where we regularly thread curved rails past original walnut banisters and decorative millwork, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in this city. We know which Highland Square Craftsman homes have the tight doorway at the top of the stairs that requires a folding-rail option, which Kenmore postwar ranches have the split-level landing that makes a straight rail impossible, and which Chapel Hill subdivisions built in the 1960s have the carpeted stairs and swivel-exit configuration that works best for top-landing safety. Ellet on the east side has the mix of 1940s Cape Cods and 1970s raised ranches that account for nearly a quarter of our Summit County installs.

1924 Firestone Park bungalow — straight rail color-matched to original oak treads

Firestone Park, OH Installed March 2026

A 1924 rubber-era bungalow in Firestone Park with original oak treads and a narrow stairway typical of the worker housing Firestone built a century ago. Mrs. Patterson's daughter called from Cincinnati after her mother fell on the third step. We measured on Monday, installed Thursday. The classic hardwood-finish rail was color-selected on-site to match the original oak grain — bolted into the treads without touching the banister — and the folding seat leaves 26 inches of stair width for grandchildren to pass.

1958 Kenmore split-level — curved rail through 90° landing, single ride to the bedroom floor

Kenmore, OH Installed January 2026

A 1958 split-level in Kenmore with the classic postwar layout — six steps from the entry to the main floor, a 90° landing turn, then eight more steps to the bedrooms. We laser-scanned the full staircase, fabricated a curved rail that carries Mr. Novak from the front door to the upper hallway in one continuous ride through the turn, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps onto the hallway floor instead of the top tread. The seat parks neatly at the upper landing beside the framed family photos on the wall.

Highland Square Craftsman — straight rail beside the hall sideboard on stone-tile treads

Highland Square, OH Installed December 2025

A 1920s Craftsman cottage in Highland Square with stone-tile stair treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs that Mrs. Marsh refused to move. The compact stairway is typical of the smaller Craftsman bungalows in this neighborhood — narrow footprint, traditional finishes, furniture close to the landing. We mounted the straight rail on the right side of the treads, positioned the seat so it parks at the bottom beside the sideboard with the potted fern still in place, and the folding footrest clears the hallway traffic path completely.

Chapel Hill raised porch — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone paving, VA-funded

Chapel Hill, OH Installed October 2025

A 1950s ranch in Chapel Hill with a raised front porch and seven exterior stone-paved steps from the driveway to the covered entry. Mr. Franklin is a Korean War-era veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA at Wade Park. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat mounts on a galvanized rail anchored directly into the stone paving, with IP55-sealed motor housing and neoprene isolation washers at every mount to prevent moisture-expansion cracking over Ohio's freeze-thaw cycles. Natural daylight floods the porch entry, and the carpeted outdoor tread at the bottom provides grip in wet conditions.

Ellet raised ranch — straight rail on carpeted stairs with seat matching the carpet tones

Ellet, OH Installed December 2025

A 1970s raised ranch in Ellet with deep-pile carpet over the stair treads and a tiled landing at the bottom — the standard layout in hundreds of Ellet ranches from that era. Mr. Holloway needed the lift installed before his scheduled knee replacement at Summa Health. We used extended lag bolts to penetrate through the carpet and padding into the structural subfloor below, torque-tested every anchor, and specified the brown-upholstery seat that blends with the carpet tones. The seat parks at the landing beside the wall-mounted light switches, and the folding footrest keeps the carpeted stairway clear for the rest of the family.

Platform Lift

Goodyear Heights Cape Cod — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a veteran who uses a power chair

Goodyear Heights, OH Installed November 2025

A 1940s Cape Cod in Goodyear Heights with a five-step interior rise between the garage entry and the main living level. Mr. Yoder is a veteran who uses a power wheelchair and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform surface, bright yellow high-visibility pressure-sensitive safety edges on all sides, and a white handrail for added security. The platform carries the wheelchair and occupant from the lower level to the main floor in one smooth ride. Mr. Yoder filed a HISA grant through the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA — the $6,800 service-connected grant covered the majority of the installation cost.

Common Questions

Everything Akron Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Summit County right now?

Straight rails in standard Akron homes — the Firestone Park bungalows, the Goodyear Heights colonials, the Ellet Cape Cods — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for West Hill Tudors with mid-landing turns, Kenmore split-level ranches, and any staircase with a 90° change, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches and basement walk-outs run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Akron than Cleveland or Columbus?

Equipment prices are the same across Ohio — we don't inflate quotes for Merriman Hills or West Hill addresses. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: preserving original banisters in Highland Square Craftsman homes, compensating rail mounts for century-old tread wear, and the occasional electrical upgrade in a pre-1940 bungalow that still runs a 60-amp panel. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise surcharges.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40% off a new install — we carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never an option because the rail is custom-manufactured to a specific staircase. If your Summit County home has a standard straight run, ask us about refurbished inventory during the assessment. We'll tell you honestly whether the cost savings justify it for your situation.

Any hidden fees for homes in older Akron neighborhoods?

Our quote covers everything: the rail, the seat, installation labor, battery backup, and the first service visit. The only add-on we occasionally see in older Akron neighborhoods — Firestone Park, Goodyear Heights, Highland Square — is a dedicated electrical circuit when the existing outlet near the base of the stairs can't handle the load. If that's the case, we tell you during the assessment, not after we've started drilling. A new circuit adds $200-$400 and is handled by our licensed electrician.

A word from Luis

Most Akron families call me after something has already happened — a slip on the steep basement stairs in a Firestone Park bungalow, a parent who hasn't slept upstairs in three months after a knee replacement, a daughter in Columbus worried about her father in a West Hill colonial he's lived in for 40 years. My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
